“One of favorite breweries. A hidden jewel of the Portland beer scene. High quality beer in a wide variety of traditional styles and some innovations. Chill and friendly vibe. Dog friendly. Worth going off the beaten path to have a pint or two.“
“Highly recommended by locals and it didn’t disappoint. I enjoy sours and that’s what brought me here. The large selection of beers is fantastic! I enjoyed a flight of 5 different beers and the bartender gave me a taste of a seasonal one to boot. I was visiting from Alabama for the weekend and I am so glad I was directed to this brewery! The area had great shopping too. Cool local stores nearby.“
“Great low-key atmosphere, rain or shine! Family and dog friendly. Tons of outdoor seating, dozens of brews on tap, and several food truck options. We opted for brews and 1/4 slices of Ranch Pizza's pepperoni pizza and breadsticks. Everything hit the spot, staff were kind and helpful, and on a Friday night there was live music on the patio. We'll certainly be back!“
“Favorite spot to grab a beer and a bit of food. Mainly carts to choose from. Kid friendly and chill 80’s video game cabinet vibes. Tasty brews! Did I mention that the beer is so good. Have yet to have a bad one. I’ll keep trying for science!“
“My favorite beer has come to Portland! The new taproom said dog friendly on the site but know that means patio. They still made it as nice as possible for us by building a fire and bringing water out for our pup. Great service, nice people, and delicious beer.“
“Preston is one of the kindest, most personable bartenders in the city, so glad LB was able to retain his talents. Give that man a raise.Beers are diverse; light sours are the main attraction, but plenty of IPAs, stouts + lagers as well. The lager is stellar. Nice to finally see some higher ABV options.Patio is great, dog friendly, both open air + more private options. The establishment encourages outside seating, which is nice to see when most places are practicing COVID denial.Lawless BBQ is no Holy Trinity, but damn good, and very reasonably priced. Happy Hour has some great deals!!All around great spot. Cheers!!“
“Great setup with the various food vendors that are part of the building. Lots of different styles of beer and the server was friendly. The Timbers were on TV and this seems like a fun place to watch a game but we couldn’t stick around. Would like to come back in the summer and enjoy the covered patio.“
“This place is so charming. They had great beer choices and also a wonderful selection of non-alcoholic options for beverages. The decor was entertaining and has a really good vibe. I use a walker and have a service dog and was able to easily navigate the space. There is a ramp to the main door but also a flat lip if you go through the open garage doors. Parking was easy there is also bike parking right out front.“
“I was so impressed by how relaxing and welcoming this brewery was between all the plants and staff and of course the amazing beer!Portland is known for some of the best beer mainly the IPAs and hands-down this was such a fun spot I spent hours just hanging out at the bar enjoying amazing pizza and beer. This is a great place to take your friends or girlfriend/spouse and just relax!“
“You won't know it on the website , but they serve square shaped deep dish pizza , here. And it's really good . The beers , however , are citris centric. West coast this and that, Some lagers snuck in. Personally , I stick to the brown ale . Live music plays open a large space occupied , sometimes , by kids and dogs. Very dog friendly. Parking is in a fenced yard south of building. Also if you like to drive past 10 mph, you will miss the "Ruse" symbol on the side of the building.“
“Great place!I stopped here on the last leg of a cross country road trip in the early afternoon. The beer is fantastic, the food from Tomale Boy amazing, and the service top notch. Had a nice conversation with the bar tender and enjoyed the casual relaxed atmosphere without pretense.“
“A great place to grab a brew before or after a meal. They do not have food/meals just a few small pre packaged munchies. But you can get food delivered, or bring your own. There are some nice places close by for meals. It's very chill with good tunes always playing. Workers are super friendly and helpful. Don't be afraid to ask questions about anything new and recommended. They know what they are doing here. Looking to expand your taste, this is a good place. They host gatherings and markets from time to time. There is a nice outside area and a good amount of seating inside. Good for groups or just wanting to hang.“
“Dined last night with a party of eight, four kids and four adults and the food was great! Brussel sprouts, arancini, kale salad, and pizzas all came out quickly and everything was nicely seasoned and well balanced in flavor. The only real problem with our experience would be the lack of servers/ front of the house staff. Trying to connect with friends over a meal and having to order through a QR codes is really just the worst. Unfortunately this pandemic band-aid fix for social distancing has continued for places like this to keep labor costs down for restaurant/ establishment owners. Easier on their pocket books however this provides a lackluster experience for their customers. Even our food runner couldn't help us navigate our order history to search for a mistake in their food delivery, he was kind and fixed it however. The pandemic is over, hire some great FOH staff and this place would be soooo much better.Parking: Nice, large parking lot.Kid-friendliness: Nice large tables with games for kids!“
“Up and coming little nano brewery in the north side of town, no food served but Thai food truck right out front and home brew supply store next door. The location is a modern mix of industrial brewing equipment and hip tasting room decor with bar games, small patio area, etc. The staff and owners were really friendly, happily providing tastes and information about the establishment. Started with the Ginger Kid Vanilla Red Ale, a decent red, malty in flavor and medium body. Moved on to Gnome Bard Wit, which was a refreshingly nice and light beer for a hot day! Decent bite to it. Also tried the Tiny House Session, another good one, better than the previous in my opinion, more suited for a laid back beer to quench the thirst without getting too buzzed. Lastly, came the Common Cut, which I did not care for too much. All in all a great visit, being a fairly new brewery, I look forward to what they have in store next. With single barrel batches, they often introduce new taps so stay tuned! Check out their website, it will win you over pronto! Thanks guys, see ya again soon! Best, ~S“
“Showed up late in the evening again, barely making last call. It was empty but had a good conversation with the only other customer and staff. Only had the Japanese lager in keeping with my final last days in Portland, no more hopps for awhile. They also had an MKIII in the corner I didn't get a chance to feed. Worth a trip if in the area“
“definitely in the upper echelon of breweries in Portland. I have it just above Deschutes and in the company of 10 Barrel Brewing and Breakside. Normally im not a lager guy either but their Helles Lagerbier was really great and lives up to its GABF Medal. They make a great summer shandy out of it too. Also, there IPAs here are really great and live up to the West Coast IPA scene. the Spellbound IPA was really good and their original ipa and Earth's Eris were pretty good too“
“It is undoubtedly one of the best winery bars in Portland, with the best wines, environment, and atmosphere. They make a lot of experimental wines that are very special and delicious. The bar is decorated in the style of a jazz bar, and the music is played on vinyl records. There are drinking spaces on the first and second floors, both of which are very comfortable. It's a pity that they only get a lot of customers coming in to drink when there are events nearby. I hope everyone will come and support us even when there are no activities.“
“Fantastic beers, the fish and chips was amazing, very authentic. Owner was super cool, I really can't say enough nice things about it, it's an absolute must visit when I'm in Portland. Up the Sounders, up the Toffees, up Away Days“
“Very cool vibes at Threshold! The beer selection is fun and the bartender was very chill. There’s not much food selection here, but the area does have plenty of places to get something to eat.We went on a Friday which I think is karaoke night! It was fun for the time we were there, but very loud! There was outdoor seating, but it is not heated so dress warm.“
“We received excellent service at both locations we visited. This one was by far the best one we’ve been to out of both of them. Our bartender was amazing and on top of everything. I wish I got his name to give a shout out. He went absolutely above and beyond. We try to visit Vancouver every year, so we will definitely have to make a stop here on our way home. We love Great Notion. We’ve never been disappointed. We always get a few to take home with us. I’m a bit late to make a review of here, but I’m quite literally drinking Blueberry Muffin and it reminded me to do so.“
“Been here a couple times and I am consistently pleased with the service, value and quality. I’ve drank break side beers for a long time. Coming into their establishment it is so light and airy and welcoming. The staff is very friendly and the environment is lofty, airy and bright. Their beer fails to disappoint and each time I’ve come in the food is a perfect balance of pub food and class. Comfort dishes made with care. Their waffle fries are so nicely crisp on the outside with that smooth, mashed potato feel inside. The cubano was wonderful. Hard crust with soft, fall apart pork and crunchy house pickles with chipotle mayo for that subtle smoky heat. My partner ordered the beer and burger special and even a simple burger with a couple little add on was cooked well and seasoned properly. I could go on but I sure do enjoy coming here.“
“Highly would recommend. That sums up the experience. The owner behind the counter is a gentleman. He knew his taps like the back of his hand. He was of the upmost polite despite my "ignorance". This place is welcoming. Now the taste of the beer on tap, #10 was good for a wheat beer. There are many options here for all enthusiast or people looking for whatever their pallet is keen to.“
“Some of my favorite smashburgers in town! They are popular so expect a line and show the staff some grace if they are short or stressed. They are great people and the food is worth it. Pop into Level for a beer while you wait. Vegan and Gluten free options as well.Vegetarian options: Beyond meat optionKid-friendliness: Outdoor food-court style cart group, pinball inside Level brewing, across from Voodoo Donuts for an after lunch sweet treat for the kiddos.“
“The breakfast tacos are incredible every time. The pork belly, brisket, pulled pork and house made sausage are all tied for my favorite. The flour tortillas are light and fluffy. Thrilled they’re at this new location closer to my house. Have already ordered twice in two weeks ?“
“I have been coming here for years. Recently I went to pick up cans and there was nothing fresh in the fridge. Only some that were canned back in September thought that was really weird. A lot of guest taps as well, not sure if they're uninspired or don't care enough to make more of their own beers. I was about to come in a buy $60 worth of cans to take home but there aren't any. Owner is really nice though so I'll try again later.“
“Our favorite Portland area brew pub. Just has a great combination of a cool relaxing atmosphere, frequent live music, interesting menu, big windows and patio for people watching … great staff too. It’s a real community get together. Staff are real nice folks.“
“Staff is always friendly. They have some pretty decent salads. I'm GF so the food selection is limited but the kale salad is solid, and have good ciders available. The bathroom next to the kitchen was amazingly warm and cozy when we went during the ice/snow storm. 10/10 would pee there again.“
“Stopped in for the first time. Reminds me of a loved neighborhood bar/eatery.Arrowood deserves their high ratings. Husband and I had Cheeseburgers, he with salad, me with soup of the day - Curry Chicken. Wow. Burger was perfect, toppings complimented it well. Soup was so flavorful. 2 others in our party had fish and chips, raved about the chips and wished they had more. Last member had the Ahi sandwich. Said it was perfect.“
“A wonderful brewery out post and food cart pod. A much bigger spot than I expected when looking from the street. A nice variety of food carts, only half were open on a Sunday afternoon. I was really impressed with Bam Pow Burgers, excellent burger and the fries were cooked perfectly nice and crisp with a nice amount of salt. The tap list was nicely balanced with a surprisingly number of fresh hop options. The fresh hop never fresher pale ale along with the fresh hop stay fresh IPA were both excellent. The Eastside pilsner was nice and crisp. Beers to go and beer swag available.Indoor and outdoor seating options. Not too busy on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Fast friendly service. Street parking is the only option. Highly recommend a visit if you love good beer and food. I will be coming back.“
“This place is so cool!! There is a bar and restaurant with a movie theater inside. You order your food and drinks and they give you a number to take into the theater with you. They bring your food right to you as you're watching the movie. The decor is super unique and so cool to look at all the different things they have in there. In the movie theater, there is a dome up above that is super cool as well. The theater chairs are nice and big and give you lots of room. They have tables connected to the chairs in front of you for your food. We love this place and will definitely be coming back and recommending to others.Parking: They have a parking lot and parking on the streets around it.Kid-friendliness: It is definitely kid friendly. They even have a kids menu for food.“
“Really large brewery, almost a brew hall. Large bar, pizza kitchen, record shop? I watched someone drop $100+ just on records, so must be well curated. Kind of has a punk rock feel, maybe that was just the music playing. It's a really nice place though. A big indoor fireplace, lots of seating inside and out. I had a couple of their pilsners, Dad's beer got a full pour. Read a chapter until last call and on to the next.“
“This is a great local brewery. Our go to neighborhood location. This is a video game theme brewery, pinball games, and has a small outdoor deck in the back and small outdoor patio in the front. This is a dog friendly establishment for well-behaved dogs :) We have brought our dog and kiddo and it has been great. Beer is definitely solid. This used to be an old bank and the taps are inside what used to be a bank vault! Very friendly staff.“
“Good beer. Plenty of indoor & outdoor seating. Dogs allowed! Video games?!? What more can you ask for from a brewery?? My husband and I were looking for a spot to take our pups out on a Friday night and stumbled into Level Beer. We've been to the other locations and have loved the vibes, so we're glad to have finally gone to this location. There are multiple food trucks on the outdoor patio to order from if you have the munchies. The beer selection is massive! The hazy we shared was super refreshing. We especially loved the pong arcade game and only wish we had more cash in hand to play more games.“
“I'm not a beer drinker... so I skipped this place for way too long.... Don't make the same mistake I made. The pizzas are a-maz-ing! Great interior with plenty of outside seating on these perfect summer/autumn days. We've always enjoyed good service .... Friendly staff.... Great location in MLK (for us anyway!)“
“If I lived in Portland I'd come here regularly. The beer was amazing and Jason was awesome to talk to. It was really cool experiencing a nano brewery and trying some awesome beers made by someone who loves beer. The hazy IPA I had was amazing and I'm definitely going to miss it.“
“My wife and I finally stopped by and it was 10/10 experience! The servers were awesome, super simple to be able to order (right from your table QR code) and someone quickly brings you your food. Worked really efficiently and staff was super nice! The beer was reaaaaaallllyy great, and the food was fantastic! May be the best nachos I've had in Portland, and the Lamb burger was On a side note they have these really cute and fun Jell-O shots Definitely come here!“
“I’m not sure if Tyler is part of your location, but whoever the Safeway Tyler was at Safeway today was a complete champ. Me and my buddies totally bought some and he gave us a few laughs while trying out the beer. Thanks breakside and thanks Tyler!!“
“I want to say that I am impressed a friend invited me to this brewery, I was skeptical at first, but I was trilled after I've tasted the beers. We had two sets of samplers with 12 different beers, which I can tell that they have a variety of beers!I really enjoyed my time here.“
“A wonderful brewery out post and food cart pod. A much bigger spot than I expected when looking from the street. A nice variety of food carts, only half were open on a Sunday afternoon. I was really impressed with Bam Pow Burgers, excellent burger and the fries were cooked perfectly nice and crisp with a nice amount of salt. “A great local taproom with a wonderful taplist featuring local and other brews. As a fan of pilsners, their Ordnance Pilsner was exceptional! The staff couldn't have been more friendly or knowledgeable about what they serve. We will definitely be back soon!“
“The best beer bar in Portland as far as I'm concerned.Welcoming atmosphere, friendly peeps, and GREAT beers, both on tap and packaged. Prices are extremely reasonable. There's usually a 3rd party food vendor, but you can also bring your own. And they've been open everyday for the last 5000+ days!If you like beer and/or bar culture, you should have already visited this place. But if you haven't, there's no time like the present!“
“I visited this cool SE brewery with a couple of friends and it was a great little place to stop in and have a brew. I had the red which I really enjoyed as it was kind of dark and toasty for a red which was perfect considering the typical cold and wet Portland day. I definitely want to come back when it's warmer as it looked like they had some great outdoor seating too.“
“Delicious meal of the day. It was some kind of fish which I truly enjoyed. I have a well traveled palette so I asked for some extra garlic butter and lemons to add to my fish just in case. But I was pleasantly surprised at how perfectly seasoned the dish was. Well done Backwoods! I have attached before and after pics of my plate to show how much I enjoyed the meal. However, I was disturbed by how liberally the staff sprayed the table adjacent to us with a Peroxide solution, and then wiped it down with a cloth. This happened just after our meals were served. It happened again while we had our drinks after the second group left the same table. I worry that the spray's microparticules will travel to meals and drinks nearby and as a result we are subconsciously ingesting a cleaning agent!! I suggest that you spray the solution on a cloth away from food and drink, and then just wipe the table with the cloth. I would otherwise have given Backwoods 5 stars....“
“Sarah and Abby are the greatest bartenders I have ever experienced. Both so considerate and observant and just pleasant af. Always know when I am ready for another drink. Also just so sweet and kind and cool and make me feel so special. The reason I come! Thank you for making me and my friends feel so good. I hope your employer knows how incredibly cool and valuable you are! I will come again and again to see you both!“
“Fantastic 'market' destination with food and drinks, don't let the quiet street front put you off. The Taproom bar has great selection of local craft beers and incredible cocktails. Awesome service as well - learnt loads about good spots in Portland to hang out.“
“Barleycorn," of course, refers to the barley used in malt liquor. And aren't we glad it does? Inside John Barleycorns, you'll find a nice, dark, cozy space — topped by a dramatic cathedral ceiling — and McMenamins-strength ales and spirits. Outside, the terrace is surrounded by a garden.Stop by with family and friends for a pint or two, handcrafted in-house.Happy Happy Hour 2-5 everyday“
“4 stars for the beer. Family member said beer was pretty dang good and it’s impressive what they’ve done and how they’re 100% gluten free. Although I wish it was clear on their website that this is a “limited service restaurant” (I.e. order from your phone at the table and very limited contact with staff other than them bringing your food to you). I understand if they do not have the means to be a full-service restaurant but just wish it was clearly stated on their website. A Gastropub is supposed to be a full-service restaurant. As someone with celiac disease, I rarely get to go out to dinner and was looking forward to eating at a full service restaurant (not a 5 star fancy place necessarily but at least just given the service that usually comes with food priced as high as it is) We drove from Vancouver, Wa and were a little bummed. Beer was great though ?“
“Cool little warehouse location with his staff that is super friendly and helpful. Street parking is available. There's a fire pit outside which is cool.We came for some food after checking out Hopscotch. I ordered up the chicken sandwich which came with fries. My friend had the BLTA with fries. Both orders came out quickly, and the fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Yum! My chicken sandwich came on a nice soft bun with garlic aïoli, bacon, tomato, onion and was absolutely delicious. Love the high ceilings in the warehouse feel. Lots of space and there's games to play if you like. Keep up the good work we'll be back!“
“Not sure how I haven't reviewed this place yet. One of our favorite breweries in Portland and they're so close to home! Bartenders are always nice and patient since there's so much to look at. They offer little tastings which is always nice and they talk to you about what you're looking for to better help you decide. The atmosphere is always super chill, not too loud either. You can bring food in which is fun (we recommend MaKin Thai & Sushi down the road). And even when it's packed it's still chill. It's fun to watch the regulars interact with the bartenders (and I think we're becoming regulars too). Oh and the prices are great. They're good people serving good beer!“
