We went for the first time today and were very impressed! It was the first time I ever loved every wine I tried at a tasting! It will have to be for special occasions because it a tad pricey (only $28 and $32 for most) since we usually share an entire bottle most nights! Shhhh! We will be enjoying this for Valentine’s Day and buying it again for sure!

I had the opportunity to visit Hico, Texas. Silver Spur Vineyard and Winery and their wine tasting boutique winery tasting room. I always enjoy meeting the wine makers in person. Why I enjoy this and enjoy tasting all over is that I grew up with the vineyard history and worked with the vines at several vineyards growing up in my youth. I had my own micro-vineyard at one time. I did meet with Phillip Lopez and we got to share some similar experiences in the industry. You get to have a simi private Q&A with him in the tasting room at the counter when you're tasting in their wonderful boutique. You can just sit and visit and have a conversation and it can be intimate setting over a glass of wine. I was fortunate the crowd was not that busy at this time of Saturday afternoon. I did a small tasting and with the JV W Double Blend Zinfandel and it was wonderful and tasty and the JW Late Harvest Ripe blackberry, spice, velvet pepper finish. Which is very smooth. I like them both and had to choose. I enjoyed the favor and the taste so much, I did buy a couple of bottles of JW Late Harvest to go. They do have a website at www.silverspurwinery.com I do recommend stopping by and try a wine tasting. Make you you visit the website and look for the open hours and days.

Excellent wine and great conversation with a very knowledgable and very dedicated wine maker/owner ? worth the trip! Don't forget to eat at the Chop House a few doors down afterwards! (Popcorn place in the other direction makes some great spicy popcorn mix too!)

Small producer of wines but they'll impress you with their quality! I'm original from an area an hour away from the Napa Valley and moved to Texas in 2009. It took until 2021 for me to find a winery that produces well crafted Texas wine! Other places I've been to in recent years haven't made the cut. It's as if their wine makers went to college, leaned some chemistry using California grapes but Texas grapes and soil are different. I'm still stuck on my "California Cabs" (btw-never moving back) but the quality and craftsmanship in the wines here deserve a try!

Had a great conversations about their delicious Texas wines and the struggles of harvesting the grapes in the last couple of years. The Wine tasting was an experience and educational by their knowledgeable staff.

My favorite place set in the charming heart of Hico. At my 1st visit, the wine tasting made it impossible to choose a favorite. I'm a red lover but found myself fond of the whites and rose wines. But, you can't go wrong with the Tennat and Tempranillo. I can never leave without a case in hand. The staff is lovely. Silver Spur is officially my favorite winery.
