Restaurantji's Catasauqua guide: Where to find the ultimate Mexican flavors.
“I was hungry late night and googled places near me to eat and amigos was one of the options. This was my first time eating here and they did not dissapoint. It does not compare to chipotle at all. The food taste more authentic. I can taste the fresh cilantro and cut unions mingling together with their home made chipotle sauce. You have to try the chips and guac. They were not salty like the ones at chipotle and all my chips were evenly cooked. They even have fried yellow plantains. Something that i over heard an employee telling another customer is that they dont freeze the meat. its all fresh daily and that is a big diffrence in taste. I was surprised that the owner was there and introduced himself. He is a genuine guy and said if i have any feedback on how to make it better to let him know. I feel a franchise will be something this new taste and style will benefit from in the near future. I will definately be eating here more often. The hidden gem of allentownVegetarian options: They have veggie bowls salads and tacos or burritos they also have sweet plantains at no extra costKid-friendliness: They have kids meals and tacos. What kid dosent like tacos“
“The food here is excellent. Every dish is freshly prepared and full of authentic flavor. Very reasonable prices and friendly service. The salsas are wonderful. The dining area is very small so takeout may be better for many people. But when it's just me, I like to eat inside.“
“I've loved everything I've ordered here and have been a consistent customer since they've opened. I love supporting a family business. Friendly service and tasty food. What's not to love? The brisket quesadilla is hard to pass up when I go and I love their sweet plantains and fresh, homemade queso.“
“Everyone is really nice there and helpful. My son gets something specific each time and they always take good care of us. Would definitely recommend.Kid-friendliness: They take good care of my son when we eat there and they're friendly about doing it unlike other places.“
“Great food, reasonable pricesWe got the chilis Mexicano (poblano stuffed peppers), bifsteak with peppers and tomato, a combo plate with flautas taco and quesadilla (Yucatan), and a dozen chipotle wings (great and crispy)All were shared and amazing with just the right serving size.Clean space, plenty of seatingParking is mixed, but the same for the whole area“
“The chips and salsa were fresh and plentiful. The beverages were refreshing and the rim was just the right amount of salty and spicy. My Baja Fish Tacos had tender flaky fish and light crispy fried batter perfectly balanced with the avocado, pickled onions, and sauce. The roasted veggies served on the side of the Burrito Maya and the enchiladas my companions ordered were tender-crisp and seasoned just right. We all enjoyed the plate of churros.Wheelchair accessibility: Parking spaces & ramp are easy to find and use. Have someone open the door for you.“
“The food here is always fresh and splendid, I have no complaints the atmosphere is super cool and chill there’s always some sports on the tv and the customer service is a 10/10Vegetarian options: They have two selections other than the salad.“
“First off let me start off by saying I'm for alwasy on the hunt for really good Mexican food. I'm definitely a foodie. With that said today was my first time here. My fiance, brother, and I decided to visit here after my mother told me about her first visit here a few days prior. We had 2 orders of birria and 1 order of steak taoca. Excellent. The food was delicious. The birria meat was soft tender juciy and packed with flavor. The steak tacos were very good. The meat by itself could have used a slight more salt but that's my personal preference. The toppings is what made the tacos not need any salt. I I highly recommend the eveything on it if you can. I love Horchata, any Mexican restaurant that doesn't serve horchata immediately is a turn off for me. Well they had it and it was great. I will definitely be going back and I can't recommend this place highly enough. By the way the owner is super chill and i appreciated his welcoming atmosphere.“
“Stopped in on a whim and was not disappointed. Had the spinach and feta omelet, and my friend ordered the biscuits and gravy. Both were delivered promptly and tasted delicious. No bland omelets here! Definitely would recommend if in the area.“
“I visited Tulum to check out their hard shell tacos that call "The Taco" on their menu. These are fried flour tortillas that are generously filled with lettuce, cabbage, cheese, creme sauce and a choice of meat. I chose pork, which was quite good and reminded me of the filling for a pulled pork sandwich. The only down-side was the tortilla shell broke down during eating and this resulted in a "taco salad" that was finished with the "spork" supplied with the order. It was quite large and a single taco was plenty. I also ordered a pork "mini-rito" which, as the name suggests, is a small burrito. It contained rice, cheese and the same pork used in the taco. My wife chose the vegetarian tacos on corn tortillas with rice and beans. She said they were quite good. Tulum is located directly across fro Lehigh University with street parking and it appears most of their customers are to-go for students. The interior is small and accommodates 13 people if full. Tulum is a good value for what we had and worth returning to again when in the area.“
“Ate here today with my wife. The place is beautifully decorated and neat and clean... the food was delicious especially the birria tacos.. better than I've seen in other places. Tacos Placera were great also on their homemade shells..the owner/cook was the nicest person, it was a joy meeting “
“We loved El Paisano!!! A small, cozy vibe. The service was great and the menu had so many choices! Loved their guacamole, burritos, tostadas, and gorditas. I wished the chicken had some more flavor, but we can’t wait to go back and try more!“
“Cali Burrito is so delicious! Their online ordering is super easy and convenient. Their fresh salsa is the best! I love their tacos and service has always been great when I have dined in. I highly recommend this restaurant!!!!Vegetarian options: Santa cruz is the best!“
“My go to place in LV when I’m in from nyc ! The staff is amazing they always make me a perfect custom bowl for me ! Everything is fresh and the place is spotless ! It’s a 10 out of 10! You pay for quality definitely no one can compete in the area ! Everyone must visit for lunch or dinner !“
“I’ve been coming here for a few years now. Food is amazing and really good prices. The food is always fresh, food does not sit. Once you order, they start too cook your food. They have always treated me and others with respect.Resturant/corner store.“
“Best spanish spot with the best cuban sandwiches! i’ve been going here for a couple month now they have the best cuban sanwhiches for a amazing price i would not pick another place to get food from! bought 2 cuban sanwhiches for 12 dollars!! 10/10 recommend.“
“I'm not sure if any of the food here is authentic Mexican food (having never been to Mexico), but I don't care. It's just excellent food. I've eaten at three different Plaza Aztecas and the food has been phenomenal everytime. Most importantly... I've never gotten the Hershey Squirts from eating here. In fact, I don't even know what the bathrooms look like. For me, that's saying a lot.“
“honestly the best authentic real tacos in town! And any other town that I’ve tried!! I usually get the two taco plate all the time! It comes with rice and beans which are delicious and there is so much meat in these tacos that I get four tacos out of it. I put a picture below and this is after I already ate and got full on rice and beans and two tacos because each taco has two corn tortillas, so I split mine up all the time and this looks like this meal has not been touched. The price is absolutely fantastic on everything. I think I pay $12 for this plate and I eat more than once every time we love you guys and we will see you next time!! You guys are fantastic and your food is absolutely delicious!!!!!“
“Stopped in last night for family dinner with my mom and sister. The fresh guacamole was delicious as well as the queso dip!! My sister and me both got the Enchilada’s El Jefe. It was easily one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. The flavor combo was out of this world. Servings were perfect for the price! My sister, mother, and me all had leftovers for the next day. Service was great as well. Our waitress was very nice, welcoming, and patient as it took a little to decide what we all wanted. We decided on splitting the fried ice cream for dessert as none of us had tried it before. It was divine and most definitely a must have!! Thank you Plaza Azteca for amazing service and amazing food. We will most definitely be back again.“
“Absolutely delicious tacos! A must-try next time you're in Allentown.Tamales have also become a favorite. If you dine in, you'll enjoy the lively corner market vibe, cheerful Mexican music playing, and perhaps a soccer match on TV. Most of all, you'll enjoy your interactions with the family that's cooking and serving your food.“
“Wow talk about a chimichanga! I added a jalapeño for some perspective. Never seen one this big. This place was delicious. And service was very friendly. My SO had the taco/empanada with rice and beans combo and complimented everything as well!Just make sure you know everything is served 'plain'. You need to add each thing you want. Can be good for picky eaters. But the salsa were delicious (and had a decent kick to them), my favorite was the cilantro jalapeño. Next time I want to try the Mexi Rico chipotle if they have it (sadly out this time).Reasonably priced and portions and very respectable.First time here and definitely won't be our last.“
“We were in the area yesterday and stopped here for lunch. Wow! Flavors were incredible. Salsa was fresh and delicious. Ground beef tacos were overflowing and the meat was so flavorful. Mild sauce was yum and sizzling chicken fajitas were amazing! Peppers crisp and chicken moist. So much flavor and enough for leftovers.“
“This is the best Mexican restaurant in the Lehigh Valley. Honestly, my personal favorite restaurant in the valley, beating out many fine dining establishments. No joke. Service is always good. Flavors are out of control. Portions are great.Nachos supreme, lengua tacos, enchiladas verde, every time. Finish off with Tres Leches. You will not be dissapointed. We moved out of the area, and now we travel 40 minutes to get lunch here when we’re in the mood. It’s always worth the drive.“
“A friend recommended Cactus Blue. We went there for the first time, and we were very pleased with the food. The food was delicious, and the portions generous. My husband likes spicy, I like mild. They offer you a choice of sauces, so we both were happy. We'll be returning.“
“This small unassuming place is absolutely delicious. My boyfriend says it’s possibly the best Mexican he’s ever had, and that man eats a lot of Mexican. We started with Guac and the chorizo nachos (Chorinachos). We think they may make the chorizo in house and either way, it was so so good. We ordered birria tacos, chorizo tacos (because the chorizo was so good the first time!), a steak and chorizo burrito (what did I tell you), and the Mexico Lindo fajitas. My boyfriend also said it was the best birria tacos he’s ever had. Burrito was great and probably about ten pounds, and chorizo tacos were great. The fajita was seasoned perfectly. Not to mention the prices are extremely affordable. You can’t miss here.“
“So I read some of the bad reviews and I have no clue where these folks actually ate. I have been here before but just rediscovered and introduced friends to El Patron. The place is warm and friendly but not fancy. The service is also very friendly and very laid back. The star is the food. Everything is delicious, authentic and plentiful. The only tough part can be parking but try it, you will fall in love.“
“Great food and service. A wide variety of Mexican food with lots of tasty vegetarian options. Order food downstairs and seating is upstairs. Could be an issue for some people.Vegetarian options: Fish tacos, corn fritters, veggie nachos and lots more.“
“The food is awesome ! The Italian and the Mexican grill is an odd mix but the food is good all around. The employees take pride in the photos on the menu not being stock photos . The portions are generous and delicious . My new regular lunch spot while at work .“
“Big fan of this place. We stop here often when we go to the farmers market. Great empanadas, enchiladas, and tamales. The owner, Tom, is a super nice guy. My son has never been able to tolerate spicy food but Tom sat down with him and coached him through trying it on his empanadas. Now my son is hooked and I'm glad we picked up some salsa roja for the road. Very friendly, family run place with great food.“
“The most delicious Mexican I’ve had in this area, and that’s coming from a Mexican! Born and raised on this food, and it tasted like a home cooked meal by my family. I could’ve rated the service a little better but I felt like our waiter could've checked on us a few times during the meal, absolutely authentic, great sauces and quality food. So good that didn’t even get a chance to get photos.“
