Downgraded from a 5 star only because they’d run out of the food we traveled there for ?. But we loved everything we ate, anyway! Texas Bucket List (TV show) boasted this place was worth the travel!! Between Huntsville and Corpus in Rockport, we’d left our Gulf vacation (which was fabulous) to head home via Rockport to treat our friends to a crab burger and bread pudding. Our friend is handicapped but she was helped in by us and kind waitstaff up the one wooden stair and into a cushioned upright chair. Waitstaff immediately welcomed our Vietnam veteran friend with a solemn salute and a “welcome home”. Brought tears to my eyes.Drink orders came with a (sad) explanation they were out of several menu items. No worries! Each couple split fish & chips. ENORMOUS sized filets nicely fried in a tasty just perfect crumb mixture. Homemade cocktail sauce and tartar sauce added a treat to the taste! The meals came with coleslaw and the PERFECTLY cooked hush puppy. Neither couple could finish their shared meal so we got to finish and enjoy it later that evening.Hats hats and more hats adorn the ceiling.Come here any time BUT if u want something specific, call ahead to make sure they’ve not run out. Easy parking just near the porch. Thank you, Texas Bucket List!!

Just ok. It seems that all restaurants in the area serving shrimp are pre breading them in panko instead of flour, maybe it’s easier but sure doesn’t taste the same. I told waitress easy on the breading she said they prepare them each morning for the day. The were butterflied and a nice size and reasonably priced compared to others in the surrounding area. Maybe two bites of coleslaw comes in tiny container and Barely got a handful of crinkle fries while my friend’s BLT came with enough fries for two people. She said her sandwich was ok.

Their seasoning the put on the Flounder is fantastic and I think their burgers are the best in town. They run out of items alot but, that's because they are made fresh and popular. My wife lives the Crabby Patty and it's hit or miss if they will have or notWe like Shempy's there food is always good.

You always hear about hole in the wall establishments having the best food. I can honestly say that is true and Shempy’s made me a believer. When in Rockport, check them out but call the day before to get their hours of operation.

Eat Local! That was my goal when coming to Rockport. Shempy’s did not disappoint. The service was great! The food was delicious, fresh tasting. Don’t stop here if you want a nice looking restaurant. This is a “hole in the wall” and you may think that the restaurant matches the food, but NO! Amazing seafood, tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, and crab cakes, with homemade sauce! The food is pricey, but worth it!

Arrived. Sign said open, active diners eating and being served. Door was locked, we were ignored. I don’t understand why you’d be open and lock customers out but here we are.

We live here, and Shempys is our absolute favorite restaurant! Very reasonable prices. Amazing catfish and hamburgers. We go there often, many times taking friends and family. They always love it, too. Yes, they have had trouble getting enough help. But, who hasn't? We do not mind waiting and we always BYOB!

Best crab cake I've ever had, and I've had many all over the country. It was almost enough for 2 servings. Homemade with great seasoning. Hot tator tots and fries. Place was packed for lunch, but we were patient. Worth it. Service was efficient. Quirky little place with lots of hometown character. Thanks to the staff for working so hard during a very busy lunch hour. If you can wait until after 1pm, it was almost empty.

Went to eat with about 6 ppl for dinner. Our poor waitress was stressed because they were short on staff. She stated an hour till we get food, but we got it quickly. They were trying to keep up with orders and felt they were doing the best they could. The burgers were huge and the seafood was yummy! Definitely recommend Shempy's.

We saw this place featured on Texas Bucket List tv show and put it on our own list. While in Rockport over the weekend we had dinner here on a Friday night. Wow sums it up.The seafood combo dinner allows one to taste combine 3 of 4 options on one plate. I chose fried shrimp, fried oysters and a crabby cake. The oysters were tender and creamy as butter. The shrimp were seasoned and cooked perfectly and couldn't taste any fresher. The crabby patty had large chunks of crab meat, moreso than breading as advertised. Paired with the spicy mayo it comes with, this was a terrific taste treat. All this came with a choice of fries or tots and two super fluffy hush puppies. It was more than I could eat without feeling overstuffed. But if you plan to consume any alcohol while dining make sure to get it from the attached liquor store and bring it with you. Shempy's is a BYOB establishment.

Shempy's seems to be loved by the locals and the visitors alike. We enjoyed the dinner because of the great tasting seafood. My hubby had the shrimp and oysters, and I had the blackened flounder with grilled vegetables. Great portions and flavor. We were disappointed that they were out of Key Lime pie but we will be back! The service was friendly.

I had a club sandwich the toasted bread was served. The onion tanglers were warm. There was a group of 11 of us. It took 35 minutes for the first person to get served until the last two people served of which I was one. Neither one of the two waitresses ever apologized for late service. Then had to wait another 15 for my
