“Visited the franchise location in downtown Austin, TX in November 2023 and the Marietta location in Georgia during the summer of 2023.After I read the story, I needed to visit the original location! As a culinary journalist, these are my favorite types of restaurants to document, I love a mom and pop generational establishment.It was a pleasure to meet the granddaughter of the original owners, Gus and Gertrude. She was pleasant and helpful in picking the perfect meal for our family.We went with the 8pc family meal - came with 2 breast, 2 wings. 2 thighs and 2 drumsticks with baked beans, cole slaw and fried green tomatoes.She forewarned us that the flavors are not the same as the franchise flavors. I was a bit scared as I highly enjoyed what I had in Austin. It was such a happy surprise that the chicken here was even better! The skin is much spicier, and the meat was just as juicy.The cole slaw was my favorite side, with the baked beans following and the fried green tomatoes coming in 3rd place.If you enjoy fried chicken, I would definitely recommend a stop at this tried and true TN state staple! Worth the drive and 20min + wait for this legendary chicken!”

“We love Sling Shot Charlie’s! So DELICIOUS!! I had the catfish fillet, purple hull peas, and onion rings. The onion rings? Melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness! Purple hull peas? Just like my grandmother’s! Yummy! Catfish fillet? Perfection! Only thing I didn’t care for were the hush puppies. They just didn’t have any flavor. They were big and well cooked. Others in our group had the pork tenderloin and said it was tender, juicy, flavorful, and delicious. The Mac and cheese were very cheesy too. (My BIL and SIL loved them.)Kid-friendliness: Lots of kids and kid friendly menu items.”

“My wife and I had been in Memphis for a long weekend with family. And we were heading back to Michigan on Wednesday and stopped there for a coffee and a sandwich to go. We both had a cappuccino which was delicious. My wife ordered a burrito and I ordered the sausage egg and cheese on croissant. The burrito was so big and delicious that we both shared it and brought the croissant home and I just ate it for dinner on Thursday and it heated up beautifully and was very delicious.Great staff and great atmosphere.”

“Absolutely great food, servers were attentive at removing plates and filling drinks but otherwise kept distance and were quick to respond if needed. Kitchen staff were very attentive to the buffet bars and had replacement trays up fast. I also appreciated their attention to limiting food waste by encouraging smaller portions and multiple visits to the buffet, as well as utilizing smaller food trays on the buffet. This resulted in the food being fresher and tasting better than all other buffet restaurants. I would highly recommend this restaurant.”

“My wife hates Waffle House because it's usually so dirty behind the counter, so I've actually never been to a waffle house with her in the 10 years we've been married. We just moved to the area and she saw this one while browsing the Internet for breakfast places and she was impressed with how nice it looked from the outside rather than looking like the generic waffle house in a 50 year old building. So we went and she was impressed with the cleanliness of this establishment and the customer service was great.”
