Truly delicious food, garlicky Carolina rice with black eyed peas, flavorful collard greens, soft and well seasoned oxtail. And the most unique cocktails. Great prices too.

Beware of the servers at this restaurant. I went to this restaurant last night and my total came out to $207. I paid the total on my card and I gave the server a tip in cash. Today I got a notice from my bank that I was charged $247 on my card. The server charged my card an additional $40 for tip. I did not write $40 on the merchant receipt. When I called the restaurant the manger was able to see that the server gave herself a $40 tip on my card. He stated that it was an accident which is hard to believe. I will not be returning to this restaurant. The server should be fired! I didn’t receive any type of apology from the restaurant. They made it seem like it was no big deal. I was refunded right away

I've always enjoyed Rex over the years and have to say that this last visit was my least favorite. The new cocktail menu tries too hard to be esoteric while the drinks themselves fell short of being tasty and balanced. My food, while ok, can out barely warm. Service was also off though not horrible.

Just attended a private event- the 40th anniversary celebration for Les Dames d'Escoffier Philadelphia chapter! Jill and her staff were incredible, the atmosphere is magical, the food and beverage-delicious. Rex at the Royal is hospitality at it's finest.

Great spot. Really enjoyable atmosphere in a good location in Philly, very close to other great spots. Food and drinks were delicious! Overpriced cocktails for brunch but that's inflation for you. Excellent service as well, we had a very nice server!

Vegetarian options: Very few vegetarian dishes, but I knew that going in. It's a Southern inspired restaurant with a heavy focus on meat and seafood dishes - ribs, chicken, short rib, crawfish, shrimp, etc. I made it work and was not the least bit disappointed. The service was excellent and the drinks were delicious. The blue cheese stuffed olives in the martini were incredible.

We met Man Friend's college buddies on Saturday night and we had reservations for Rex at the Royal for dinner. The restaurant had a moody 1920's feel. They had a wide selection of cocktails, wine, and beer. We shared a bunch of appetizers - fried green tomatoes, pork belly, crab fondue, braised oxtail, truffle fries, and pimento mac and cheese. The appetizers on their own were a small meal and perfect for sharing. For dinner, we each ordered our own meal but a lot of us ordered the same things - Memphis jerk ribs, pan fried catfish, and smoked short ribs. We all shared a few bites of each dish so we could try everything. My favorite was the smoked short ribs, they were so tender and perfectly seasoned. They paired it with a sweet potato mash and if you didn't like sweet potatoes before, now you do.

This was a great place for Brunch. There were 4 of us and 3 of us had the skillets which were phenomenal. The only hold out was for Chicken and waffles. The atmosphere was good, a little loud but ok.

I was excited to go here as nowhere up north serves okra! Safe to say it was perfectly breaded and fried. They had a great wine menu (I recommend the muscadet!), a romantic vibe, and fantastic seafood. My boyfriend was excited about the ribs, but they honestly were not our favorite as they were a little too sweet. Don’t wear clothes you wouldn’t want getting saucy! They did have wet wipes though, thankfully.
