Nestled within the bustling aisles of Reading Terminal, Hershel's East Side Deli is a pastrami paradise that turns the humble sandwich into a culinary masterpiece. Here, the hot Pastrami Sandwich reigns supreme--a rye revelation that packs the juiciest pastrami, tangy sauerkraut, zesty Russian dressing, and gooey Swiss cheese into a grilled-to-perfection package.Diving into this sandwich is a deep dive into deli delight, where each bite whispers the secrets of sandwich sorcery. Hershel's mastery transforms lunch into an experience, making you ponder the profound joy found in simple pleasures.Overall, with its friendly service and a vibe that's pure Philly, Hershel's earns top marks for crafting not just meals, but moments to remember.

Man, the sandwich game in Philly is SO strong!!! Everybody tells you to eat cheesesteaks when you go to Philly (which we did plenty) but no one tells you about all the other great options. I would fight a rabid dog over a corned beef or pastrami sandwich from Hershel’s!!

Got the pastrami and corned beef, both on rye and one as a reuben and the other as a Rachel. Probably two of the best sandwiches I've ever had. My only real problem was the service on the to-go side. Not really any guidance, got ignored by the guy cutting meat for the sandwiches, then he tried to skip over us, then had to reiterate everything we just ordered from him to the lady at the register again. Not really a customer friendly setup, but the food took the edge off lol

Amazing pastrami! Ordered and egg and cheese on rye, and just before I ordered the cashier offered me a sample of the pastrami. Never had anything like it! Warm, fresh, delicious!

Got the Pastrami Rueben. It was so good. I got my friends hooked on it too! A must-have when you visit Philly. It’s my routine go-to when I visit now.

The food preparation methods at this restaurant are pretty disgusting. Food was bland. No flavor. This establishment doesn’t understand how to make authentic Jewish food.

Latkes were burned on the outside and raw in the middle. Not even edible.

I didn’t realize that pastrami sandwiches on rye could taste like that. It was almost like eating brisket. So delicious!

We visited Hershel’s East Side Deli which was recommended by Somebody Feed Phil. It was one of our favorites among the trip to Philly. They sliced the meat in a sense of urgency, stacked it with huge amount and it looked extremely satisfying. We had a Our Famous Reuben Sandwich, Daily Soup and Salad Platter Sampler. The portion was huge with reasonable price. There are 4 options for Our Famous Reuben Sandwich and we had Corned Beef. It was satisfying when we saw how thick it was and the texture was pretty moist with refreshing pickles.

I can’t say enough about this place. I called them and said I live 30 minutes outside the city and have the flu but only their matzoh ball soup will make me feel better. The manager actually got in the car and drove me out 5 quarts of soup and wouldn’t accept extra money for the delivery. HelpThey have the best soup on the east coast and well worth every penny!
