You have to change cooks very quickly... it's still the most important thing in a restaurant...

It has a great location. We didn't order the food, so I cannot comment on that. It was just a regular bar with casual service manner. Beer selection was not that exiting either.

Amazing small over cooked buger with almost nothing it. Shepards pie is just instant spuds with some hamburger and frozen corn sprinkled on top. I will not return.

Meh - cheese board was the worse ive had in my life, the salmon tartare had mayo, the bread was soooo dry, everything was disappointing. A waste.

Being able to snag a table here, or anywhere for that matter, is nothing short of a miracle. It seems like all of North America decided to holiday in Quebec City for the Labor Day weekend! The streets are jammed with cars, people, and cruise ships nearby dumping thousands more on to the quaint alleyways. The restaurant is located off a very steep multi tiered stairway, about two-thirds up from the bottom. We had a table that enabled us to watch all of humanity going up and down the stairs. It was most entertaining... especially those carrying baby strollers, of which there were many.Having an outside spot on the patio with a bistro style type table did not allow for much space, but we made it work. The menu is fairly abbreviated, yet it covers enough ground to satisfy most, with appetizers, salads, burgers, and entrees.I chose the pork ribs with fries, coleslaw, and a slice of pickle. At $30. CAD (approx. $22 US). The portion was just right, and the ribs were succulent and fell off the bone, easy to eat. The sauce was just right. The fries were good, and the slaw was tasty.I had a Boreal beer, blanche, that came with an orange wedge. It was quite good. Our server was very personable and did an excellent job throughout the meal.I wouldn't consider this place a high-end eating establishment, but it's good competent food at a fair price in a tourist area.

The server was extremely accommodating for our menu change requests. We liked the quiet and cave like atmosphere of the inside dining room. And the food was excellent. We had the salmon filet and the pâté chinois.

The food is okay but definitely overpriced and isn't that fresh. Although the place is pretty.

Cozy spot at the top of escalier casse-cou looking down on rue de pétit-champlain. Great people-watching spot.

I happened upon this place shortly before noon and there was no one on the balcony. In five minutes all the tables were filled. The menu is short and manageable. The poutine is very good and filling.

Old fashion tasted like water, not even half full. Asked for an other, tasted the same. You can find way better drinks anywhere else.

Food was fine. Service was absolutely terrible.

I went here with my mother and aunt for a bite to eat. I wish I had something positive to say about the place; however, I don't. The only positive is the location and the service. The food is substandard for the tourist area in which it is located. If it weren't for tourists this place would be struggling to stay afloat. My mother and aunt ordered the seafood plater, and I the Wagyu burger. The lettuce of the salad was wilted, a little slimy and some of the edges were brown. It was as if they had mixed old with new lettuce. This was only visible after removing the top layer of the salad. As someone with previous experience working in the food industry, this is a common practice performed by food establishments who put profit before quality. Luckily, for Le Repaire, I was not a health inspector! The wagyu burger was excellent; however, the patty of the burger was not intact. A large enough piece of the patty had broken off during cooking. So not much attention was paid towards presentation. I expect a wagyu patty to be intact. This is not McDonalds. The fries in all of our plates were not fully cooked, raw on the inside, and were not eatable. I only ate the burger. Total cost with tip, $40.The seafood platers were horrible. The shrimp and scallops tasted rancid, as if the grill they were cooked on had not been properly cleaned. Or it could have also been the cleaner used on the grills that was not rinsed off properly after cleaning. The mussels were cooked in a curry sauce, which my mother found to taste terrible. When ordering, she was not told there were different options of sauces. She nor my aunt were able to eat their platers. My aunt ate less than 10% of her plater. Both paid over $60 with tip for meals they didn't eat. The utensils I had were also not clean enough to pass a health inspection. There were pieces of dried food baked onto my knife. But I can let that slide because it does happened in odd circumstances due to dishwashers. The waiter was a good guy but he tried to gaslight us about the quality of the food, as if we didn't know what we were talking about. My mother worked as a chef for over 20 years! My mother and aunt both grew up on the Basse-Côte-Nord. They know their seafood!!! He also thought we were from somewhere outside of Quebec. He tried telling us that in Quebec people like their fries cooked that way. When we informed him we were from Sherbrooke he changed his story. He said that he would inform the cook about it. We never contested against paying for our meals. We politely requested the bill, paid it with tip, and walked away.I think this place has a low review on Google because maybe they're too stubborn to admit that they have some issues they need to work on in order to improve themselves. I would advise paying more and hire an experienced chef who will be strict with their staff. It takes more than presentation on a plate for food to be "good quality." You have the location, now shine and make yourself the best place to eat in Old Quebec.
