It's an attractive and pleasantly staffed bar. Check out the routing on the supports for the shelves. I highly recommend for a drink and pleasant conversation to pass the time. Good people and good drinks. I had quite a few so I've probably skewed the average price up. I'll definitely be back. Owner has a great handshake.

Bless their hearts. Trying so very hard to be boogie and “enlightened”. All you’ll be is buzzed and broke. Very expensive cocktails. Not terrible cocktails but so not worth it. Food was meh. Won’t go back.

Columbia is a great place to hang out and American Barrel is a unique little spot. The bartender was impressed at my Scotch choice, probably because most patrons couldn't tell a decent Whisky from a Carrie Underwood song. Ok yeah I'm a bit of a Whisky snob. The food is more bar style appetizers, but it's pretty good as an accompaniment. Not a place to plan a meal but definitely a place to go after and enjoy a good dram or cocktail. Also, the location in the increasingly trendy square sets it a part from some of Columbia's other drinking holes and gives it more of a classic vibe. Recommended!

We went here last night with another couple. Atmosphere is nice, and the cocktails were good. The food was a different matter. While it was all presented beautifully, they completely missed the mark. Creamy feta and burrata were cold. The waitress asked how everything was, but obviously didn't want to hear the truth. I told her it would have been much better if the cheese dishes were at room temperature. She smiled uncomfortably, and refused to look at me. Then she gave me some assanign response that it's hard to do that when serving this many people. Seriously? You can't make your best guess on how many cheese plates to bring to room temperature every hour? The guacamole was more like Pico de Gallo, and the butter board was just weird. The only one my group liked was the regular butter. They also seem to have an issue with providing enough baguette slices. Disapointing.
Such a cool place with 1920s speakeasy vibes.Great staff and drinks.
