Dairy Queen (Treat) Ice Cream Shop • $
407 US-206, Branchville

“We were a party of 10, including 4 young kids, so placing the order was a bit chaotic. However the 2 female employees were extremely patient and fulfilled the order in a timely manner. Lucky for us we were the only people on line when we arrived. I had the Reese's blizzard which was great but having tasted my son's peanut butter pie blizzard I would definitely get that next time.“

“I found this spot on Google, and I was trying to find a homemade ice-cream spot . It was a bit of a drive. Thank goodness it was still daylight outside . The GPS said you have arrived, but of course, I passed it. It's on a blind eye turn, so I had to circle back, and I would never have imagined it being an ice cream spot. There is also very limited parking there's either parking on the side or you can park in the grass or you can park directly in front in the ice cream spot. I was not expecting the ice cream spot to be on wheels and especially a self-service. I thought that was really interesting. The prices we very reasonable it was either 3.50for vanilla or chocolate or 4.50 I think for pumpkin or maple. The pumpkin and maple were both homemade flavors. I thought they were both really good. I kinda of wish they had hard ice cream, and they sold it in a container so you can take it home with you. I can't wait to come visit this place again.“

Green Valley Farms Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt • $
997 NJ-23, Sussex - 9.97 miles

“Visited today for their BBQ. The brisket ($8) was delicious. My husband had a burger ($7) and said it was good. The views are incredible. After we ate, we paid $5 for a sheers deposit and picked some sunflowers and zinnias. We then bought a few veggies and fruits from the roadside stand. The deposit was taken off the total. I'm sad we didn't get any ice cream, but we are definitely going to come back for the rodeo next year so we will have to try it then!“

“I went to Hayek's to get an Italian Sub yesterday... so the price went up (now $13.99) the size is smaller, and the bread is different. Ice Cream Cake

“We wanted a cake with our cats photo on it. After about an hour waiting, it was determined it wasn't going to be possible. Chris, the young man helping us, kept checking with us during our wait. He showed us a gel icing likeness of our cat he did. After about an hour, we decided to go with the icing likeness, rather than the photo. It came out fantastic! Chris refused to charge us and just kept apologizing. We told We understood and didn't feel he needed to apologize. No matter how much we insisted, he would not take our money. That right there, is excellent customer service. We have always gone to DQ in Newton to get our ice cream cakes. After today, trust me, we will ALWAYS go to DQ in Newton! Thanks Chris! Fuzzy loved his cake!“

Alpine Creamery Ice Cream Shop • $
14 White Deer Plaza, Sparta - 9.82 miles

“They make all their ice cream on-site, what's not to love? Went there yesterday with my son, we each got a two-scoop. Prices are decent, if a bit higher than Stewart's ($4 for a single, $5 for a double, $6 for a triple), but you're getting boutique-batch stuff, not factory/mass-made stuff, so that seems reasonable. My son and I both got the Cake Batter (pretty excellent, though I would have left out the sprinkles they mix in); his second scoop was something called Milk N' Cookies (a kinda take on Cookies and Cream - it wasn't bad, but I personally prefer my CaC to have a very rich vanilla substrate, and this vanilla was very light, almost milk-flavored, which actually, I suppose, might have been the point, but my kid liked it fine). My second scoop was their Cheesecake & Graham Cracker which was MAGNIFICENT - decadent, rich, luscious, and very cheesecake-y. That all gets them 4* out of 5.Bonus 5th star to Alpine for good allergen control procedures, rare in a small ice-cream shop where nuts are commonplace (my son has severe nut allergies) and for the proprietor/ice-cream chef being a pretty laid back and down to earth dude and coming out and talking to us about their process before we ordered so we could be secure with the allergy issues.WATCH OUT - they are cash only, and the quaint little hamlet of Sparta has a dearth of nearby ATM machines - a couple of nearby cafes have machines in their lobby, with fees of course.“
