The food is great, but the service at the Thurman bakery was extremely slow (only one person serving a long line of customers) while two other employees were chatting it up with each other & totally ignoring all the customers. Our interaction with the server lacked basic customer service friendliness and courtesy. It was the worst service we’ve experienced there in many years of being customers.

After a couple mile hike through Forest Park, stopping in to get lunch was a perfect little treat. The folks behind the counter were very kind, food came out pretty quickly for the line of people ahead of me, and it was super tasty! Highly recommend!

Worth the time to find parking. All of their food is good and they make a mean cappucino. Pictured is the pear tart and blueberry lemon pastry.

Very rude staff. I never got one of the things I ordered and they got mad at me when I brought it up. Maybe it was a hard day for them, but that's no way to treat a customer when you made a mistake. Not coming back.

St. Honore never recovered from COVID. Rude, inefficient staff, high employee turnover. Stale food made in advance, sits in display case aging quickly. Increased prices, decreased quality. Used to be good, now your 4th best option....

Visited Portland for a week and came here 4 times, absolutely loved it. The pastries were the best we found in the city and the coffee was so-so. The staff was always polite and helpful and the service was fast even on busy mornings. Was very lucky to be staying just a block away so we could visit most mornings, but I'd drive across the city for that almond croissant.

Extremely authentic French Bakery/cafe, very much like what you would see in France. The food is delicious. I had the turkey and cheese croissant and the Strawberry millefueille and both were fantastic, highly recommend. Everything is baked fresh that morning. There is some indoor and outdoor seating available. There is a water station and you bus your own table.

Delicious food and good service. They have everything you can imagine! Tried their baguette sandwich for lunch and it was perfectly crispy. The selection of pastries also looked amazing but didn’t get a chance to try. It was not busy when I went but there was a steady flow of people. Highly recommend for a quick sweets and cafe lunch.

The pastries are good at every location but this spot has the worst customer service every visit. Multiple times online orders were ignored. One particular staff member that seems to run mostly the cashier, always grumpy demeanor. The location is what keeps this place open.

We came during breakfast hours, but they were out of most of the breakfast stuff. Lady at the counter was rude about the menu, acting as if we were stupid for trying to order from the menu and that we should instead just know to look at the pastry case on the other side of the register that we couldn't see. Their menu has some items that look like they're made fresh, but it's actually all just premade baked goods/sandwiches. I got an eclair, which was not great (eclairs are my fav), made with mousse instead of pastry creme, and the coffee was meh. At least they had space for us to sit.

Nice little bakery that opens up early. Really enjoyed the hot mocha and croissants and a short walk from the Holiday Inn express hotel. Wish the place was cleaned daily too as there were food crumbs all over the windowsills and floor.

I am still giving St. Honore on Thurman three stars because the pastries are still wonderful. The decline in service, trend toward pre-made salads and sandwiches, rather than made to order and serve in ceramic bowls (as they were in the past), represent a drift downward that I've observed over the past couple of years. At one point when a manager I didn't recognize publicly humiliated me after I'd purchased an expensive salad by accusing me of stealing silverware and mocking me I swore I would not go back despite having had wonderful experiences when Evaline managed the Thurman St. location. This experience was so unpleasant that I abandoned the $35.00 worth of food I'd purchased for a friend and I and left the restaurant, shaking. The manager did not care. During my last visit, despite a long line, the single counterperson chatted on and on with someone she knew although the transaction was over. While waiting for my salad, which I'd anticipated would be made while I waited and might take up to 10 minutes (judging by past orders - and I'm OK with that), I looked for a fork. Not finding it, I asked the many young staff members behind the counter for one. Saying they were snotty and abrupt would be a kindness; I was told they were all dirty and they hadn't got around to washing anything yet. This was put to me in a way that told me they considered my request to offensive to them and that I should just wait however long it took someone to wash anything. When orders came up, they were yelled out like a hash house. My salad finally appeared, in a plastic take-out container like you'd find at Safeway. There was no way to toss the salad, which was completely divided into ingredients, although I tried to do it on the tiny plate I got. Luckily I carry a study plastic fork with me and was able to eat the salad but the crowd in the restaurant were not the mix of ages, languages, and French feeling that I used to experience there. From other reviews, which rightly focus on the baked and specialty goods, most visitors are OK with this sadly degraded version of a service and atmosphere. To be fair, I'll add that the location in Lake Oswego, and even the smaller "express" location in downtown Portland remain pleasant, unchanged oases that I still enjoy frequenting. Not sure what is going wrong on NW Thurman.
