My wife and I went for the second time recently. On our first visit, we weren't all that pleased. This time we went for dinner and the food was absolutely delicious. I had the shrimp and grits, and it was excellent. My wife had the pan sautéed catfish, which she enjoyed as did I when she gave me a bite. Food was just terrific! The service was very good. Our only complaint was that they had someone playing music in a relatively small room. We had met a friend there and wanted to visit, but it was hard to carry on a conversation.

On 02/11/23 at 4:00 in the afternoon my wife and I went to Gumbos for a bite to eat. The visit started bad as we entered the building there were two ladies at the door and we said we would like a table for two. They said they would be right with us as they continued writing on some cards. After a minute or two one finally quit writing and escorted us upstairs. We were seated and a waitress brought us water and menus. We sat and for the waitress to return. After about ten minutes I grew tired of waiting on the waitress who was sitting at the bar texting on her phone. I stepped to the bar and told the waitress that we were ready to order. We placed our orders and waited. When our order of two cups of seafood Gumbos and a salad was wrong. The waitress said that she told the cook Seafood Gumbos and ours was just sausage. When the order came back it had two little crawfish tails in each cup. Meanwhile, the table next to us was complaining about their bar drinks tasting bad, and went to the bar with their drinks to have them remade. I refused to pay for my cup of Gumbo and it was removed from the ticket. Either the staff was poorly trained or the management doesn't care!

Enjoyed a happy hour here on a Tuesday evening. We had to go upstairs to the bar because the dining area was not open yet. For mobility challenged there is an elevator to help you avoid the stairs. The interior is charming. We ordered appetizers like the popcorn shrimp, crab cakes and the calamari. All were generous portions and tasty. My entree was the Caesar salad with pecan crusted chicken breast, another guest had the poor boy sandwich platter, another the blackened catfish plate. Overall, we were pleased with the quality and taste of our food. The cocktails were tasty as well. My main concern was the service was spotty. The server had to repeatedly ask who had ordered what food, and it was quite a while getting our checks to us at the end of the evening. FYI parking on the street in Georgetown is often a challenge. We felt that prices were somewhat higher than average. We enjoyed the free entertainment, a very talented harpist.Parking: Busy Georgetown square area means challenge.

Over priced and small portions. They put a 25% service charge on the bill and still expect a tip. Slow service, as well.

Had a so so experience before but wanted to give it another chance on Dec. 10. A friend from Gtown told me it's known the restaurant was shut down in Sept by the health dept. (posted on a forum). I still wanted to give it a try. Big Mistake! I made the reservation with owner. When I arrived, they couldn't find it (same thing happened last time). So I argued with the hostess bc we had driven an hour. She said ok as long as we didn't stay long - so I told her since we had a kiddo with us we won't. We ordered the crawfish etouffee and fish. I hurt my tooth on the etouffee's rice and told the waitress who seemed drunk or drugged (mumbling and shaky). She said "I know. The microwave is broken." Why are they using a microwave for rice? Then she brought dirty rice but mixed the hard old grains of white rice in there! I had to spit it out. My husband had dirty rice on his plate and had to spit out his too. When we paid the $75 bill, she lost our credit card after charging it. Looked in the billfolds and couldn't find them. I called the owner the next day and she found the card in the back. She said she mailed it to me that Tuesday. She also said she placed a partial credit for the experience on my credit card. I confirmed and she had the correct credit card and mailing address. It's been 12 full days and no partial credit was issued and my credit card still isn't here. I'm getting all of my mail and it took 2 days for a card from Jarrell to get here this week, so that's not the issue. I then contacted Williamson County Health Dept. for a copy of the report to see it bc I didn't know if the shut down was a rumor. Sure enough, they provided the full report for open records request - portions attached here. Shut down due to "imminent health danger" for dead and live cockroach infestation and food at bad temperatures. I asked the owner and she threatened me to "be very careful" in text that I should not share the information. Horrible night and really feel bad I begged my husband to give it another try. Next time, I'll listen to people and look at reports if a restaurant was shut down immediately - or better yet, stay away.

Heard good things about this place, the atmosphere was nice and in a cute historical building. However it took us 3 hrs to get through dinner even with knowing exactly what we wanted ahead of time before the waitress came to the table each time. She forgot our drinks a couple times and our bread, it was delicious though. I don’t think it should be an extra charge but that’s another day. While we got sat before many others upstairs we were seen way later than others and tables left before us even though it was only 2 of us with simple orders, no dessert, never even offered it actually. We were afraid to ask cause it took 30 mins to get even water. The biggest issues we had was the fact that all their prices are wrong, every item on our bill was at least 50-90 cents more than what it was listed for. It’s not about the price it’s about the principle of it, list the item for the real price. This had nothing to do with tax either, a drink was listed for $11 on the menu but the receipt said $11.44 for an example, and we were also charged tax on top of their higher prices. It’s the oddest thing I’ve never experienced before, just be transparent guys jeez! Our entrees were good but not worth the 3 hour wait and mediocre service. Maybe be a while before we return here

Food was excellent. Hubby had the Red Snapper, I had the shrimp. Both excellently prepared. The chef’s potato choice was also excellent. Husband loved the etoufee’, I enjoyed the pecan/brie salad with yummy balsam vinaigrette. Meal was pricey, but portions were generous, and we actually brought enough home, which we ate the next night. It was even more delicious, and nothing leaked oil after heating as some restaurant leftovers do. The dining area was beautifully decorated for Christmas.

This was mid to late afternoon on a sunny day and we sat on the upstairs deck overlooking the downtown square. We had the house wine and fried calamari which was served with bread and a garlic infused butter that was to die for! The service was prompt, the atmosphere friendly and the appetizers were wonderful. This was our 1st visit to Georgetown and starting at Gumbo's was the right choice! I would certainly put this on my list of stops for any future visit!

My husband and I only wanted a bowl of gumbo each, bread, and I ordered a glass of wine. My seafood gumbo was just OK. My husband's chicken and sausage gumbo came out cold and no meat, which he returned. They brought a second bowl with sausage no chicken. Had to ask for bread three times and finally came when our meal was finished. Very disappointing ?.

My hubs and I had an impromptu date night and decided to try Gumbo’s North on the Square. They only had the upstairs open and there was live music playing. We really enjoyed our food which included crusty bread and garlic butter, chicken and sausage gumbo to start and I got the blackened shrimp. My husband got the catfish with dirty rice. The food was good, the service was great and the atmosphere did feel like a local joint where people knew to come and have a drink and relax. We are new to Georgetown and we love the square. Will def come back.

I was hoping the poor ratings were wrong, unfortunately I have to agree with what others have said. This experience was underwhelming and I will never go back. We were greeted by an unenthusiastic hostess when we walked in. The server we seemed inconvenienced by us being there. We had to ask for our drinks from another server. As well as having to get her attention a couple times for other things (to go boxes, bill). It's very mediocre food. Over all I was highly disappointed.

I have not walked out of a restaurant in a very long time. But this evening I did. I have been going to Gumbos since I was in high school and they were in Round Rock. They were a top of the line restaurant then. Today I entered and was seated on the very top level. Asked about being seat below this level and was told they do not seat that area until after 5. It was 10 minutes after five. After about 5 minutes we did get water. Ordered Escargot and margaritas. Waited....nothing. Another gentleman cam and sat down. Ordered a drink and what looked like gumbo. He got both before we ever got a drink. Got up and left. Thus used to be a great place. Now it's just high prices for mediocre food and totally crappy service. I told a manager what happened and he did not seem too concerned that my wife and I were leaving. Completely going down hill!!!!!!

Our meal was great. Our meals had taste, texture, and depth. So much better than most restaurants that heat up canned food from Sysco or US Foods or other suppliers. The service was not perfect, but that is the new normal in this economy. The prices seemed a bit high but again, this is the new normal, $25 for a good restaurant meal.

Too much Rat in the Ratatouille? Closed by order of the Health Department This place had a marginal reputation before. This won't help.

Walk in on a Saturday at 1:30, party of 4. The dining room had three tables sat and they want to put us on a 15 minute wait. We were craving cajun so we waited for 10 min, still we were never called. The place was dead so we just walked out. What a joke.
