Stopped by with my bride about 2 Saturdays ago for lunch. A Meat & 3 we wanted to try. To my surprise, mostly a full menu even on the weekend. Out of white beans, but those take time to recook for the day. The staff was friendly, helpful, and pointed us to the cooked to order fried chicken and fried catfish. Leaving diets behind we both opted for the fried catfish. Appropriate to add that we both grew up West of the Mississippi River and have been looking for good catfish that could rival that from the White and Saline rivers in Arkansas for almost 30 years. There have been a few good, some passable but didn't last. This is the real deal. Ambiance is not all that great, but the food makes up for it. It is in an old Krystal's and can be difficult to get in the parking lot. But hey this is a food review, so let me get back to the sides. Real veggies, cabbage, greens, green beans, black eyed peas. They also have the Carbo rich sides, mac&cheese, mashed potatoes, pinto and white beans. Guilty about the diet, I stayed with the veggies. Bride said that the mashed were really good and not box. A really good hot water cornbread, but hush puppies would be nice. If you get close to downtown and the square, they are on Broad. You won't be sorry that you checked them out. They do have a very good looking baked chicken I am going to try when the diet wins out again.

We went here on a Sunday afternoon a lot of the sides were not available they told us it would be 20 minutes before sides will be available so we got other sides that they did have available turns out our food took 25 minutes to come out so we could have gotten the sides we wanted because after we got our food they had all the sides we asked for. Do not recommend the meat loaf but the chicken was pretty good along with the black eyed peas

Yall today was my first time trying this place. And hands down it was the best! Not gonna lie I was skeptical because sometimes you just never know. I had a hard time choosing which meat to choose because they all looked very good. I went with the rib tips am thankful they were good right along with the Mac n cheese (baked perfectly and still creamy) and green beans! Cornbread muffins were good.

Food was cooked properly, chicken was juicy but I feel it needs to flavor. Mac and cheese was bland and cornbread was beautiful but needs some salt and a tad of sugar. They definitely need to clean in there. Salt shakers as well as trash box area needs to be wiped down. I doubt I would go back.Vegetarian options: Cabbage, turnip greens, pinto beans, mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, and fried okra

Imma tell my sista

It’s a cool vibe. Live music and flowered walls. I would strongly advise you sticking to their crowd picks…wings, pasta, catfish., etcBecause the pinto beans and cabbage ????????the “Soul” has to be based on aesthetics definitely not the
