The best sourdough bread and sweets we have found in ATL

I almost cursed... Yeah, I'm gonna do it. Damn that was good! Look, I love a good corn cookie. It's like my second favorite of ALL cookies. I also love a good sando. In terms of all food inventions, sando's are pretty high up on my list. Just saying... Well this place does a truly excellent corn cookie... and, AND a truly excellent sando- in this case, sausage and egg on a buttery croissant. Put them together and what do you get... well, 5-stars. At least from me, anyways. Truly excellent!

This little bake shop is tucked in a back corner of ponce and is so worth a visit! My fiancé and I were hanging around ponce city market on Saturday and were looking for a tasty treat to take home. We stumbled on this place and knew we had to get something! It was around 1pm and they still had a good bit of stuff left. The pecan almond croissant almost lured me in, but the crumb cake stole my attention when the guy behind the counter told me that the crumb had tahini in it! I love something that's different so I knew I had to get it. We got two slices to go. Not cheap but worth it! They cake was delicious! The tahini was subtle but complemented the cake so well! A good spot to grab a pastry while at ponce!

Things to know:The times listed on Google maps and on the business website are incorrect. This place is not open 9am-2pm Mon-Fri. It’s Tuesday a little before 11am and they’re not open and show no signs that they’re even gonna be open today. People are walking up to peer inside and walking away disappointed. That’s $$ walking away because y’all have incorrect hours on your sites. There is no menu available on Google or the business website currently. I’ve found one menu for building an egg sandwich, so maybe they only sell build-your-own egg sandwiches now. They are not responsive on social or by email. I had a 30 minute walk to get here today and had a bunch of questions that I hoped would save me the trip (especially if they weren’t open). No responses at all to any inquiries on Insta or via email.I would have liked to eat here today but will wait for one of the other Ponce Market businesses to open instead. Please update your business hours to reflect current operating hours. I’m sure locals know when you’re open already, but it might help you to get more business if people can plan to visit. Not trying to be mean, just disappointed.

The baked goods are delicious, but if you want an egg sandwich prepare to pay $15 to wait 45 minutes for a sandwich that might be what you ordered.

Things you should know:I. LOCATIONWithin Ponce City Market, on the second level of shops.II. SERVICENo complaintsIII. QUALITYFresh & delicious. The ginger molasses cookie we bought had a crisped outer edge and gooey center; perfection. The coffee, on the other hand, well... This is a bakery and not a coffee shop. So, don't expect their coffee to be the spotlight with selections and options. It is, however, a nice pairing to their pastries.IV. CAPACITYThere was a small line with a quick wait time for a Saturday, early noon. There's no seating within the shop, so don't expect to come here looking for a nice sit-down experience. You'll have to go out into the common area / shared space of the entire Ponce City Market.

Morning rolls are really good.

Sad they had to downsize their shop but they did not downsize in flavor and quality. The croissant sandwiches are a huge winner and all their baked sweets are impeccable. My favorite is the morning bun. Think your childhood cinnamon sugar bread but flaky and butterier than you can imagine. It was a spiritual experience eating it.

5 stars for a solid little bakery. When it comes to good bread, I'm willing to look pretty far to find it. Lots of places (cough cough Europe) say they have good bread, but they often underwhelm. After getting back from a trip to Europe this weekend, I decided to give Root Baking a look to see if it could fill my bread needs. Located in the Ponce City Market, I've heard several ppl rave about Root Baking having bread offered at the nearby Whole Foods, as well as being listed on the Atlanta Top 75. There are actually 2 sections to the venue, one part for ordering baked goods and one for things like pizza I believe. I stopped at the little baked goods area and was greeted by a friendly guy. I ordered the Pain Au Chocolate and a build your own breakfast sandwich. The cost was about $18, which seemed kind of high but worth it if the bread was good. I sat and ate the Pain while waiting for the sandwich, and man did it live up to the hype the croissant was great and the chocolate awesome. I was going to take my sandwich (biscuit, egg patty, cheddar, and ham) into the office to do some work, but I retrieved it and just sat down to give it a try. The entire sandwich smelled amazing, tasted good, and was just a happy experience. Overall, Root Baking provided me a great start to my day. While the prices aren't for the faint of heart, the delicious bread and ingredients make this spot worth the time and money.

LOVED the morning bun here. Sweet vibes too.

Cute little outpost for an artisan bakery. They clearly know what theyre doing because all the product looks perfect. Egg sandwiches were absolutely delicious and well seasoned but wayy too small... also wish they served a proper coffee offering instead of a latte in a can.

Honestly really bummed out I just spent $17 on a biscuit. No menu to show prices in store or on their website and when you think biscuit you don't think $17. I got egg, cheese, and chicken sausage....while it was good it was not worth $17. Update: someone from Root City reached out regarding their menu being redesigned- so hopefully they'll have on in store soon, but the biscuit alone being less than palm size is unfortunately still not worth the hefty price tag.

Best grit bowl ever!! I believe the radishes were fermented...? So good. The combination of everything (arugula, radishes, fennel?) with the sooo creamy grits, soft boiled egg, cheese - speaking my language!! ?My corn cookie was also amazing. Currently searching for radish and cookie recipes :D

Absolutely phenomenal breakfast sandwich. One of the best I’ve had - hands down. Hard roll, egg, cheddar and chicken sausage.
