The food was fantastic with ample portions with left-overs tasing just as good as when dined. The music was classic rock with a lot of great classic americana portraits and photos of nostalgia. My favorites were the hot fried chicken sandwich, the deconstructed eggplant parm appetizer, and the spaghetti with tomato sauce off of the kids menu (could have used a touch of salt but I think they underseasoned on purpose because it's for kids). The only dish that was pretty underwhelming was the shrimp and grits, which was kind of bland. “I am a City Island resident and I find thw Black Whale to be a gem on the island. Their eclectic manu has many excellent choices. Amoung my favorites are the cuban sandwich (excellent marinated pernil), the chicken cordon bleu (the sauce is to die for), the penne ala vodka and the lobster oreganata. It has a welcoming and cozy atmosphere far from the noisy drunken crouds in many other spots on the island. The staff is attentive and friendly.“
