An Utter Disappointment and Disrespect to Patrons - Never Again! My evening at South House in Jersey City transitioned from eager anticipation to sheer disbelief and frustration, marking an experience so dismal it demands public sharing. As a traveler who values reliable service and honest communication, the treatment I received at this establishment was nothing short of appalling.I specifically called ahead, ensuring my visit was timed perfectly to enjoy a late meal, being informed the kitchen welcomed orders until 11 PM. Imagine the shock, arriving at 10:45 PM, to be bluntly told the kitchen had prematurely ceased operations for the night. This blatant disregard for customer service and failure to honor their word is unacceptable. This isn't merely about missing out on a meal; it's a reflection of a deeply ingrained unprofessionalism and a lackadaisical attitude towards patrons. To travel, especially, and to plan around a business's commitments, only to be met with such unreliability is infuriating.South House's inability to provide consistent information or to cater to a guest who had taken every precaution to align with their guidelines is not only disappointing; it's disrespectful. It showcases a profound failure in basic hospitality principles. To the management and staff of South House, consider this a lost opportunity to impress and retain a customer who values dining experiences and the integrity of a business's word. The inconsistency and lack of professionalism displayed are inexcusable, and it's clear that my patronage, let alone any recommendation, is entirely unwarranted. To fellow diners and travelers seeking a reliable and respectful dining experience in Jersey City, let this serve as a cautionary tale. There are establishments that will value your time and patronage - South House, regrettably, is not one of them.

Went last week with my friends as we heard great things about the nightlife here. We went up to the bar to order a 2nd round of drinks, bartender straight up refused. We said "may we have 3 LITs please?" And he straight up said "No" and turned around. Just wondering if this is common practice here? Of course we left right after and went somewhere with friendlier staff.

Cool spot! Just not 5 star

The food was good, service good; just not 5 star worthy. 20% Tip is included when you get the check so be mindful of that. When my friends and I split the meal with our cards, we were each charged with the 20% tip included. I wish I would have known that prior to us splitting the check.

The ambiance of this restaurant is absolutely beautiful. My husband and I were so excited to try it out. They were even able to accommodate our large stroller which was a plus. However, once we were seated, 20 minutes went by and no one came to take our order. Someone just came and placed water on our table and did not even say “be right back to take your order” or nothing. My husband even stood up to find someone to let them know we were ready to order. The guy responded back saying “someone will be right with you”. However, he didn’t even call anyone to come and take our order. We decided to wait another 10 minutes in hopes someone will come, but no one did. We walked out of the restaurant hungry and disappointed.

Great place for dinner. Everything was on par, however, as someone from the South, I would add a wee more spice for the spicy fried chicken. Will definitely come back again

We went for Sunday brunch and had an amazing meal. The Wildfire Burger and Texas Toast Burger were both some of the best we've had, and the fries were cooked perfectly. The mimosas were strong and tasty and very reasonably priced. Service was attentive and friendly, and I would have given it 5 stars had it not been for the speed of the kitchen. The restaurant was hosting a private event, and the kitchen seemed to neglect the fact that other diners were also present, so it took almost an hour to get our food. Luckily we were not in a rush, but overall this was something that should have been planned in advance and not used as an excuse for a very slow kitchen.

Good atmosphere & big place... But be careful - reason for this poor review is to warn you to always check your receipts from the bartenders in the moment. They added extra drinks to my tab, multiple times. 1st time, a genuine mistake & I gave benefit of the doubt - the 2nd time, getting charged 6 drinks instead 4, isn't a coincidence. And then when I checked my CC statement and it was another $20 over that, added by the bartender when they closed it out (bc I gave a cash tip) Sketchy bartenders trying to take advantage of people. Safe to just avoid and go to the 10 other bars in the area. Avoid

This was a place I used to come to when I lived in Jersey City. Being that we were in the area, I wanted to try it again. We came here with the family for an early dinner. They don't have a physical kids menu but were very accommodating about the kids' preferences. We got a burger bun with cheese and lettuce, and it was a hit. It came with a side order of fries. We also got the macaroni and cheese, which was nice and cheesy and even had a few spices the kids didn't complain about. I got the smoked BBQ chicken sandwich. I thought it was going to be a patty, but it came out as pulled chicken. I felt that the pieces were too big for my liking. It also didn't have enough of a barbecue sauce, leaving it dry. We also ordered the tailgate fried chicken. It was good but was overpowered by uneven bites of blue cheese. The sides of sweet potato fries and onion rings were great. The waitor could have been a little more attentive but was overall patient with the kids. The brick facade and neat gas lit candles were pretty cool. They even have a party room downstairs. The drinks in the past were always delicious but I didn't get any at this visit.

The restaurant had the old rustic look, which I liked. We were seated as soon as we entered the restaurant. The food we ordered was good and I liked the chicken bacon sandwich the most. Wait time was 15 - 20min, which was okay.
