“My God… Chongqing Lao Zao might be the best Chinese hot pot I’ve ever had. And if you’ve seen my other reviews, you know I’ve eaten at A LOT of hot pot places. 😂 This one seriously impressed me.

The entrance is actually pretty small and very easy to miss, but once you walk through that door… WOW. It feels like you just stepped into a Chinese palace. The decorations, the details, the atmosphere—everything is beautiful. Before we even started eating, I was already walking around looking at everything.

Then there’s the service. Next level. The servers were so attentive that they basically wouldn’t let us lift a finger. 😂 Plates cleared, broth checked, food taken care of—they were always there without making us feel rushed. That kind of service really changes the whole experience.

And of course, the hot pot itself was incredible. Rich, authentic flavors and exactly what I want when I’m craving real Chinese hot pot. Great food is one thing, but when you combine it with this atmosphere and this level of service, it becomes an experience.

I review a lot of hot pot restaurants and usually can find at least one thing I would change. This time, I really can’t.

“I was there at Jian Nan Syosset, Long Island. Everything went great!! But, those took the orders needed to be more educated to understand each dishes. We were a fairly larger group than standard party size. Some dished were small and some dim sum served with small quantities, like 3 or 4. Those who order for the large group, should give suggestion to order multiple orders for the same dish. So, each one in the group can have at least one.”

“A great pure South Indian vegetarian restaurant, especially for authentic Tamil Nadu-style flavors. Everything was tasty, flavorful, and genuinely authentic.

They offer around 10–12 dosa varieties, rice dishes, and appetizers. Prices are very affordable, and the portions are moderate for the price, making it easy to try several items without spending much.

The service was good and fast. It’s an order-and-pick-up-over-the-counter kind of restaurant, making it a convenient option for a quick meal. There is plenty of seating in the basement, accessible by stairs or elevator. There’s also a small temple gift shop.

Parking can be challenging since it’s on a busy street, but a dedicated temple parking lot on Smart Street, one street over, has space for about 35–40 cars.

Overall, a great spot for authentic Tamil Nadu-style food, affordable prices, quick service, and plenty of dosa choices!”

“This is the best place ive been to and the ordering is great!!. The workers there are so nice and friendly and if something goes wrong they will try to make it right just got you. And the place is clean they always clean the place they mop and brush the floor, clean the windows. The supplies are usually restocked . If they have it in the back or somewhere they will check and no if there its not because no one wants it its because they care about you and what we need and want because I go there almost everyday they have orders to restock everything AT LEAST 2-3 ( key word: AT LEAST). “i have been coming here since the previous owners had it as it is near my job. when the new owners took over they really fixed it up nice but there was this guy at the counter that was so incredibly rude and looked as miserable as can be all the time. every time i asked for coffee it was like i was bothering him. the reason i came to leave a review today is because of who was behind the counter. he was so nice and so friendly it was a completely different experience then it has been. whoever was working the register today i hope you stick around!”

“Best place to buy an empanada if you are in a hurry. The beef, chicken, and cheese empanadas are very good. The female workers that work there are amazing. $2.50 each for an empanada is still pretty decent. You won’t find empanadas anywhere priced at $2.50 because in other locations, they are priced at $3.00. But definitely come visit this place.”

My son's big day today and I took a trip here to pick up my custom strawberry cake layered with their famous lightly sweetened freshly whipped cakes. When you step inside It's as if you step back in time. My mom first took me here when I was 11 or 12 and this place still look the same. The bakery captures a lot of customers from the surrounding businesses such as the hospital. It's great to see a flow a diverse crowd visiting this Gem. I also picked up half dozen curry beef pastry and their chicken rolls. I took a bite and taste just like my first time eating them in the 1990s when I was a little boy. When I want a good delicious healthier cake I come to Yeh's.”

The dishes like the hot stone rice bowl with stir fried spicy pork and vegetables stayed hot and crispy at the bottom, throughout dinner so every bite was enjoyable. Pancakes are huge, like a pizza pie. All portions seemed large enough to share. Lots of locals and regulars were in the restaurant which is always a good sign. This place has been around as far back as I can remember in the 90s predating tony bourdain’s visit to xian famous foods and by at least a decade. Same mom and pop running this place. Prices have dramatically shot up since flushing became a food tourist spot, but still competitive for the area. The tea eggs are a personal favorite. Bring cash.”

We all ordered the lobster with cheese (limited one per person) and honestly didn't have high expectations, but WOW that was nearly my favorite thing I ate the whole time there lol. The servers were quick, clean, and friendly. Noise level wasn't too loud, they played good music, and we had a great experience overall. “*4/5 stars — Great hall and food, one staffing issue*

We held our event at this hall and overall it was a really nice experience. The venue is clean, well-decorated, and has a great layout for guests. The food was a standout — fresh, hot, and flavorful. Everyone at our table commented on how good it was.

The only issue we ran into was with one of the volunteer staff members. Instead of serving, he sat down and ate with the guests. He also cleared plates and removed food from the table while people were still eating. It was awkward and threw off the flow of the meal a bit.

Outside of that, the rest of the team was attentive and the manager was responsive when we mentioned it. For the quality of the hall and food, I’d still recommend booking here. Hopefully they address the volunteer training so guests can finish their meals in peace.

“SHAKALAKA Bakery in Flushing is one of the more visually polished modern Chinese bakeries in the area and a reliable stop if you’re looking for cakes, pastries, or grab-and-go sweets that feel a bit more updated compared to traditional bakeries nearby.

The mango-based cakes are the most consistent thing here. They’re light, creamy, and built around fresh fruit rather than overly heavy frosting, which makes them easy to finish even after a full meal. The matcha cake also works well, leaning more milky than bitter, with a soft sponge that holds its structure without feeling dry. The pork floss cakes are one of the more interesting savory-sweet options, and they’re better than expected if you’re used to standard bakery versions since they don’t go overboard on sweetness.

The croissants and egg tarts are solid supporting items rather than the main reason to come. The croissants are flaky with a noticeable butter layer, and the egg tarts are best when eaten warm since the custard tightens up when cold. The purple rice desserts are heavier but work if you want something more filling and texturally different from the fruit cakes.

Service is generally efficient even when the bakery is busy, and the layout is set up for quick selection rather than lingering. Prices sit a bit higher than older-style Flushing bakeries, but the tradeoff is cleaner presentation, more modern flavor combinations, and consistently fresh-looking cakes.”

“Ji Bei Chuan is my go-to hidden gem in Flushing. Both dry-tossed and soup rice noodles are fantastic: the Family Combo dry noodles are coated in rich savory sauce, the beef brisket noodle soup has a deep hearty broth, the pickled vegetable fish noodle is bright and appetizing, and the premium fish maw bowl is loaded with quality ingredients. Sides, grilled gluten and crispy juicy tofu are also amazing — perfect with noodles or beer. Highly recommend!”

“My boyfriend and I absolutely LOVE this place. They have the best oxtail soup in the area and we always order it with either jokbal and/or seafood pancake. Last time we spoke with the only male server/staff (our favorite and always provides the best service) and learned that it was stewed for (?I think he said) 8+ hrs or something along those lines. They also have the best side dishes, as my boyfriend loves their cabbage kimchi. However, we wouldn’t recommend ordering the galbi as it is relatively tough and tastes like it was cooked in a pan rather than a grill. We tried some of their other soup dishes but weren’t too big a fan of those either. Usually the place is pretty cozy but sometimes they do host large parties, where it can get pretty rowdy. Definitely a hidden gem we visit pretty frequently.”

The mango-based cakes are the most consistent thing here. They’re light, creamy, and built around fresh fruit rather than overly heavy frosting, which makes them easy to finish even after a full meal. The matcha cake also works well, leaning more milky than bitter, with a soft sponge that holds its structure without feeling dry. The pork floss cakes are one of the more interesting savory-sweet options, and they’re better than expected if you’re used to standard bakery versions since they don’t go overboard on sweetness.

The croissants and egg tarts are solid supporting items rather than the main reason to come. The croissants are flaky with a noticeable butter layer, and the egg tarts are best when eaten warm since the custard tightens up when cold. Both dry-tossed and soup rice noodles are fantastic: the Family Combo dry noodles are coated in rich savory sauce, the beef brisket noodle soup has a deep hearty broth, the pickled vegetable fish noodle is bright and appetizing, and the premium fish maw bowl is loaded with quality ingredients. Sides, grilled gluten and crispy juicy tofu are also amazing — perfect with noodles or beer. Highly recommend!”

“Been here a few times. Best skewer place in this area or matter of fact anywhere near here outside of Flushing. Food is always fresh and good and service is great. The 2+1 specials on the drinks with soju and beer is awesome. The place looks very clean and new. Very roomy as well where you’re not crowded with other customers and AC works great during hot weather.

This trip we had the pig head salad along with assortment of skewers. All amazing. The meat with salad was so refreshing.

They also gave us this entire dish of crabs for $1!!! It was so good as well.”

They also let you customize your own taste with spices, chilli oil, sour string beans and more stuff you can add yourself which give the customer lots of freedom while adjusting a flavor that they will like the most. “One of the best seafood pancakes and sundae I've had. This was my first time trying 청국장 (清國醬), or cheonggukjang. It has a very strong smell, almost like a really strong cheese, with an intense, deeply fermented flavor.
