lovely setting, professional/courteous service, food portion was ridiculously small. two shrimp tacos ($17)included 2 small shrimp each, a tasty sauce but didn't include fries or slaw. fountain drinks were $3.50 each! if not for the fries from my daughter's chicken fingers I'd still be hungry. I'm sure I'll be hungry in 2 hours.

We were staying right across the street and came every day for happy hour, three days in a row for a dozen oysters, just $1.50 each, 4-7. We tried the oysters Rockefeller, casino and buffalo chicken, too, but the traditional oysters on the half shell were our favorites.

i live in Manhattan and have spent all my summers on Fire Island. Because I live alone I eat almost all my meals out and this is the first time I am writing a Yelp review. I understand that Fire Island dining can be more "casual" than NYC restaurants and I'm totally ok with that. My experience at Castaway tonight was awful. First, we sat at the bar for a drink while our table was being cleared (even though the restaurant was less than half full). The woman tending bar was involved in a personal conversation with the only two other people at the bar and totally ignored us for five minutes. We were actually joking with each other that we must be invisible because she clearly wasn't seeing us. We eventually got our drinks and were seated and eventually a waiter did come to take our order (and telling us the 3 or 4 menu items thay had run out of) . We ordered drinks and apps and asked him to come back for entree orders. We also asked for water, he dropped a bottle in the middle of the table without bothering to pour it and couldn't seem to get away fast enough, though clearly not because he was busy because remember the place was less han half full. Shortly after a runner brought out the wrong food that was apparently intended for a different table, our apps came out later. So we sat there waiting for the waiter to come back for our entree order but he was too busy doing shots with some (over served) girls at the bar After about 30 minutes we decided to just give up so when the waiter came back (when he was done with his shots at the bar) to say "hey, how are tings here guys?" We told him that since he never bothered to come for our entree orders he could just bring us the check for our drinks and mediocre apps. We left there to find another place in town to have a decent meal. It's interesting to note here that almost every other place had a significant wait for a table but Castaway was more than half empty because it is so terrible.

Avoid this restaurant. We waited a half hour for a salad. After we waited another 35 minutes for our main course that never arrive we had to leave. The staff had no apologies for the delay.

I had low expectations and this place surpassed and exceeded them. Food was incredible. I can't recommend the shrimp tacos and the fried oysters more. First time in fire island and this was our first time and it set the tone for an amazing night. Staff was amazing and super attentive.

We found castaway by accident. We arrived in time for happy hour. Great drinks, great oysters. The Brussels sprouts are out of this world & the wings were crispy & well seasoned. I hope you are lucky enough to eat here.

I would probably leave a 3.5 if that was possible, and decided to round up as opposed to round down since the service was great. The food was also really good. My only gripe is with the wine pours and glassware. This place has the potential to feel upscale, I would suggest that they stop using cheap 4oz goblets that one would expect at a cheap pizza joint. And even more importantly, the pour was tiny and not priced accordingly. I'm guessing the pour was 3oz, 4 at most. A standard pour should be 5 oz. This place can be great with a couple tweaks in the wine category.
