Last night my Mother, Daughter, & I went to dine in at Poogan's and let me state how this place Exceeded our Expectations from the cleanliness, décor, & quiet atmosphere !! We were welcomed & greeted by Tara whom made the BEST drinks & was very kind. Once seated, our waiter; Jalen assisted us and provided us with many suggestions all while waiting patiently as we decided. Jalen knowledge of the menu and level of service was Exceptional. As for the food; Every bite was delicious. We all enjoyed every bite. We would definitely return!!! Oh! Between us three; we had the Fried Chicken Dinner, Chicken & Waffle Meal, & A Salad... Outstanding!!! Thank You All~ Tierra

We needed Southern cooking for our first meal in Columbia, South Carolina. We opted for a familiar name that was close to our Airbnb. We love Poogan’s Porch in Charleston, so thought that this was a reliable bet. It was, for the most part. We started with a bloody Mary that we turned into a Michelada. Then, a cup of she crab soup, fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese, a fried chicken platter, biscuits, coleslaw, and collard greens. We ordered the white meat fried chicken plate, but they were very willing to substitute a thigh for the drumstick. That way my partner and I got our favorite pieces. I probably wouldn’t order the blue crab dip again. It was pretty average. Just a cheese dip flavored with crab. I also probably wouldn’t order the Bloody Mary again. They have an elaborate 18 spices (I think). They are very proud of that mix. However, it appears they have trouble with the balance of spices because they are so dense that if a bartender doesn’t shake it EVERY time, they pour off the liquid mix and let all the solid particles sink to the bottom meaning even if they shake it the next time, now the ratio of spices is off. It was really overwhelming. So much so that we decided to try to dilute it by creating a Michelada and cutting it with beer. It was still a misfire. If you do order the Bloody Mary, be sure to suggest they ask the bartender to shake the mix well before pouring.

From start to finish this place was disappointing. Parking was terrible. The host didn't give a child's menu for our 2yo, or silverware service. Had to ask the server for it .....once we actually got some service. 2 drinks were good but nothing spectacular. App came out decent and hot....but that was where it all stopped. We had to ask the server a second time for silverware, and she often disappeared. They weren't busy at 2pm on a Saturday, and our food took FOREVER. By the time we got it, it was luke warm at best. My son's waffle had gotten hard from cooling off and my husband's chicken was soggy. My husband ordered hot honey with his ck and waffles....got generic buffalo sauce instead. The chicken was soggy from sitting, and waffle was luke warm, and the berries had bad spots on them. My chop salad.....wasn't chopped. The avocado was turning brown and had a couple bad black spots. The chicken on it was bland and dry. And was definitely NOT worth the money for about $3 worth of produce. I sent it back without replacement, and sent my son's waffle back for something actually warm. Not a single time did we get refills on our water nor did the server ask if we wanted more drinks. We will NOT be back. Certainly was not worth $60 for 2 drinks, 1 entree, and 1 kids meal.

This is a nice place to go for some really good southern food. The Porch Shrimp and Grits are definitely a must! The she-crab soup is also really good. It's flavorful with lots of crab.

The food was great, except my eggs. I don’t love powdered egg because of the texture and taste. I specifically asked for shelled eggs and still received powdered eggs. The drinks were great and the food was great too. I had the bow-wow shrimp for appetizer and it was great. The brioche French toast was my main entree and that was okay. The service was great but we were also one of the firsts in the restaurant after opening so it wasn’t too busy.Overall, it was great but I don’t know that I’ll be returning. The price point was a bit much for me for basic service without a crowd. Great one time experience nonetheless.

Had an 11:00 AM reservation, not that it was needed, the brunch crowd was sparse. Sat and waited 20 minutes with zero service or even acknowledgment. Walked out and will not return. I see why there was minimal people dining there!

Certainly! Below is a draft of a Google review for Poogan's Southern Kitchen, capturing your experience:---**Review for Poogan's Southern Kitchen**⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 stars)We recently dined at Poogan's Southern Kitchen and had a mixed but largely positive experience. First off, the food was absolutely delicious, with generous portions that left us more than satisfied. The staff was friendly and provided courteous service, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. Impressively, despite being a large group of 7, we were seated with minimal wait time, which was a pleasant surprise. However, our visit did come with a notable concern. Upon arrival, we were informed that our party would have to split into two different booths, each with a separate server, and that we would receive one check per grouping. Understanding the constraints, we agreed to this arrangement. Unfortunately, this setup meant we weren't able to actively engage with half of our party during the meal, which detracted from the group dining experience we were looking forward to.Adding to our disappointment, both groups were charged a large party fee on our respective checks. This was surprising and a bit frustrating, considering we were effectively separated into smaller parties with different servers, on opposite sides. It seemed incongruent with the reasoning behind a large party fee, given the division. In summary, while the food and service at Poogan's Southern Kitchen are commendable, the handling of our large group and the unexpected charges left a bittersweet taste. We hope that feedback like ours will encourage a reevaluation of policies regarding large groups, ensuring future diners can enjoy their meals to the fullest, regardless of party size.---Feel free to adjust the rating or any part of the review to better reflect your experience.

This is truly disappointing. It is probably the most mid food I have ever had, and given the fact that the service and atmosphere was great I am truly at a loss. Very chill environment and comfortable and clean restrooms. The problem comes in when you get to the quality of the food and price. The presentation of the food was great but flavor is king and this food's flavor wasn't even at the table. The positive though was that they did do some things well. However, given what they were lacking and the prices after the fact, it wasn't worth it. Two Arnold Palmers came out to $11 dollars, and the appetizer of catfish nuggets was $12. The two meals fried chicken sandwich was $15, and a four piece chicken was $19 dollars and not a stitch of seasoning enough to make these prices worth it! Then you add in tax and tip AND a 2.85% surcharge on credit cards...look there are a dozen different restaurants near them with better tasting food and at fraction of the cost. Do yourself a favor and try them first.

While there is room for improvement- the wait for food was a bit long for a mostly-empty place (though I think that was part of the reason). The calamari was proooobably the remnants of what they had on hand without prepping new, being that the squid bits were small enough they were overpowered by the breading, it was still plenty tasty. The entrees were great, and honestly huge portions. The shrimp and grits were amazing, with a generous amount of perfectly-cooked shrimp. The Hot Chicken Sandwich was just spicy enough, with a lovely touch of sweetness. The service was lovely, and we were neither abandoned nor harassed.I look forward to taking some folks there for brunch soon, as I have a feeling that some of those dishes will really push them over the top.
