I never thought I'd be a regular somewhere, but then Lox + Schmear happened! The baked goods on offer are always a surprise and I have no idea how Lev makes them in the toaster oven! When L+S was just a store in its infancy, I pointed it out while sedated from tooth surgery that I wanted to go there, and now I'm there every weekend!

You cannot go wrong with anything on this menu. The Fancy Fancy is the best though. Seriously bury me in extra pickles and fresh dill. The smoked trout to go is also sensational. Take yourself out for some delicious food, and bring a friend (or two!). The owner Lev is also super cool. They're always there and I'm always so impressed when they remember names and faces. A true gem of a place!

2024 edit:Nothing is better than a lox bagel sandwich made by Lev! I come here most weekends (strong recommend you "make it crunchy" on any sandwich) and I also buy their lox and other stuff to bring home. LMAO at the person who complained they could make the sandwich at home for a fraction of the cost - you just described all restaurants. And you can buy this lox (the best in the city, nay, the best in the world!) to bring home and make a sandwich at home if you'd prefer that. The real ones know you're gonna get Lev to make you a sandwich, eat it, then buy a bunch of lox, bagels, cream cheese - and don't forget the smoked trout salad - to bring home so you can do it all again at home. The home version is never as good as Lev's. That's life! We can't all be lox geniuses!Literally the best lox in Toronto, by far. The best lox, the best cream cheese, the best people!

I live out of province and make a point to return to this shop any time I'm in town. All the food is infused with loving care, and the space matches the deliciousness of the food with stellar customer service and community vibes. It's like the best parts of an old school deli shop with the best parts of a hip cafe. My only complaint is that this shop isn't in my province so I can't visit every weekend. Also the store owner is WONDERFUL and absolutely deserves all your money.

Lev makes the most incredible lox I've ever had. When I lived in Scarborough, I would make the trek just to have a bagel. Yes. They're that good. My favourite is The Easy, but I've tried them all - and I now get it on a gluten free bagel and vegan cream cheese. - As someone who was worried they'd have to sacrifice taste/flavour for newer dietary restrictions -- rest assured, it's incredible.Passing up the opportunity to experience their sandwiches would be a mistake.
