We did have one miss: the ribs were too fatty for our taste. But here's where Lingo service stepped in. Without any fuss, they took the dish off the bill and were so gracious about it. That kind of hospitality is rare and says a lot about how they run their restaurant.

Everything else was delicious and the vibe was just right for a celebratory dinner. I'll absolutely be back.”

“For us, the food was hit or miss. Right from the start, the Sardine toast was the star of the night, then there was aRazor clam special, which was 50/50... the clams were great, but we didn't prefer the melon taste to the dressing. After that, we had the mortadella and sourdough. Both were very good. Ate that we had the snap pea salad and the mitake mushrooms with garlic fudge. Again, both were excellent. It was the mains that just fell apart for us. The bucatini had slices of squash on top that were dry, and a bit too much basil, which overpowered the dish. Other than the basil, it was lacking in flavor. The other main was the hake and risotto. While the risotto was heavily citrussed, almost too much so, it was still tasty, but the fish, again, lacked flavor/ seasoning/ salt. Overall, the meal was a 3.5, but we bumped it to a 4, because worth the omission of the mains, it could have been a 4.5-5.”

“Fantastic speakeasy sushi joint. Very small, no more than an handful of people may join the omasake style bar where 3 talented (and cool) chefs serve you the best crafted sushi you can get. Definitely going back soon.”

“Stopped by on a lazy Sunday afternoon and ended up enjoying one of the most comforting meals I’ve had in a while. The tortilla soup completely stole the show — rich, flavorful, perfectly thick, and packed with crispy blue corn tortilla pieces in every bite. Honestly wished they had a bigger bowl because it disappeared fast.

Tried the bean & epazote tetelas on the side and they paired so well with the soup. Also shared the black bean avocado tlayudita and chilaquiles — both fresh, satisfying, and full of flavor. The chilaquiles do get a bit pricey once you add the extras, but the taste made it worth it for us.

Came around 2 PM on a Sunday and still found outdoor seating easily, which made the whole experience feel relaxed and unhurried. Great food, warm atmosphere, and one of those places you leave already thinking about coming back to.”

“Great take on Lu rou fan (minced pork and rice), excellent scallion pancakes and awesome dessert (Tian miantuan) that was like a sandwich of sweet fried dough, golden sesame ice cream and condensed milk (plus cilantro and butter dried peanuts)! Great beverages as well such as the slightly sweetened Jasmine iced tea and Sanzo (lychee & calamansi) sparkling water products!”

Some dishes did fall a bit flat (specifically a fish dish that needed a bit more acid to balance it out & desert was a bit underwhelming), but the standouts really stood out to make this a meal worth coming back to. A personal favorite was the Dashi presentation in a wine glass & incredible wagyu beef. Excited to try their next menu!”

“5 stars are not enough to tell you how good this place is. We've been staying in the Franklin Guesthouse (hotel adjacent to Madre) for a couple of nights and decided to give Madre a shot - boy were we in for a treat! Firstly, shout out to Armando, who made us feel immediately welcomed with his warmth and energy! For food, we got the Frutti di Mare, Croquetas, Brussels Sprouts, Cornbread Madeleines (compliments from chef) and Chicken - massive MASSIVE props to Chef Bryan and his very talented team. To say that they cooked "well" would be the understatement of 2022. They absolutely blew our minds with top quality medley of ingredients, depth of flavor, and masterful execution in every way. Cocktails were fun and delectable, which added the perfect "pop" to the culinary rocket ship that Madre served up. Just when my wife and I were ready to call it a night, Chef Bryan and Armando were kind enough to bring out the Pot de Creme for us, which was the bow and ribbon on this very special dinner. My only regret of the night was not having enough stomachs to enjoy more of what Madre could serve up. We will definitely be back! Thank you, Madre!”

“I traveled all the way from Upper West Side because a friend suggested it, and it was absolutely worth it!!! I loved the atmosphere, the restaurant, the wine list, and the food! I highly recommend trying the fagioli all’uccelletto, and don’t miss their pastas, we had a phenomenal cacio e pepe, and the cotoletta alla bolognese was truly amazing. Food is so authentic and spontaneous!!! We shared a bottle of their Poderi Melini Chianti Classico, which was perfect with our food and was recommended to us by Jacopo, in his typical Tuscanian accent. I’ll definitely be back! Ridgewood has a great Italian spot. What a discovery!”

We all had the tasting menu and there was NOT ONE MISS on any of the dishes. 9 courses, two desserts to share and a little extra amuse of delicious gazpacho to start. “The space is configured like a film set: you are in some backwater honkytonk in a remote outpost in Thailand in the 70’s. Psychedelic Thai music along with some disco blares loudly beneath the flickering lights, corrugated metal awnings, advertisements for beer, Fanta, god-knows-what hair care products — it actually looks like a sort of Thai bodega. Leaning forward from your antique movie theatre seat and peering into the downstairs you see large glass jars illuminated with red light. Some Mephistophelian herbal concoctions. On a large screen plays some grainy indifferent Bruce Lee knockoff from the 70’s. You get the picture….”
