Location is convenient. Food taste is so so, but quantity is very small for the price. Won't return.

Discovered this hidden gem. If you are looking for a unique quality experience with Chinese food this is the an amazing food place. Tried them out two days ago by ordering their Dry Chicken dish. Be careful as it has bones but it was unbelievably delicious, a flavor and texture that was so unique. So the next day we got their liver, fish and a soup. Simply delicious. Could not stop eating. The staff are great but do not speak english and their online menu is also unclear. Its best to get the printed menu. We are so excited to try all their other dishes. Also, it's takeout only.If you are used to regular american-chinese fare then this is not the place for you. If you love to experience exotic flavors then have fun.

Average food, only a few slices of mountain taros in the chicken soup. And price is not cheap. Soup is a bit heavy and oily, mostly chicken inside. I think it may be good for sick people. This place won’t last long as I don’t see many returning customers.

Solo Pot is one of the small dining establishments located in Asian Food Market in Plainsboro. You can order with a person at the counter, or on their tablet to the side. It's convenient to place an order here, then go into the supermarket to buy groceries as the food is being prepared, and then come back out to pick it up. There is a common area right across of the counter (inside the building but before entering the supermarket itself), where you can sit down and eat as well. Their menu has items cooked in both dry and soup pot style. We tried one of each--a dry fried chili pot with 3 veggies and 3 proteins (though they were flexible in adjusting for less proteins/meats and more veggie options) that came with white rice, and a large size of their chicken soup with fish maw which came with noodles. Both dishes were delicious! The dry pot was the standard mala type of spicy, and the mild level was already slightly spicy and enough for my family. We also loved the taste of the soup. Will definitely come back next time we visit the supermarket.

intestines are a bit heavy-flavored, otherwise all good

Hot pot is an essential part of Chinese food. While Solo Pot may not be the exact same, it provides an unique taste on an ageless classic. I came here with one of my friends one fateful afternoon AFTER (not before) he experienced mild stomach discomfort. Having heard that this restaurant was very tasty from one of my friends, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to go try a new spot while helping to heal my friend's ailing stomach. When we went to order, we experienced the first (and probably only) significant problem with the establishment---the wait times. Though built into the side of the supermarket may make it seem that this is a place with rapid service, this sadly is not the case. The high demand experienced from slew of takeout services made the wait time almost 20-30 minutes for my friend and I. However, because of the convenient location, I do not believe this long wait time is a significant issue, as it is simple to proceed with purchasing goods within the supermarket in order to pass the time. When we received our food, we were happy to see the plentiful portion sizes with a plethora of complementary vegetables and "mu er" within the soup. The taste was very pure, and from our analyses, we conclude that there was likely no MSG used, and most of the umami flavor originated from the chicken used to brew the broth itself. The noodles were well cooked and served in a good quantity as to complement the soup perfectly. This is the perfect experience for anyone looking for a quick hearty, healthy, and humbling meal that has hints of a hot-pot experience mixed with fresh ingredients and smaller portions. By the end of the dining experience, my friend experienced significant improvements to his stomach condition. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for lunch but also shopping at Asian Food Market at the same time. Simply order, shop for a while, and then come out to pick up your meal. I will likely be returning soon. 4.7/5

I first heard about Solo Pot because they supported Princeton Middle School, so I went there last Friday to pick up food and give it a try. I got the Dry Fried Chili Pot (malaxiangguo), Medium Spicy, with beef, shrimp, bamboo shoots, lotus root slices, and Chinese cabbage (white rice included). I like Sichuan food in general and the taste was very authentic, including plenty of dried chili peppers, Sichuan peppercorns, and pixian broad bean paste. The portion size was also quite large, more than enough for one meal. I'm glad that this place opened and I can get this type of Sichuan food closer than Edison without making it myself; it will certainly be worth a repeat visit. Thank you, Solo Pot, for the delicious dinner and for your support!

Solo Pot has very authentic Chinese food., which is what us Chinese people miss the most being in America. For me, I have always been searching for authentic Chinese food restaurants, and Solo Pot has been one of my favorites. If I wanted something spicy, it’s dry pot and spicy mix series fulfills my desire. If I wanted something healthier, it’s golden chicken soup with fish maw, which is also one of their best sellers, meets my requirement. Not to mention that the restaurant’s delicious snacks is just as tasty as it’s main course meals. I go back to Princeton ever so often, but every time I am back, I eat Solo Pot.

I really like the dry pot. It is very delicious. The lamb is also very very tasty. The rice cake tastes exactly like the rice cake served in China, which is a big surprise to me when I first tried it.

Went there on the second day after opening and it tasted great! Great value for money! The only regret is that the wait time for food is relatively long. There is nothing I can do about it. The business is so good. It is recommended to avoid going during peak hours.
