This place is an upgraded Taco Bell. This is not authentic Mexican food. My fiancé and I had a terrible dinner. If you like real Mexican food stay away. You will disappointed...

Good guac.

Soft shell chicken “tacos” if you even want to call them that were pathetic. It was dried up grilled chicken by itself thrown on a soft taco shell. Not even sure how it can be called a taco.

Tried this place for lunch since it is so close by. Ordered a Shredded beef chimichanga and steak tacos. Portions are smaller than most other Mexican restaraunts nearby. The meat in the steak tacos was tough and unseasoned. Chimichangas were ok but not flavorful either. Seems like cuts of beef are not the best and makes the dishes subpar. Chips and salsa were tasty and guacamole was ok, too much lemon.

This was the worst Mexican food I have ever had. Guacamole looked and tasted like it was made on Monday. The enchiladas with mole was cold. The tacos el pastor were gross and tasted old. The rice and beans had no flavor. The chips that came with the guacamole tasted like old fried oil. 3 appetizers, 2 meals and 1 kids meal was $80 with a coupon. Save your money and go to Chipotle!

The three star rating is a gift. The wife and I ordered enchiladas verdes and chimichangas with pork, the lunch portion. The chimichangas were a bit on the bland side, but the enchiladas were tasty. The portions were small though, for a lunch special priced at $11. I don't usually eat huge meals, but it wasn't enough to fill me up. I'll probably give Mariachi another chance with a coupon for dinner since it's close to home, but I don't have the expectation that it will be any better.

After reading the mixed reviews here I decided to try it tonight. I should have listened, this place is horrible. Service is non-existent and the food is terrible. We ordered the ceviche with crab and shrimp, there was no crab, when asked we were told it was small shredded pieces. No water available except for bottled so asked for that and a lemon. Got the water and limes after being given a sprite instead of the water. Ordered the mariachi fajitas and no seasoning, shrimp still had the tails on them, the steak was overcooked and the beans tasted like watered down canned beans. The chicken looked frozen. Go somewhere else with service and better food.

Very pleased to learn Mariachi has a location here in Matawan! Same delicious taste as Metuchen. Quick, friendly & efficient service given by Lily. In and out for lunch in under 45 minutes with nothing left to be desired. Well done! We will be back again!

Since they opened, I’ve eaten there twice and attempted to order takeout from them twice. Each time was a very bad experience. The first time was soon after they opened. It took so long to get the attention of a waitress to get a soda (after asking several times), I walked to a nearby store and bought a can and returned to the restaurant before my food was delivered. The service was awful and a miss on every item. The next time, was with a different group of people and several years later, but the service was nearly as bad and I had to send back a dish because it was not what I ordered. The food was good, but the service was the worst! So, thinking that we could avoid the service issue, a couple of months ago, I attempted to order by phone, but even though they had 2 phone numbers, nobody answered the phone and there was no message. It just kept ringing and ringing. So, today, we tried again it took three calls to straighten out our order. We finally cancelled. Bottom line: Worst service, food okay, but not worth the bad service.

My family and I just had the most delicious meal at Mariachi Mexican in matawan. The staff was super friendly and very accomadating to our dietary needs. The food was outstanding!

Mariachi’s was recommended to me when another (vastly overhyped) restaurant had an hour and a half wait. I took a chance with out of town guests and a rather large party. The food, service, and attention is amazing. Everyone was served large portions of delicious food and the staff was very attentive to our needs, despite how many people we had. Since then, Mariachi’s (Metuchen) has been our go-to for dinners out. My son loves the chimichangas, my wife loves the chicken and steak fajitas, and I love the enchiladas verde. You can’t go wrong; the table side prepared guacamole is made according to your preferences and is phenomenal!

Extremely disappointed in this new restaurant. We were all looking forward to trying this place because the decor is cute, however, the service was not up to par. When we sat down we did not have utensils or small plates and when the waitress came over originally we weren’t offered any beverages besides water. The food was decent, but a little pricey. We asked different members of the staff multiple times for water refills and were consistently ignored. It’s BYOB but clearly it should also be BYOW (bring your own water). Another thing to note, there’s a service charge for credit cards that was not communicated until the bill came which is unprofessional. If you’re interested in trying it, maybe get take out if they offer it.
