“Wow! I recently moved my business to Main Street in Islip and tried this diner for the first time. I only ordered pancakes and these were THE best pancakes I've ever had! (And I've had *lot* of pancakes!) Our server was wonderful and man, was this place DECORATED! (Easter was just around the corner when we visited) They were very busy during our visit yet our food came to the table as if we were the only ones there. “When it comes to eating, this place has that Sonic Drive-In/Friendly's vibe; the food (burgers, fries, chicken, etc.) may not be something to write home about (much of it is "alright" at best) but the desserts (ice cream, shakes, malts, floats, etc.) is where the menu truly shines! Each ice cream concoction (including one of my faves, Rocky Road) is stuffed to the brim with mix-ins and the shakes are just the right kind of thickness.The girls who served my friends and I were very friendly with warm smiles and polite suggestions to get the most out of our eating experience. They even let me sample a flavor of their ice cream (after which I knew I was getting dessert with my meal!) so I knew what I was in for.The ambiance has that charming Pizza Planet vibe to it (If you've seen the movie "Toy Story" you get it!) filled with outer space decor and space-themed names for the menu items making it very family-friendly. If it had an arcade (or at least just a few cabinets), that would be pretty cool! (I'm not knocking points off for that one btw!)The place is definitely a good place for quality desserts and customer experience. Upon seeing prices that looked like they were from a bygone era (it's not just the lobster), we had quite a few items from their eclectic menu. But my the kids Mac and cheese was dry and had no real cheese or flavor.The blackberry fribble was great I'm lactose intolerant and I suffered for it but I finished it haha.Overall great for dessert. But even with the kids menu and options, the food is lacking. Also the Mac and cheese bites are basically little mozzarella Nugs. Not Mac and cheese!Kid-friendliness: Great options for kids. “My fiancee and I have been going to Northern Coast since shortly after it opened, and it never disappoints. This place is the definition of a "hidden gem", being in the lobby at the Hilton Garden Inn on the Stony Brook campus (you don't need to be a student to go, but students get a discount IIRC). Although it's right adjacent to the lobby with little separation, it's much more than your standard hotel eatery with lots of great New American dishes and a warm, comfortable, unique atmosphere.I've tried several dinner items, and all have been great so far, with reasonable prices, sizeable portions, good variety of styles, all fresh-tasting and "made to order". But, if there's one thing I always go back to, it's the roasted chicken. The skin is so crispy and it has a buttery au-jus that's just divine. It comes with some sauteed string beans that are sweet and flavorful as well. I'd also like to mention the pork chops, brussels sprouts, and the peach melba dessert as well.The service never disappoints, and at least when we went, the vibe of the place is calm and quiet (even with being next to the hotel's front desk). I dig the melodic chill/deep house from the hotel lobby, and I also love the style of the place, it's got a clean, colorful look that feels very "90s tropical". Screens are around that rotate through pictures of the food items. We usually eat there pretty late (it's refreshing finding a place that will stay open till 10PM), so I could imagine this place gets a lot busier and noisier at other times (like around college orientation/graduation, or brunch).I love this place and think it's a great addition to the area.
