Good focaccia sandwich, i got the one with caponata, mortadella and fresh mozzarella. About $16. The place is small but cute, it sits about 9/10 people.

Love the idea of a neighborhood Italian sandwich shop and this spot stands out for its unique charm and humor. Had the Daniela which was decent but not what I’d try again. Service was focused on efficiency which I can appreciate.

Awesome neighborhood sandwich spot, one of the best in Manhattan tbh. If you're looking for quality ingredients, huge portions, and your own lil slice of Italy, Alidoro will not disappoint.

The Italian sandwiches here are good but they just don't have the same impact as the ones from Bensonhurst (Lioni's, Papa Pasquale, etc). I got the Pinocchio and really enjoyed the fig spread on semolina bread. Prosciutto + soppressata was a rather salty combination though. Roasted red peppers had a good texture and mellowed things out a bit but the mozzarella was kind of bland. Prices are high but the portions are decent and you can possibly split one sandwich into two meals, depending on how hungry you are. Glad I gave this place a try but I think I'll stick with my Brooklyn go-to's.

Was on a tour. Paid for 2 sandwiches. Waited 15 minutes. My group already left me. They said it would be another 2 minutes. Had to leave my sandwiches. Don’t go here if you need anything timely.I called three times to get a refund and no one answered.

Four stars solely for the exceptional sandwich. The spot itself is a tiiiiiny hole in the wall. But it has charm! There is kitschy decor inside and funny memes to read as you wait to order. We had two issues. 1) it smelled incredibly strong of Sharpie the entire time we were there. There were a bunch of signs written in Sharpie taped to the counter. But the smell was strangely overwhelming as we ate and I found it off putting. 2) There are 3 seating options inside. A table for 2. A table for 4 with a bench on either side. And a counter looking outside with stools for 2-3. We took the table with the benches but oh my god were the benches rickety. They wobbled so much I was worried it would break as I sat! Long story short - I'd come back for the food without question. There were so many other things on the menu I'd like to try. I'd just skip dining in next time!

Outstanding sandwiches! Have been here for over 40 years and when you try one of their sandwiches, you will know why.A few seats inside and there are two parks nearby...one a few feet away on Sullivan and the other around the corner on 6th Ave.Great staff.Truly the best in NYC by far.

I lived on Sullivan Street in the late 1990’s when Alidoro was known as Melampo. The sandwich’s were legendary then and they remain equally as good today. Every sandwich is made to order with fresh cut ingredients. The focaccia and semolina breads are so fresh and delicious along with sun dried tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and a great selection of cured Italian meats sliced to order. Alidoro can’t be beat in my opinion and that’s after 20 consistent years of enjoying these amazing sandwiches!

There are several of these shops around nyc now-- this was the first, and in my opinion, the only one to go to. I used to go here over 20 years ago when Alessandro used to own and run it. It took as long as it took to get your sandwich, you were not allowed to make any changes to anything on the menu, and you were grateful to wait in line and get it. Yes, he could be known for being cranky sometimes, but if you got on his good side, he would always slip you a free cookie in your bag that you'd find when you got back to the office. He was a true artist. The mozzarella was buttery delicious, the focaccia was fluffy crisp and flavorful, and there was always a Fellini film playing on his tv, a cat in the corner, and of course, a huge line. Then it was taken over by his nephew Walter,( I think his nephew?? Maybe just someone else??) anyhow, notably cheerier, though the sandwiches were just as delicious. It then became a bit of a chain around town, and I tried another location a year ago or so, maybe near Rockefeller center. and was disappointed and underwhelmed. I came back to this original location recently, and was delighted to see many of the original posters and decor still in tact, with a long lunch line just as before-- it brought me back. I'm not sure who is running this location now, (I didn't see Walter on the day I was there), but I can share that the sandwich (my usual- a Cabiria on focaccia), really did taste nearly as good as I had remembered it from over 20 years ago- though alas, no surprise cookie.
