The food is okay, but not really what I would call soul food. Chicken was lightly seasoned and fried well. Macaroni and cheese tasted off. I'm not sure what kind of cheese they used to make it. Fries weren't as crispy as I would like them. Candied yams weren't seasoned at all, they didn't taste as sweet as they should have. It seemed pretty clean, and there was someone cleaning the bathroom I tried using it. Over all I'm glad I tried it but we won't be going back.

I've been itching for some good soul food lately and had this place bookmarked. Today I finally made it. This is the only soul food spot near me. Here we go !!! Lol I entered the establishment and two looked at me like I was an alien. I asked if they were open and they responded yes. Now I feel a little awkward and it is too late to turn back. Lol So their was no greetings or anything and I am the only person inside. Since no one said anything to me I just picked up a menu to see what to order. Upon looking at the menu I look at the woman behind the counter and the gentleman next to her and said they look Spanish. Now I am making sure I am inside of a soul food restaurant but I think maybe they are just light skinned lol. Then they speak to each other in Spanish (Insert Palm to The Face Emoji Here). I asked the woman if I could get the 3 piece chicken order BBQ because the menu specified they can do wings in BBQ. She said sure no problem and that made me happy lol. She tells me it will be about 15 minutes and that's cool with me because I know it will be freshly made which is usually a plus as far as food quality. The personality starts to open up and turns out she is a very sweet woman. So now I can observe the ambiance which is simple not the cleanest and very small. Their were a couple of people coming in picking up orders I guess from calling ahead. Seems they are pretty popular in area which was cool. So my food is finally ready and my entree comes with two sides so I chose Mac n cheese and collard greens. (2 chicken thighs, 1 drumstick meal $10.00) Pros: 1. The chicken was very good. I would come for that alone. 2. They give very good portions of food for your buck 3. Customer service was very good after the awkward start very sweet lady. 4. Bottled water only .75 cents Cons: 1. The collard greens had no flavor and tasted below average. Also they were not trimmed so you are eating large flavorless leaves. 2. The Mac N Cheese was okay not the best. It was not freshly made which may have been the reason for the fall off in taste. 3. Very somewhat limited menu to be called a Soul food spot. No cornbread, oxtails, okra, mashed potatoes and most importantly RICE !!! Overall nice people and the chicken was on point. I would come back because she opened up and would like to try the catfish and tilapia.

This place is a hidden gem. My girlfriend divulged to me that she had never tried chicken and waffles before so a quick search on yelp yielded this spot. It's a small shop. Two small tables with two seats each and a counter with four seats. When we got there, a few regulars were sitting at the counter chit chatting with a gentleman behind the register. The environment seems loose and casual. Johanna or, Big Mama, as they call her was in and out of the kitchen preparing a few dishes. The place was clean. Obviously, my girlfriend ordered the chicken and waffles and I did the same. It included two pieces of chicken and Johanna gave us the option to pick the pieces. We opted for a breast and a wing, each. We also ordered a small order of mac and cheese. Not that I would have ordered a second side but I was surprised that mashed potatoes was not on the menu. Everything was made to order so we waited about 15 minutes. I watched as Johanna made each of the waffles, so definitely not frozen. When she brought out the mac and cheese I was surprised by the size; definitely a bigger order than I expected. The chicken was great! It was seasoned perfectly and nice and crispy. The waffle was well made and complimented the chicken very well. The mac and cheese was tasty, lots of cheese and seasoned a little bit; very good. So two orders of chicken and waffles, a small side of mac and cheese (although it was actually quite a substantial order) and two bottles of water for less than $20. Can't really beat that IMHO. Johanna was cordial through out our meal, making small talk and asking how we were doing. Both my girlfriend and I left quite satisfied and will most likely stop by again when we're in the area. Note: I took notice of a fried fish sandwich that a gentleman had order when we first walked in the door. It's looked very good and I'll most likely order it the next time I'm in the shop.

I thought this place had great service, big portions of great food and you could sit in eat and watch tv. I have a pregnant girlfriend that was craving catfish unfortunately they were all out of catfish so we went with the flounder and she still enjoyed her food. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to eat some great soul food.
