Our fabulous night started out with the warm greetings from all the staff to the delicious food and excellent service- Sushi of Gari is the perfect date night spot. Our server recommended a few specials that were to die for. All of the sushi melts in your mouth! The freshest I have found in the UES. And as a parting gift for celebrating their RE-opening after 2020, we received Sushi of Gari tea mugs. Top notch service and food is impeccable!
Sushi from NYC's old school sushiya, Sushi of Gari. It once it held a one Michelin star but not anymore to my knowledge. It is definitely one of the restaurants that started the sushi culture in the early 1990s for New Yorkers and still keeps its class to some level. For sushi perhaps, I have had better looking ones, however, the full umami flavor from its aged fresh fish was another level. Having returned the day before after two weeks in Japan, I was impressed (but not at all surprised) to find the food at Sushi of Gari to be just as good if not better than the high-end sushi restaurants I'd sampled. Gari set the standard for sushi in NYC decades ago and continues to amaze!
