This is a great option for plant based meals!! I had the lasagna and tasted the cowboy burger, both were very good!! Enjoyed a nice Cab too, overall great place!

Delicious food - a special treat for vegans! We had a flight of IPAs which was also yummy. Desserts were excellent.

Love this cozy bar and restaurant. A nice menu with a variety of meat free options. Their Harvest Kale salad is so good. Tap beer list has a wide array of options. Good IPAs!

I've been putting off this review for awhile, as I was hoping the restaurant would be able to bounce back. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened yet so I wanted to share a few thoughts. The Beer Plant was my absolute favorite spot when I first moved to Austin. It was my go-to for celebrations, and for introducing non-vegan friends and family to great plant-based food. A lot of vegan establishments tend to be pretty casual, so we always cherished the difference in atmosphere here. Something started to shift throughout the last year or two, and it hasn't quite been the same since. I am not sure what exactly went wrong, but the menu changed drastically and quality and consistency decreased with it. We were hoping that it was just temporary setbacks or growing pains, but started to hear chatter from others with the same experiences. We were confused by the Tellus Joe opening and subsequent closing, and it felt like there was a lot of friction going on behind the scenes. We appreciated the creativity with some of the new dishes, but felt disappointed that many of the classics and former charm was gone. One of our favorite menu items in particular was the seitan, which was the best we'd ever had, but the recipe changed completely. I love supporting local vegan and plant-based businesses, so it hurts to write this review. We are hoping it can still find its rhythm again, but haven't been nearly as much as we used to. Rooting for this team!

I am beyond grateful that this restaurant exists and I've been at least a dozen times over the years. Here are my thoughts: 1) The interior is beautiful and moody in the best way, but it is always deafeningly loud, so much that I'm sure some people eat here once and never return simply bc of the noise. 2) Service has always been A or A+ in my opinion. 3) The food is OK or good, but often not great. I love that some of the dishes are pretty creative (like blue oyster burger and hearts of palm crab cakes), but there is nearly always too much emphasis on the fat and less attention to acing the texture and flavor. Like, the experience of eating isn't entirely pleasurable. First bite good and then it's quickly too much if that makes sense. And, don't get me wrong, I love fatty foods, but I definitely think there's room for improvement with the two mushroom dishes. Also, I ordered the eggplant parmesan last night and, dear Lord, it was so salty I could only eat about half. I used the rest to spread on top of bread for lunch today and it was still a bit much. Overall, The Beer Plant has tremendous potential, but I think needs to figure out a way to reduce the noise, the salt, and experiment a bit more with the dishes (maybe do a trial run with friends and family first?). I hope this feedback helps. I do love the restaurant and want it to succeed!

The Brussel sprouts were amazingly good with an exceptional sauce but the Cowboy burger was a complete disappointment and I guarantee you, no cowboy would have eaten it, so deceptively misnamed. It was a thin, juiceless, tasteless patty that was even hard all the way around the edge. I'm a no-exception vegan so we need places like the Beer Plant but beware, I did not like nor do not recommend the so-named Cowboy burger. PS - there was a group of maybe eight who were laughing and so loud you had to shout to speak to the person on the opposite side of the table with you.

Just okay for $14 - $18 a plate. They were out of several items on a Friday night so our experience might have been different if we could have tried the burgers or grilled cheese. Our waiter wasn’t attentive and it took 30 minutes to get an appetizer, 50 minutes to get an entree. Everything tasted good but you’re expecting a lot more for the price. A textbook underwhelming experience.

The best vegan food I've had in Austin, also some truly memorable cocktails. Loved everything.

Tried the cauliflower wings and Harissa Beets hummus which were both top-notch! Good value for the price too and our server, Christopher was very friendly and kind enough to explain any allergies and what exactly the dish was made. Can’t wait to come back again and try the mains! My only advice would be to slightly improve the decor of the place. The seats are a bit uncomfortable and the lighting is a bit dull but that’s a personal preference anyway.

We came, we saw, we waited....and waited and waited and waited but the server was too interested in flirting with every girl in the restaurant. Well, 30 minutes later of waiting to have our order taken and we decided to leave instead.

After the horrible affront a while back of being served a Caesar salad with KALE (gak!) instead of romaine lettuce, I waited a few months before I tried it again, hoping they had come to their senses. But no, there's still KALE in the Caesar salad. Dried up and dumped on top, forcing customers to pick it out. And just as bad, TINY SOGGY BREAD CRUMBS in place of croutons! Ray's Beer Plant is CHEAP. They won't even spring for freakin' CROUTONS in a d*mn Caesar salad. It's pretty hard to screw up something as simple as a Caesar salad, yet here we are. Ray cares more about his snazzy soundtrack playlist and snobbish "ambiance" than what comes out of their kitchen. DO NOT EAT THERE!!!

The service was great! But unfortunately the food was not. I really wanted to like this place but the food was cold and didn’t taste too good. I had the Mac and cheese and it tasted like cigarette smoke. My husband didn’t like his food either. They need more options that don’t have mushrooms in it.
