The food was delicious! The waitress was very friendly and helpful in explaining the menu and recommending food. The skirt steak was my favorite thing. It is tender and so delicious with the chimmichurri sauce. I was disappointed that the short ribs were tough and grisly. You must also get the cooked carrots, Spinach gnudi, and the brussel sprouts. All in all, a fantastic experience.
Ox makes good meat, and they serve it to you in a thoughtful and curated endeavor that drips with attention to detail and care that invokes “dining experience” in a way that Portland sometimes eschews. (Nothing against having someone sling me an amazing meal through counter service.)I cannot stress enough to you how good the meat is, however. Many dishes are cooked in the restaurants large open fire — which is a highlight itself during the cold winter months. The ribeye we ordered was cooked perfectly to order and had a delicious sear on it. It deserves a photo on my nightstand.Outside of the meat they have unusually good taste in oyster selection, and a number of hard hitting sides and appetizers. Their Dungeness crab bruschetta was the highlight of our meal. Their carrots were irrationally good.Cocktails are creative and paired well with the food that came in generous portions (and came home with us in take out boxes.)Ox is a great place to bring a group — food is served family style and you’ll want to try as much of it as you can.Staff is friendly and helpful who offered meaningful advice on our menu choices. They seem, unusually, flush with folks on the dining floor and it meant our drinks were constantly topped off and emptied plates were swept away. It feels like the team takes a lot of pride in their work.Don’t sleep on Ox, it deserves its place in the recent Top 40 in Portland list — if not higher up.

Unassuming and if you blink you will most certainly miss it but, what an outstanding restaurant with excellent service and even better food and drinks. I have to give this place 5's across the board because honestly not one negative box was checked thru our entire experience. I can't remember the last time i loved every single dish and drink we ordered. I wish i had a bigger appetite because i would have loved to try everything this place has to offer, but i can certainly go back for another round. Well done ?? ✔️
I had eaten a number of years ago and enjoyed my food. This time I was very dissatisfied. Lacking flavor and seasoning. Poorly prepared short ribs. Not what I expected for the money.
