This would have been a 5 star rating, however, when I got home to eat the berry Danish that I specifically went there for (this was my first time to the bakery), there was a large sliver of what appeared to be nail polish in the top of my Danish. I imagine it wasn't there when it was baked, as it rested on top, but it made it in (likely during the boxing up period).You can check my review history, as I usually write amazingly positive reviews, but this was gross and disappointing. I basically wasted the money to just dump it in the trash and be bummed.The bite that I did take was ABSOLUTELY delicious.

The baked goods, the bread, the pie, ALL CONSISTENTLY GREAT! Ask for an extra hot chai, tepid. Today I ordered a bowl of broccoli cheddar soup; not even lukewarm less than a minute after I took it to my table. I took it back and was promptly given a new bowl and the woman was very polite about it. It was slightly warmer, certainly not a bowl of hot soup. However, the clencher was this soup was some of the worst soup I have ever had anywhere! BLAND, where was the taste of cheddar? Big floating chunks of broccoli in a bizarre pasty baby food tasteless soup. Grand Central, come on, you know better! I tossed it and left.

My go-to home town bakery. Love this place! My favorite sandwiches here are the egg n cheese biscuit and the veggie grinder. There sourdough is the best!Vegetarian options: Veggie grinder is vegetarian comes with cheese.
I've been living nearby for years but only recently went to Grand Central Bakery. I'm not sure why, but I always avoided this place but maybe because it always seemed busy. I think there's a good reason they're busy, the bread, sandwiches and drinks are all very good. They have a cafe with sandwiches, salads, soups and delicious baked goods. My daughter loves their latte and I can tell they make it with care. I love their daily soups, especially the potato leek is delicious. And I have been getting their breads in the stores for years. I've also had their ham sandwich on baguette which is simple but very good. It may be my favorite place within walking distance. The prices are good, their service is excellent. Yes, it's always busy but I can usually find a seat. Family friendly.

Absolutely love this place! When I'm in Portland this is my go-to for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. Great options and their seasonal sandwich are so yummy! Great coffee and pastries! And the customer service is fantastic! And thier loafs of bread are soooo tasty!Parking: This location can get busy so parking can be tricky. You may have to park a few streets away.
