Comfort food doesn’t get any better than this! My husband has tried everything on the menu (all good) but I stick with the fried chicken because it’s moist but never greasy! Add the mac and cheese and- YUM!!! The only things as good as the food are the personal service and the delicious desserts! So very glad that they opened in Bastrop!

Y'all need to have Ham Bonz at the top of your list. It is AMAZING! We went for an early Sunday supper and were pleasantly surprised to find that it was gospel Sunday! Great live pianist/vocalist singing so well even an atheist would tap their toes. I got the fried chicken with 3 sides - greens, yams, and mac n cheese. Honestly choosing just 3 was one of the hardest decisions of my entire life (so I'll be going back again very soon). I did steal some mashed potatoes from my husband, which are only available on Sunday and they are worth waiting all week for. But the star is THE FRIED CHICKEN I don't know what kind of magical process goes into creating a crispy thin skin with so much integrity...it is phenomenal. No skin sliding off, perfectly cooked, and no heating lamps here. Do yourself a favor and eat here ASAP. Waitstaff is attentive and super nice - we had a lovely meal!

I recently had a lot of family in town and we were looking for some good take-out in Bastrop. I stumbled on this place via google and decided to give it a try. I am SO happy I did! The food was amazing! The location is ten minutes from my home and we decided to go in and place the order due to us ordering 8 entrees. When we got there we had a warm greeting, we placed our large order, the order was read back to us and we were informed there would be a 15 minute ish wait because the chicken was being fried fresh. EVERYONE loved their food! by the time we drove home everyone's food was still nice and hot! it was packaged up by individual entrees and it was amazing! The chicken was seasoned and fresh, cube steak was hot and tender, the meatloaf was full of flavor. All the sides I had were great! Mac and Cheese, yams, green beans, greens, and rice with gravy. I WILL be going back to try more things on the menu! You have to eat here!

The smothered "poke" chops were pure comfort food, especially with the macaroni and cheese, and the green beans. Peach cobbler was just the way I like it. I also enjoyed visiting with the owner, and look forward to trying the Sunday specials.

We order just about everything on their menu to go Saturday afternoon!!! Hands down the best southern soul food I've had in a long time! Wish I had heard about this hidden gem sooner! We will be back soon!!!

Food was amazing. Collard greens were not only the best collard greens I've ever had, they were one of the best things I've ever eaten. I ate mine & my daughter's. Even my granddaughter liked them. Fried chicken was fantastic, especially the thighs. Mac n cheese was delicious. We met Marsha, the owner. She made us feel at home. They are new & trying to build & monitor their business, which is very tough for a new restaurant. Keep that in mind. I live in the Lake Conroe area & will happily make the drive back to eat here again. Did I mention how good the collard greens are?

A few things were excellent: collard greens, peach cobbler and the "southern smoothered" gravy. I'll come again to try the yams as a side. And they only provide one small cornbread muffin, but it's very tastey. The pork chop was prepared well, but it's hard to remove gristly edges when it's all buried under the gravy. It could have been a better cut of meat, and that would have helped. There are certainly nicer porkchops available for purchase at Costco (and even HEB) if they want to upgrade the quality of ingredients. There are limited beverage options. They were out of coffee so I had unsweet tea, which was nice. The staff seemed to have something unusual going on. Maybe someone hadn't shown up for their shift or maybe they were training someone. But from greeting to seating to taking my order to checkout, it was just awkward. I don't expect it's normally that way. Lunch special was $12.99. Other meals were in the $20+ range. White meat chicken isn't available on the lunch menu, only dark. But even on the regular menu, it's dark meat only unless you pay a $4.95 upgrade. So basically, this creates a large (2X) price between different variations on a fried chicken meal, which fine, I guess, but for me, it's a strange pricing strategy that I haven't seen anywhere else. But mostly, to me, it feels like I'm eating in a city rec center with a staff of community volunteers. Friendly enough, and tasty enough, but not quite restauranty enough. I haven't given up on it, but I'm not quite sold yet. Wishing them well. I like having a soul food restaurant in town.
