..I performed there in May of 1985 with long time friend Tom Swatzell, & was a wonderful experience! Got to meet some great Texas music entertainers including Jerry Jeff Walker & several others. Rod Kennedy was a character & I’ve always appreciated the opportunity to perform at such a legendary venue!

I attended from 1992 till 2005. Wonderful music and fun times. Camp Sweetness & Light was where I resided on the ranch. I do miss it.

The Kerrville Folk Festival is an experience of a lifetime I've been going for years and have been lucky enough to move to Kerrville and volunteer at the festival It seems to get better every year and the staff and volunteers are one big family Rock on KFF and hopefully more locals will come out and see what they've been missing

I won passes on the radio to attend this festival, and was beyond amazed at how well organized this event was! This place is so much fun! There's a whole sub-culture of Kerrverts who attend this festival in the Texas Hill Country! There's a party that precedes the Folk Festival where everyone rushes out on the "Land Grab" to find the best camping spots, and sets up camp. Then the Folk Fest lasts a few weeks- and goes on day and night. During the day, they hold workshops, concerts, lectures, etc. on different artists, musicians, and so on. They have facilities all over the festival grounds- with bathrooms, showers, recycling, and trash. The campgrounds are well kept, and there's lots of helpful security and staff to make sure you're having a good time. You can bring your own beer into the festival! Ice can be hard to come by. The nearest store is a few miles away. They occasionally give out food- nachos and grub for hungry attendees! The best part of this festival is that you can camp out and jam with the various musicians who camp in their trailers, who make these song circles, where everyone just gets together and jams! If you go during the right times, you'll be sure to see some local celebrities show up and throw down a jam!

went to the last day of the festival to catch the 6pm show at the kennedy theater outdoor space was comfy with lots of seating wooden benches - everyone brought cushions and also many had their own lawnchairs etc evening was pleasant and temperatures were no longerhjot stage was lit up and we had a wonderful concertwith a 3 girl band who were classically trained but took up folk music - great original music and nice intrumentation Ari Hess opened and boy, was he amazing - the kid can sing !!! Then came the grand dame of folk judy collins and she rocked it with a full set and two encores Then we had a symphony orchestra that just took us to another level with david amram conducting - he had multiple guests who sang with piano or played the flute and then he incorporated some delicious jazz, afro cuban, - it was wild for a few moments... lol Ended with a great guy playing guitar and belting out a wonderful tune and having everyone come up to the front and join in and sing together. Amazing... (same guy who was at the tree earlier discussing old times annd folk music and history and the wild west show) just a delicious friendly fun nice evening recommend the experience to all :-)

I've been the the 'New Folk' show about 4 times and heard jaw-dropping stuff - new artists who submitted CDs and got a chance to perform at Kerrville. However, I have heard more than a few pathetic and semi-pathetic acts there - where I just shook my head and wondered how they got a spot. I've written over 700 songs in 4 years, and I've submitted 4 of my amazing, world-changing songs to them - and not a peep - so it turns out that Kerrville Folk Festival is a fake - a FAKE - they are NOT about folk music, they are NOT about helping new artists get heard, they are NOT about quality - they ARE about making money - and helping producers and publishers make MONEY. You had your chance with me and blew it - BLEW IT - I won't be back.

I experienced the Kerrville Folk Fest for the first time this year, and despite the torrential flooding, a few canceled shows, and my rig getting stuck in the mud - I still had a great time. I can't blame KFF for what Mother Nature did to us over Memorial Weekend. (Lucky for me and my gal pals, Friday's flooding brought Emmylou Harris' show right into the lobby of our hotel for an intimate, unforgettable performance.) This folk fest brings in talented musicians and song writers from all over the country for two-plus weeks, along with headliners like David Crosby and Emmylou Harris, and a TON of resources for said artists. Artists take note: You'll find seminars/workshops, like the songwriter school, ukulele workshop, legal consultation, professional development for teachers, harmonica workshops... For spectators like myself with absolutely no musical talent, there are vendors selling delicious hippie food, jewelry, clothing, massages ... and of course, entertainment. My FAVORITE part of the schedule is catching the New Folk Finalists performances. More than 800 writer-performers apply and only 32 finalists are selected to perform at the festival. Each artists performs about three songs, and with a panel of judges, six winners are announced. There is SO much talent, and I left the festival with a list of new musicians to follow. Camping is the way to go if you want the full experience. After the nightly performances, artists go around and have singalongs and gatherings at different tents/campers. Complete hippie fun. As the website says, "18 days. 100+ performers. Bring a guitar and your tent." Tent I have, talent to play a guitar, I do not ... yet. Things to know: :: Bring your own plastic cup/thermos for water stations, wine, beer, coffee, etc. They don't offer any throw-away cups; so you either have to buy theirs or bring your own. :: Bring rain boots, sandals or shoes you don't mind gettin' icky. Bare feet NOT a good idea due to the nature of the latrines. :: Sunscreen, bug spray, camp chair, and hand fan are highly recommended.
