10/10+ fantastic customer service. I came in a little too close to closing time, and the staff were so friendly and took my order. They made my order fresh and not reheated! When restaurants go the extra mile for their customers, it makes a lot of difference. I will continue to support them and recommend them to anyone looking for a portion of fresh, warm food with a whole lot of customer service ✨.

I eat junk food as if I am on the My 600lb Life show, and the only vegetables I’ve had in the last 10 years are from the Kale Salad at The Cookshack. Omg that kale salad is the best kale salad in the world period. If they had a restaurant closer to north McAllen, I would eat there everyday. Try this place!! It’s a must!

Stopped in for a late lunch and really enjoyed it. The menu is simple to read and they offer their chicken in a variety of ways.The restaurant was very clean and the staff was friendly and inviting from moment we walked in.I went with the chicken sandwich (mild) and picked fries for my side. I really enjoyed my sandwich and the mild sauce didn't have a kick at all. The fries were thin and crispy, which is my favorite. The food all arrived within 5-10 minutes which was fast!My colleagues had the tenders as well as chicken and waffles. They both loved their lunch and the portions were huge.We will definitely be back.

1st time visitor here!Service 10/10 - We were greeted as we walked through the front door. Staff took the time to explain the menu and what was recommended. Table service was pleasant, staff came to the table appropriately and in a timely manner to ask if anything was needed. Table service also included them taking the finished plates away when needed.Atmosphere 10/10 - Awesome vibe, great light fixtures, and appropriate country music playing. (Not too loud either)Food 8.5/10 - Don’t get me wrong, food was delicious and came out quickly. However, my only complaint I had was on the chicken sandwich. I feel as if the dry seasoning wasn’t there for me, maybe I’m too particular, but a fried chicken sandwich with dry seasoning comes off a bit crunchy and sometimes dry. (I would recommend seasoning it with a wet sauce to bring down the crunchy texture) Also - we were presented with a complimentary Kale chicken salad which was to die for. ALSO - another complimentary ice cream sandwich to calm the taste buds down was perfect.Overall, will be coming back!

First time here. Ordered the chicken tenders and waffles and the tenders weren't what I expected. They needed more flavor. The heat factor that have here is awesome tho. Definitely recommend the hot hot selection.
Customer service was great. Chicken was freshly made & very crispy, but the waffles were a bit undercooked in the center. Mac & cheese has a bit of room for improvement, there’s definitely better options out there. The Boujee margarita was very strong and definitely worth the $10.

They messed up our order and put hot sauce on our sandwiches, we had to wait at least 20 minutes for them to "remake" our order (I suspect they just kept the same sandwiches warm) and then the "new" sandwiches were just as hot. My mom is medically sensitive to spicy food and was almost hyperventilating from the spicyness. The Manager's only "solution" was to give us an unseasoned chicken breast. Horrible service.
Frequent customer here. But this time Paid almost $50 for Chicken fingers. Not tenders. Even a small bone came out. Not cool cookshack not cool. Wth happened???

I love this place! The fried chicken is so good! I love the coleslaw on the sandwich! The Mac and cheese has a Smokey flavor to it.

A friend told me to check out this place when it first opened up in McAllen, and I've been a regular ever since. Immediately on entering, there's multiple areas to order and the staff always gets right to you. The bar area and the front counter area both will take your order. The staff has always been very friendly and will even try to convince you to reconsider ordering the AMF level spice on your chicken if you're insane and want to order spice that requires a waiver. There's booth seating and table seating, with paper towels on each table. Lots of TVs playing sports, usually country music playing at a mild volume. I love the spicy chicken sandwich, the regular fries, sweet potato fries and the ribs. The mac n cheese is excellent, and there's beer on tap to enjoy as well. The only thing on this menu that I don't enjoy is the Cole slaw. I feel the acid levels are a little off but pretty much everything else is delicious. You'll see from my photos that the ribs here fall off the bone as soon as you lift them up. That's exactly how I like my ribs. I usually get them with no spice to enjoy the sweet BBQ sauce. The chicken tenders/chicken sandwich is also awesome, and I usually get the medium to Texas Hot spice levels. Highly recommend. You'll be back for more 100%.

Absolutely outstanding chicken tenders. The first bite melts in your mouth. The Texas hot spice level was perfect for me but might be spicy to others. One of the best spicy flavors I've tasted. The waffles are fluffy and taste perfect with the chicken. Both together creates a wonderful savory flavor. Wish they had this up North!
