Went for my birthday. When we made reservations they asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. Let them know it was my birthday. No mention of it anytime during the night. Some food was good. Some was bad. Some was not even how it was shown in the menu (weird). Service was slow (almost non existent) Took 3 hours and never really got through what we wanted to try. Had to leave when they were closing. No sorry for slow service. No attention to us sitting there with no food. Maybe they will get better but really expensive for a not good experience. Almost forgot that when they served us the bill they said there a mandatory surcharge for a party of 4. How is an almost non existent service to a party of four an inconvenience? FAIL!

The service my party of 4 (2 adults, 2 children 9-11 years old) costing 95$ started out strong, but by the 4th round of plates our server had disappeared. He didn't make any attempts to access our table even though all our plates were empty. We sat for 30-40 minutes until I flagged down another waiter to put in our order and cancel an alcoholic drink I ordered. Only some of the order came out, the deserts for the kids while my husband and I didn't get our final orders. Our original waiter brought out our check and wasn't sure if our last food order even went in. He said he'd check and didn't get back to us.If there's a maximum amount of food a table can have, it needs to be clearly stated in the menu, if the servers are too busy to check in at the tables/ bus plates, there should be some system where patrons can continue to order or get the front of house's attention.Kujira has higher quality sushi than sushi bomb, but as it stands they can't keep up with their parties or keep track of orders just yet.Growing pains happen and I do plan on returning one day.Edit:The price mentioned above includes the tip my husband added to the visit, we weren't overcharged at all, we enjoyed kujira, and while this last visit we didn't have as much service towards the end, we still appreciated what was received.

Having been a fan of Sushi Bomb, I was excited to try this place. Service started off strong as we got our first plates of food within 15 minutes. Then, we waited 90 minutes for the rest of our food. We had to track down the waiter and ask them how much longer we had to wait. The waiter simply replied with “oh you never got your food?” Another waitress walks by and even muttered “they’ve been here for 2 hrs already.” Like mam if I am paying $30+ tip, I am gonna stay here until I get what I paid for. Being served 1 roll of sushi while waiting 2 hours is unacceptable. We should have been given a discount at the very least. Will not be returning and will tell my friends to stay away from this place….. many of us were excited to give it a try but we will continue our business at Sushi Bomb.

If you are going for the all you can eat sushi I think it is a fair deal! $27 and the menu is huge! Go hungry! The sushi was tasty and came pretty quickly. I would stick only to the sushi though! The appetizers tasted frozen and the noodle soup had no flavor. The only appetizer we liked was the sexy jalapeños but still just B grade! But the sushi was worth it! Tons of choices! The waiter was great and checked on us multiple times so we didn't feel bad about placing many orders! It is pretty crowded and noisy in there but a fun time!

This is an amazing find! It's definitely worth the visit, I suggest you make the time! It's rare that I find anything that's trendy before the trend is over, lol. I managed to find this little gem on a blog and I'm so excited that I got to experience it before it gets so big that it forgets its roots! It's still tiny, so it's still charming, and it's still got that new restaurant feel but it's been around long enough now that it doesn't have the clunkiness of a brand new place that doesn't know what they're doing. The people that work here are amazing! I can't say enough. We haven't even gotten to the food yet, lmao, and I am already raving! The people who work here are devoted, knowledgeable, and ready to make your experience beyond anything you could imagine. If you've ever wanted to experience a truly unique culinary experience without breaking the bank this is the place to be!Now let's get to the best part, the FOOD!!!I can't say enough. I highly recommend that you get the Tokyo Experience. It's the best value to experience the most of the menu and you're going to get your money's worth. We always convince multiple people to come with us so we can get multiple items on the grill and "share", but let's be honest, it's really good who's going to share, lol!The alcohol menu is great, but if you're looking for non-alcoholic drinks don't expect it to be an extensive selection. They are just not there yet. Give it some time and I'm sure it will get better. At the very least I'm hoping they put some kind of bottled water on the menu.I wouldn't say this is a child friendly restaurant, but we took my grandson who is 14 and he fit in just fine. Granted, I will say he is better behaved than your average teenager. I wouldn't, however, opt to take my other grandchildren who are much younger. This is not a place you want kids running around. While I find the ambience to be quite casual, I have found many people to slightly dress up to business casual when I visited. I'll admit I've been to the restaurant multiple times. I would suggest business casual as the overall suggested attire.Overall, no matter what you order or how long you stay you're going to have a wonderful time and enjoy an amazing experience! Don't forget to save room for dessert! I would recommend the fish... You'll understand when you see the menu.

We have visited three times since we read the review in the Pgh Post Gazette back in January. We have only tried the bottom tier all-you-can eat sushi ($28/person) but found the rolls and sushi offered at this level more than satisfying. Highly recommend the winter and dynamite rolls. By the 3rd visit, their draught system was set up and we enjoyed Lagunitas IPA on tap. We enjoyed the play lists each time we visited. Service seems intentionally slow to keep you from over indulging too quickly so go when you have time to linger. You will not regret it!

We had high hopes for the all you can eat sushi place, but the food didn't quite match up to authentic Japanese cuisine. As examples, shrimp tempura was essentially just fried shrimp, lacking the fineness of tempura. Blue finn tuna wasn't genuine hon-maguro, and Miso soup missed the authentic flavor that we anticipated. The servers were friendly though! Except the long wait for our food to arrive at the table.

We enjoyed the food. And the manager had the nicest smile. Our waitress was not good. Got our order wrong 3 times. And when we told her she brought us the wrong food, she debated with us that the order was correct. We got annoyed after the 3rd time. Won’t go back.Dietary restrictions: My daughter has a peanut allergy. The manager made me feel confident that this would not be an issue. The waitress on the other hand made me feel much less confident. All in all my daughter was able to eat and survived the meal so I am thankful for that.

This is an all you can eat sushi restaurant, but you could order ala carte. There was a good selection of sushi, appetizers, soups and salads. We [4 of us] ordered 8 rolls, 4 appetizers and a number of sushi. Everything was really fresh and the items came out pretty quickly.

If I could rate it a 0 I would. Service was slow, food was mediocre. We didn't finish our food, and then they wanted to charge us $30 for not eating all the food. We will not return.

I could only capture one of the many many plates of sushi/sashimi/rolls we had at shadyside's new all-you-can-eat sushi spot! For only $40, they offer a delicious menu with no limit on ordering or time. I can't list all of the things we ordered, but some standouts were the yellowtail jalapeno appetizer (always great), wagyu beef appetizer (yum!!), dynamite roll (great mix of crunch & spice), & the raw scallop sushi. Honestly, the only disappointment for me was the wagyu sushi, because it was served with SO much wasabi that it overpowered the meat. KuJiRa has a small but decent wine list, although it's a little odd to me that they offer a much larger selection of reds than whites for a sushi spot. They also have a good sake selection for those who are into that! I love that the space that used to be The Yard is now a sushi spot - much more to my taste! They did a good job of redecorating the space so it feels like a new restaurant. There definitely are still some service kinks that need to be worked out given that they are relatively new (for example, there is only one sashimi chef so sashimi orders can get backed up & ours went to the wrong table so we had to wait a long time to get our order). Overall, though, I love this new addition to the Shadyside food scene & I'll definitely be back! Food: A- Drinks: B+ Service: B- Ambiance: B-
