Shame that such amazing food and wonderfully decorated space is paired with awful service.Stood around with my 81y/o grandmother for several minutes waiting to be seated. After we were unceremoniously pointed to our booth we sat for 16 minutes waiting for our drink order to even get taken and that only once I chased our server down. Our straws didn’t come until our meals were out and were unwrapped and placed on our table… this isnt even a service issue, but basic hygiene… how do you go about telling an adult that they shouldnt put their hands on something I’m going to put in my mouth??? Am i taking crazy pills?! (I am, but i digress…)We had the fondue as app, was AMAZING highly recommend! I had fish and chips which were a safe choice well executed, and grandma had sour graten, served with mashed potatoes, and some carrots that I could write pages about, incredibly unique seasoning on those carrots- DO NOT MISS THESE! We finished with the chocolate peanut butter cake: obscenely delicious.At one point our server mentioned that a kitchen staff member had called off and that she was wearing two hats… I’ve worked in kitchens for over a decade so i get it, but on a saturday night (strangely dead) there should be more than two people in front of house.Tldr; FoH staff could not handle their combined 6 tables ( a good server could handle all 6 alone), but my spidey sense says FoH management needs to step up to the plate more than anyone. Staff your restaurant, train your people, and get some straws with wrappers ffs.

I've live in Coos Bay over 10 years and finally decided to give Blue Heron a try. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. I was impressed by the diverse decor and the cleanliness of the restaurant. I was greeted promptly after arriving and was quickly offered a table. After looking over the menu I ordered the poutine for an appetizer and was pleasantly surprised with how delicious it was. For the main course I ordered the chicken stroganoff. At first glance, I was impressed by the presentation and aroma of the dish. Unfortunately, shortly after starting the dish I quickly realized that my pasta was over cooked, mushy, and even burnt on some pieces. The flavor of the sauce was delicious, but the texture of the pasta ruined the dish for me. My date had the burnt pork ends with mashed potatoes as the choice of side. He had minimal complaints, other thanthe mashed potatoes were a little bland. We got the peanut butter cake for dessert and I will say it was very delicious, the texture was just quite dry. Overall, it was a good experience and I would definitely go again, I just would not order the pasta.

I wanted to like this so much. Traveling to Coos Bay, I always hear great things but the family always wants Seafood. I finally convinced them and it was so disappointing. We were there about 630 pm on a Sunday evening (Presidents Day Weekend). There were 7 of us. There were two other couples. The server was friendly and the service was good. All our group ordered clam chowder. It came out lukewarm at best. Cold in spots. We told the server and she said sometimes that happens with their bigger pots...it doesn't heat all the way through. It was just ok. I had sauerbrauten...it was ok. My potatoes were not hot and the saurkraut tasted like it was the end of the week. My son ordered the Oktoberfest...he's a big eater and he didn't even eat a quarter of it and he "accidentally" left his leftovers there.I don't know if it was an off night but I don't recommend this unless they make some changes...the first being to make sure hot food is hot

Food was good. Slice of cake was $10 and they had a way that if you paid cash you'd get your dessert for free. Well we paid card and the a slice of cake was $10 plus a 3% surcharge for paying with a card. The cake is overpriced IMO.

We were there for a girls day out. There were so many rules that we will not go back. We felt hurried because of their 2 pm closing and 4 pm reopened. It was not a fun lunch. Added we had reservations at 1pm. Telling us to get their earlier is not the solution. We were not told we only had until 2 when we made the reservations. Telling us to get there before , 1:30 we were there at 1 pm!

Everytime I come to the Blue Heron the staff is friendly, kind, prompt; and the food always hits the spot! My favorite are the cakes, of course,(sweet tooth lover here) but his cheese fondue... ? delicious!!? I'll be back for more soon!!?
