Too bad the review scale maxes out at 5 stars -- this is a jewel of a winery perched on a mountain overlooking the Blue Ridge and Amherst County, producing a remarkable level of wine. The vineyard is a retirement project of Christine and Dennis Vrooman, who started here in 2008 and quickly shot to the top of the Virginia wine world. We have been a dozen times, and every time we go we learn about more examples of people driving up just for a tasting and leaving with a case, a wine club membership, and plans to come back soon. The pinot noir has now won numerous awards, but it's the perfectly balanced, slightly oaked, chardonnay with apple and apricot notes that I fell for. Delightful people. Well worth a trip.

We had an amazing time visiting on a recent Sunday. Highly recommended for delicious wine, amazing views, and friendly people. A few helpful pieces of info:They have a very nice facility with both an indoor tasting room and a deck with chairs and umbrellas. The deck is not covered for rain. They are dog friendly, and we saw dogs both inside and on the deck, so if it is a rainy day, you can bring your dog to sit inside. They offer a charcuterie plate that is very good. Plenty of cheese and meat, plus nuts, dried fruit, crackers, and bread. Plenty for two people to share for a light lunch. 3 people could share for a snack.Wine and flights are very reasonable priced, and very good!I'm excited to visit again and buy some of their wine online!

Went on October 7, 2023 and it was a clear, beautiful fall day. Melinda was working and our was busy but she was extremely attentive and helpful with the wine and telling us history of Ankida. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the gorgeous views and warning sunshine. We all got wine flights and the pilot noir and white blend were my favorites. Go. You will not be disjointed!

This is a drive, there is no question about that. You're going to wonder if you've taken a wrong turn more than one before you get there, but this place is worth the effort! The views are spectacular, the staff is super friendly, and the wine is awesome

We visited Ankida Ridge vineyards during our visit to Virginia last week. After hiking Cole mountain, beautiful view btw, we headed over to Ankida Ridge after reading a review from Food and Wine that rated the winery as one of the 10 best in Virginia. The area is lovely, albeit a bit remote. We opted for the normal tasting (whites and reds) and we loved them all. My favorites were the pinot rose and the pinot. The rose was a surprise for me as I'm typically a 'reds only' guy. Staff was friendly and offered local suggestions for dining (we were staying in roanoke).

A great escape up into the mountains of Amherst to a Winery that doesn't disappoint on selection nor quality of their wine. The views from the Winery itself and further up on the mountain top are incredible. I would recommend an SUV type vehicle to make and enjoy this adventure and pleasure of good times with family and/or friends while enjoying the Ankida experience guided by their friendly and knowledgeable staff who will entertain you with the tasting of wines and interesting history of how Ankida came to be. You know the wine is good when strangers become Friends! I look forward to meeting new friends on my next visit. Enjoy all and Cheers!

Great vineyard with some classic french wines...I specially like their Pinot Noir; a very smooth wine with no tannic after-taste often found in Virginia red wines. My wife enjoyed their Verday selection...a nice light, refreshing wine. What really sold us on this vineyard as a go-to place are the views that can be enjoyed in peaceful repose. We are now a member of their wine club!

You get a genuinely welcoming feeling here. The Pinot Noir varieties are delicious. The Charcuterie board is nice and a walk up the steep quarter-mile to the vines overlooking the mountains is not to be missed. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see the sheep roaming around.

We came up here for Easter and had an absolute joy of a time. The staff was so welcoming that we felt like regulars who’ve been there a thousand times despite it being our first time. Sipping wine in front of phenomenal views just can not be beat! (And cute dogs too)
