I've been here in person and it was good but I recently ordered this from Uber eats today thinking It'd be the same. NOPE! Chicken fired steak was burnt black and steak was like chewing a wallet. Also got the 4 meat plate. No bbq sauce at all? How is this place gonna be a bbq place without bbq sauce? Gave me the wrong side. Idk if they don't care for delivery orders but if that's the case there is no integrity in that. Will not be ordering here again.

Brisket and ribs were very dry. Gave us corn instead of green beans. The side order of fries was about 6 stale fries. Wings were decent though.

As a BBQ joint, this is a journey to yesteryear when "good BBQ" was good enough. In the past 15-20 years, BBQ has gotten so upscale and refined that places like The Green Mesquite are now an afterthought when you want some good BBQ. Where they shine, though, is variety, ambiance, and location. This is one of the few options for BBQ this far south where you can actually eat inside and dine with a large party while watching the game on TV. The food is still good, though I rarely get the BBQ here anymore. Traditional home fare like Chicken Fried Steak still feature here - which is great now that places like Hill's & Threadgill's are no longer an option. The hamburgers here are very good in a classic sense. Nothing fancy about it, just a good, simple burger that will totally sate your appetite but probably not satisfy your weak ego's desire for 's if you eat strictly for the 'Gram. Finally, one of the best kept secrets is their smoked wings. They may have the best wings this side of Bonchon and they really don't toot their horn enough for good they are. Next time you're in the mood for wings, I can't recommend Green Mesquite enough. Not sure if they still do the Sunday special for them, but definitely worth inquiring about. This is a solid 3 star joint, but will gladly give the extra star to offset an unwarranted one star review out there and as a nod to how nice the staff is. Recommend that you patronize (as in "do business there" not "talk to the staff condescendingly") this place if only to ensure it stays around. We've lost too many Austin institutions and I am grateful that The Green Mesquite BBQ is still around.

Chris at the bar served me. Had 10 naked smokey wings that tasted great. Especially for Sunday 85 cent special. Will go back.

We went here to celebrate a birthday and the birthday girl loves TX bbq. They wanted to try a new spot so we came here but it probably wasn't a great idea because we were about to go to Terry Blacks and their bbq is on point. This place is ok. The food isn't bad, it just doesn't stand out. One thing people thought was pretty good was the smoked wings but thats about it. Its a good spot with good service. If you're in the area and want to try the wings I would suggest it.

I'm going to be honest with y'all....the Mac and cheese is the only good thing. I haven't been here in a while, but that is literally the only thing we got that was good. It slaps...hard. The rest of the food is meh.

Good food, kind staff. They serve a pretty mean chicken fried steak!

Out of all the barbeque places in San Marcos, this is not the one I would go to.

Never tried this place even though I've always seen it. Always thought it was like another Bill Miller's or Donn's BBQ, but it turns out The Green Mesquite is way better. Everything is freshly cooked, good portions, friendly staff with a variety of options to eat from the menu. I rate this place a thumbs up. Best little BBQ joint I've had in awhile.

Had a couple of solid recommendations for this place. However, we were a pretty disappointed. Brisket was dry. No seasoning on anything. We tried a bunch, too. Uber driver after we left recommended another place down the street which we will try next time we are in town. Too bad.

This place has gone downhill, used to be super good. Ate lunch there today.....was charged $7.49 for a chopped beef sandwich which was on regular hamburger bun and $3.99 for four onion rings. Mind you, these were frozen onion rings, not even homemade and about as big as a silver dollar. There were a buck each! We asked the server about it, thought for sure something had to be wrong but nope! The other lunch was a pulled pork bbq sandwich, not bad in size but was so dry it had to drenched in bbq sauce just to eat it. It was the special so it came with a side, about 8 edible french fries, the rest were pieces left over from the fry basket that were burnt and not edible. We were asked if we wanted anything else or if we needed a refill on drinks. The servers also look like they don't care about their appearance. One's hair was unkept, another had on athletic shorts and a baseball caps. All in all, my lunch experience here was yucky!

Standard BBQ. Nothing remarkable or horrible about it. However, the waitress added a tip without even mentioning it, as if I wouldn't notice it. I let it slide, cuz I'm trying to be a more positive light ?

This restaurant deserves zero stars. When you order 2lbs of brisket and 1lb is fat. We will never order from or recommend this place to anyone. The best thing is to STAY AWAY!

Horrendous experience. One table got served in 4 different increments. They were the only party of four in the restaurant. I gave up waiting for my togo order. Debacle
