McHales is within a stone’s throw of Time Square and a bunch of hotels, but somehow manages to retain a local feel. I say somehow, but this is because the founder, Paul, is a dead-set champion bloke, the rest of the staff are authentic and welcoming, the space is large enough to have some privacy and small enough to feel cosy, and sitting at the bar is a classic New York Irish treat (without the sticky beer-stained feel). I came down for the first time last month to watch the Celtic match starting at 7 am, I didn't know what to expect but the food was great, the staff were all very welcoming and friendly, and the atmosphere was great even in the early morning. I was so impressed I stayed after to watch the EPL matches they were showing even though I'm not a big EPL fan. I will definitely be coming back, and it's a must-visit for any Celtic supporter in the New York area.
