“This place was so charming--the couple who run it were so delightful! The food was also great--after several days of indulging in Texas bbq, our California stomachs were ready for something light and fresh. The strawberry salad with feta and almonds was delicious, and I loved the vinaigrette--it was the homemade version of what that weird red "French dressing" that I hated as a kid was apparently trying to be! So good! The lettuce wraps with chicken salad and bacon were also fantastic, as was the creamy Italian sausage soup. Endless amounts of iced tea rounded everything out, and I was sad we didn't have time to try the crepes. If I ever find myself in Ballinger, TX again I will definitely be back!”

“this is a great review even though it doesn't make sense to us -- we went in for lunch - we recently moved from Arizona- hubby had a taco plate with red enchilada- I searched for some Chili Verde or Carnitas seems not to exist in Ballinger - so i opted for the special and Chalupas- at least i thought i knew what they were - NO NO - they are Tostadas- what the hell - they were awesome and so welcome !! at check out I mentioned that a Chalupa in Arizona is not a Tostada- she laughed and said go to san antonio- nothing makes sense!!! i just want a restaurant here to make pork chili verde or pork carnitas - hell I will teach!!! but”

We came with a friend who said the restaurant has been through generations of their family and their steak beef fajita quesadillas looked delicious. I had the Mexican dinner and my husband had the Millie’s special. Everything was delicious and prices were very reasonable.”

Lord have mercy, whoever put the new management in place or the new workers, good job! This was the best meal I've had come out of that building yet! “I have been going to Lowake Steakhouse for over 50 years. The steaks have always been great until I ordered a 20oz ribeye. Of the 20oz and good 1/3 or more way fat- not just one the ends but throughout. Talked with the manager on duty and he said they don’t trip the ends on ribeyes. So I don’t recommend ribeyes but the tenderloins and filets are always good.”
“We had our first bad experience at Rangel’s today and, will not be back. It seems like the employees there are only after a paycheck and do not seem to care about the actual job they have. Our total bill for me and my 2 kids was $53 ($5 tip included). The food was nothing more than a frozen Banquet dinner it seemed like. My green enchiladas had a artificial looking green sauce on top and it was poured on top of enchiladas that had been frozen and not thawed all the way. My daughter’s chicken strips were not breaded fully and her French fries were over cooked. She couldn’t even eat the gravy. While the waitress was taking our order, she told us to wait in the process to run and deliver someone else’s meals to their table. We sat patiently and waited for her to come back and finish taking our order. There were only 3 other customers in the restaurant when we arrived. Every table was dirty. The one we finally found to sit at was so sticky that our napkins stuck to the table. I’m not sure who owns this restaurant but, they need to know how it is being operated.”
