This is a popular place, and it's not hard to see why. The dining room is cozy, but not crowded. The menu offers a good variety of appetizers, entrees, and maki including old standards and plenty of original specialties. The veggie rolls in particular are worth a try! Service was prompt, responsive, knowledgeable, and personable.

Tried Hokka Hokka for the first time after living in this area for like 8 years and somehow missing it…I need those years back! There is a shortage of good sushi restaurants with a bar in Philadelphia, and especially in this neighborhood (sake and sushi is one of the better combos in my life)The sushi is really good. My only note on food would be the rice seemed a tiny bit hard in texture but I’m seriously splitting hairs here. The service was fine, took some time to get a drink order in at first, but the food was so good I don’t care. Finally, the entry door was propped open, so the foyer puffed cold air with each open… but my friend mentioned that perhaps the fireplace heats too much for it to remain closed. So that is also worth it because the fireplace is a vibe!!!

The waiter was attentive, but appeared to be impatient. It was as if we were seen as repeat guest and should already be familiar with the menu. He seemed perturbed when we weren't moving at his pace. The food, however, was excellent. Nice crowd, but not where you want to go for an elegant date night. Too loud and too casual. If you just want good sushi and a lot of atmosphere, great place to go.Vegetarian options: The fried avocado leaves no room for imagination. It's "literally" cut ? wedges dipped in a batter and fried. No seasoning on the ?. Just cut wedges in a batter, then fried. They were good, if you just like warm ? .

Overpriced. Below average. Side veggies on the Teriyaki chicken were not seasoned at all. Only small amount of rice on the plate. Chicken breast was rather dry, sauce poured over the top, not cooked with the chicken. I make a better teriyaki at home.Parking: Challenging. Small lot with angled spaces, no room to turn around so you have to back out onto the street.

I recently started eating sushi instead of making sushi and tried a few in different states during my trip. The sushi here was good but not the best. I love saba sushi because it tends to be salty and tangy while not being too fishy. This saba was different than I was used to. It was a bit more meaty and not as delicious as I came to be used to but still good. The smoked salmon was good and the shrimp didn't really have much flavor, first time trying shrimp sushi so not sure if that it's how it usually taste. This place is a $2 more expensive for sushi and sashimi. Not the best but more expensive. Worth trying and you deciding.

Good but not great! We tried their special CHIRASHI BOWL, Yaki Vegetable Udon noodles and veggie rolls. Overall the taste and service was good, but nothing special. So I think they are overpriced. The sashimi in the Chirashi Bowl was fresh but lacked flavor. It was as if the ingredients were placed in a bowl and served. They need to add some flavor/spice if this is their ‘special’ plate. Also the veggie rolls were bland. The ambience was nice. The music choice was bad. I prefer eastern instrumental music played in a sushi restaurant, definitely not pop music. They need improvement to deserve the additional star, just 4/5 now.

1st visit for take out, was able to try the lunch specials. This was a great way to experience a new place. I've been to more than 1/2 dz places that sell sushi, sashimi & other Japanese items an have been disappointed over an over again. It really hurts(to eat & pay for) once you have had very good delicious food & service at a reasonable price. To then continue to go to places that serve sub par product. But now I can't wait to come here again to enjoy something else on this extensive menu. Hopefully next time I will get to enjoy the atmosphere while savoring my meal. Good job to staff & the lovely young lady at the front desk who took my order for a job well done. Don't take my word for it ( but you should) stop by yourself & enjoy something delicious & add a review of your own.
