“I stopped into the 1888 Tavern for some food and drinks. They have a nice Biergarten, but it was pouring out, so they had the inside open with full service. It was my first time there since they have food service and serving liquor. The Tavern has always been nice--a rusty and modern look. The area isn't big, but it is big enough for a decent-sized group. Our table ordered loaded Nachos, salt and vinegar fries, Nashville fried Chicken, and a Burger, and it was all delicious especially the loaded nachos. It was overly loaded. The prices for food and drinks are reasonable. Fast forward to October; they had Oktoberfest that month. The weather was perfect, so I stopped by their Biergarten. They had music playing, traditional German dances, and games, and were serving their whole food and drink menu. Children and dog-friendly area. It was a good time and an excellent addition to the Utica area.“

“My wife and I stopped in here on our way through town and were not disappointed. The beers were incredible and they had a huge range of beers with something for everyone. I had a Hulbert House Helles lager and could've had 10 more! Finished with a maple bourbon barrel aged beer that was perfect for dessert! We had a tot waffle and a couple of flatbreads that were all really good. Reasonable prices considering how everything is these days. We stopped in on a Thursday and they were pretty busy with their trivia night. Cozy place. Looks like they have a huge front lawn that they use during the summer. We'll have to come back!“

“Awesome! Beer was excellent, very good varities, all immediately recognizable for their style and still unique. Very delicious food. Schnitzel sliders were a big hit. Staff was super friendly, attentive, and really made the experience top notch.Solid tap room and two large seating areas. Great music. Great vibe. Not sure when life will take me back to Utica but if it does, this is a must stop.“

Matt Brewing Company Brewery • $

“Visited for a large group tour. I can attest to the great value. We had all the beer we could drink before and after the tour, along with some pizza, raw veggies and various other edibles. The beer selection was solid; they had a style for everyone. The Tasting Room itself was quite lovely: High ceilings, lots of old hardwood, plenty of breweriana. The tour was great. The Brewery is quite nice, well-maintained, steeped in history. Guide knew his stuff and was friendly. Giftshop had some great items and prices were reasonable. A very positive experience overall.“
