Many of the smaller Chinese restaurants on St.Clair Ave. West are not known for their decor and in this regard, Joyful House does not disappoint. The floor and walls are rather dull looking but the food is not.I believe the owner is also affiliated with the grocery store next door and so has plenty of fresh vegetables on hand as well as other supplies necessary. He is a pleasant friendly fellow.You can pick up one main and noodles for about $8.00 and two mains plus noodles for about a tenner plus tax. The tofu and mixed vegetables are tasty and the thin vermicelli like Chinese noodles are well dressed with shreds of different kinds of vegetables running through them. The noodles are as good as any upscale Chinese restaurant would serve. As well as the sesame chicken, there are a lot of traditional pork dishes with bone-in which are not for me but others may enjoy their sauces and flavour.If you are fried chicken fan, this is where in my opinion, he excels. You can get three thighs with bone in for about $8.00 plus tax. They are hot, crispy, crunchy and tender with just enough salty infusion and are a really excellent example of what fried chicken should be. A five star restaurant with fried chicken on the menu could do well to learn his secrets. The test is always the next day where instead of dried up chicken with an oily texture crust, the leftovers are still crisp and the meat still tender.Lamesa down the street serves up a Filipino version that is boneless with a side of sweet chili sauce and picked carrots. It is also very tasty and crunch-wise ends up there with the best BUT Joyful House fried chicken is definitely in my top three for fried chicken greatness!

Perfect for a quick and pocket friendly takeout meal, combos are a great value. And, combo 2 consisting of noodle/rice, 2 gravies and vegetable is sufficient to be shared between two people.The food especially the noodles can be a bit too oil but it is yum. The vegetable stir fry, chicken fried and the pork in the green gravy our my favourites.The owner is friendly and warm.
