Tried a Healthy Bowl with Salmon. Delivered in time. But the salmon is not very fresh. A little disappointed.

It's January. And like most of America, I'm trying to eat healthier foods. Maybe it's a diet. But it's nothing clearly defined. I'm not going paleo, or keto or whole30. I don't even know what those words really mean. What I'm trying to do is eat smaller portions, plenty of vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein. Which is about just as fun as it sounds. Perhaps the hardest thing for me these days is to find a place where I can eat out of the house without throwing the diet out of the window. But hey! Here's Fresh Eats in the Troy Kitchen, and they get me. For starters, they offer a small bowl. It looks really small, but food containers are crazy things. Portions turn out to be larger than they appear. It's an important thing to remember when you go into a restaurant and they give you what looks like a big plate of food. Really it is an extra-large humongous plate of food, that could probably feed a family of four. So I order the small bowl. For the base I chose a 50/50 split of quinoa and salad greens. Then loaded it up with vegetables like broccoli, red cabbage, and carrots. Chose grilled chicken breast as the protein. The hardest call was the dressing to go on top. Aioli is fancy-talk for mayonnaise. That's not on the diet. And both balsamic and lemon-honey sound like they could have a bunch of sugar, which isn't really on the diet either. But I think I made the right call with the lemon-honey. It was neither too heavy, nor sweet. It provided a light, bright zip to make the rest of the ingredients sing. Not only was everything quite good, but it was surprisingly tasty. The small bowl was perfect for my current dieting mode where I'm eating to curb hunger, instead of eating to a full sense of satiety. "Eat when hungry. Stop when the hunger subsides." That's my motto these days. And hopefully it will serve me well enough to be able to keep chipping away at my weight loss goals. Because as it turns out, my cheat days are epic. But if this is the price I have to pay, I think I can live with that.

Two of the options I wanted for my bowl were out, one of the options the guy working didn't even realize was out until he went to get some. The service was also really slow. The food was amazing though and the guy working was really nice and apologetic so I will probably give it another shot.

Finallyyy a place that serves a quick, paleo meal!!!! It is nearly impossible to find good healthy food in the Capital Region unless you want to sit down and spend at least an hour eating in. Thankfully, Troy Kitchen + Fresh Eats has done that. I was extremely impressed by the freshness of the food. There are so many places that claim they are "fresh," but they're full of crap. Yeah, not this place. Everything is crisp and cooked to perfection. The ahi tuna is to die for and the chicken is so well-seasoned that it melts in your mouth. It's good to note that all of their dressings are made in-house and you can't go wrong. The bowls are pretty cheap and they definitely offer more toppings than the previous review claimed. They must have added more since February. That said, this is a rapidly growing business. The staff are incredible. Unfortunately, if you're looking for an intimate atmosphere, you won't find it here. Troy Kitchen has an open concept, hipster-artsy feel to it. Think Los Angeles meets the only cool restaurant in an Omaha, Nebraska basement. Does that make sense? Anyway, I have already been back. I can't wait to go back again. Check it out if you're weary about trying a fancy food court, especially if you have nowhere to go for lunch.
