Okonomi holds such a special spot in my heart. Serving authentic Japanese breakfast sets in a cozy, quaint setting, the food is even more comforting. The service was great, as was the food. The fish was cooked perfectly and the side vegetables/miso soup was delicious. I just love everything about Okonomi and can't wait to go back!

Yuji ramen was on my list to go for a while and I was happy to get a chance to go with my parents and husband for my birthday. You have to make a reservation prior to your visit and reservations open 2 weeks in advance. It's a very small restaurant so a reservation makes sense. We went in and were sat down at a table and were given menus and water. We wanted to order the firefly squid because we had it in Japan before and it was good but the server said there was a misprint in the menu and they don't have it today. Bummer, but good thing we had backups. We asked about the Batara zushi and was told that this was also something the restaurant didn't have today because of supply issues. I feel like if they knew they didn't have these items in stock, they could just cross it off the paper menu for that day or explain that from the get go when we sat down to avoid confusion. We ordered the hotate, two orders of sashimi, two tunakotsu ramen, one okonomi shoyu, and one uni miso. The hotate was fine and refreshing. The scallops were good but it felt overly priced for 2 scallops cut in half. It was 4 pieces served in a small bowl and our server told us to use our spoons and get the scallop and radish and the puree and broth and eat it in one bite. We all sat there and stared at the one bowl and my husband and I had to ask for 4 small plates so that we're not dripping broth everywhere. An order of sashimi is 2 pieces of each fish so we ordered 2 orders. The tuna was good and the amberjack had good flavor. The salmon was definitely not the best out of the three fish. I also noticed that the salmon and amberjack did not have the darker part removed from the fish prior to being served. The darker part is typically cut away and thrown out and not served because it contains the blood of the fish. I understand this isn't a sushi or sashimi restaurant, but it just felt odd.The broth of the okonomi shoyu ramen was really good. It had a nice fish flavor and richness. The tunakotsu ramen was also interesting and the broth had the seared tuna flavor, but wasn't strong enough. The broth felt a little diluted or it could have been stronger. It's a tiny bit spicy. Both ramens had seared tuna that was meaty. The tunakotsu visiblly had more noodles than the shoyu and the tunakotsu noodles were a tad overcooked so there was no bounce. The uni miso is brothless but the flavors are really good. The peanut and miso and Japanese peppers are an addictive combination! The only downside is that the noodles were slightly undercooked so each bite was hard and the noodles could have cooked for 30-60 seconds longer. We also had to ask for water a couple times and I felt bad because the server was busy trying to get everyone their food. Perhaps a better way for a larger party would be to give a pitcher or carafe of water to the table.Overall I would not go back but it was definitely interesting to see different proteins be used as a ramen broth base.

Shoyu Ramen was good for those who like the light style of broths. The uni mazemen was super salty though. Server was also not great. Only 3 tables in the restaurant at the time so we knew our order of arrival but the server still came to get our order last. Server also hovered over you while you paid making the tipping selection very awkward. Also the choice of music for the ambiance was truly awful - some loud rock that made it hard to have a conversation and didn’t fit the look and vibe of the space.

Came with high expectations but I’m sad to say this is the blandest ramen I’ve ever tried . Noodles consistency was chewy in a bad way and broth flavorless

Really nice place for an intimate meal. The food is great and the experience is perfect as well. It’s a tiny space that’s nice and quiet.

Food are ok,but the place environment and food not deserve this price. They are overpriced. $40 for a breakfast, we have a lot fancy options.

OKONOMI breakfast was fresh, light, and filling. We walked in at the time of opening without a reservation and were able to grab 2 seats. We spent over $100 for a more traditional Japanese breakfast, so we were hoping to get blown away, but we weren't. The food is good and feels homey, but wasn't the best value. I guess it's due to the limited amounts that they can sell with their small space (12 seats).

Have been here for the breakfast and really enjoyed it. Came back for ramen and everything was way below expectations.Service was not good. Waiter gave us very sassy attitude and also would not bring us hot water despite asking for it multiple times. There’s only three tables at the restaurant so it was not busy at all and he still would “forgot” to bring us hot water.Ramen was beyond bland. I hate to say this but all the people there (from customers, cooks and waiter) were caucasians and I’ve only heard caucasian people raving about this place. If your Asian and have had real ramen don’t come here?Overall I’m disappointed and will not come back. It’s a very cute neighborhood shop but I didn’t feel the welcoming atmosphere.

Cute 12-seater that serves up Japanese breakfast/brunch set meal "Ichiku Sansai" - here, a platter of 5 items that was enough to fill me up for the rest of the day but not for peeps who need like "proper/heavy" lunch la.A rice bowl, an onsen egg, a bowl of miso soup, and pickles to accompany a piece of grilled swordfish, seasonal raddish in a light "goma" dressing, some broiled veg, sweet potatoes and that nice eggy dessert will take you down memory lane into Edo era ?.Light, bright, and supremely yumz, the backstop of this place (from what I've read) is that the chef actually never worked in a professional kitchen before ...until he was hired as a prep cook at his eventual business partner's restaurant.

I came on a Friday night at 830pm - if you're looking to dine here, perhaps avoid that time unless you want a rude and inattentive server. The poor service has been mentioned a few times now in reviews before this, I think Haraguchi really needs to do something about his staff at this point. They cannot continue to treat diners like a nuisance and expect no repercussions. This was my third time dining here, and I was extremely disappointed with both the food quality and service. I will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to anyone. The broth for our ramen was severely lacking in flavor, I even considered asking for salt. It was also a very cold day and I asked for a cup of hot water. The server told me he would get that for me. Our appetizers came out and I ask again, the server very curtly told me he would bring it out when there was "less things going on" -did he mean when there were less customers (there were 10 people dining at that moment) or when there were less things on the table (only 2 dishes had arrived)? I noticed there were kettles for hot water placed on the counter in front of where the server stands. He never brought me the hot water in the end, almost as if he was shaming me for even possibly asking for hot water. At this price point, I expect more from the menu and the service. It's sad to see how downhill this restaurant has gone, I was very excited to bring my friends to eat here and I left feeling very embarrassed.

I came here with my friends at 8:30pm on Friday with reservations. I was excited to try this spot as it was my first time but my friends have been here before. We ordered 1 appetizer to share (the scallop dish) 1 mazemen to share and we each ordered a ramen with onsen egg. The scallop was good and so was the mazemen but the ramen was straight up flavorless. I was expecting more flavor based on how highly rated this spot is + the cost. My friends also agreed that today’s ramen has no depth or body. Mind you we’re no food critics we’re average people. I’m usually impressed by the most basic dishes. The server we had also was pretty rude. My friend asked for hot water and after 10 minutes it didn’t come. No biggie we reminded him and he then said “there’s a lot going on here I’ll bring it later.” I’m not really sure what he meant by that. Did he mean physically there’s a lot of items? As you can see from the photos there’s plenty of space. And we just wanted a cup of hot water not a pitcher. If you don’t have hot water just say you don’t. Along with that we felt like we were being ignored. We tried to order but had to play that awkward game of eye contact. Eventually we just said excuse me slightly loud to get their attention to order. And same to pay and leave.Overall I’d not come back the waiter was rude and food had no flavor.

Very disappointed experience - the service was notably unfriendly, possibly the worst I've encountered in NYC, with staff giving unwelcoming looks to customers. The ramen, though unique, didn't justify its high price given the small portions. Also, it misses the mark for those seeking authentic Japanese flavors. Given my experience, I'm puzzled by the high ratings and can't help but question their authenticity. Unfortunately, not the experience I was hoping for.
