Came across Johnny Ray’s by accident since it isn’t super close to home and glad that I did. I ate in-nice people and good music. They have good carry out traffic.I ordered the pork chop dinner that comes with 2 sides and cornbread. The chop was very good-nicely seasoned and beautifully fried. I’d definitely order that again. The greens were good; the yams had a good flavor, but were too sweet for me personally. I also ordered Mac and cheese to try, but when the food came they said it would be out shortly. It never came. I went to the counter for a to go container when I’d finished and mentioned that it never came. I took it with me to go and will have with my leftovers. It wasn’t a deal breaker for a return visit, but it was pretty clear that they forgot. I was disappointed that neither the person taking my order or the one that told me he’d bring the Mac and cheese offered an apology.This was good soul food in a very unexpected location but I recommend. Good food takes time to cook well, so that combined with the volume of carry out orders seemed to drive a bit of a wait. They might want to consider providing something to snack on to those dining in. That’ll help pass the time after you order and grab a table while waiting for your food. Looking forward to trying it again and maybe bringing my family next time.

I was in town for a couple days from Atlanta and wanted "soul food" and this place popped up. The Mac and cheese was sweet, overcooked and not good at allThe green beans were straight from the can. The sticky wings and the cornbread were the best part of the meal. The guy behind the counter was nice though.

First, let me say I am from the Deep South so I know soul food. Johnny Rays is a 10 out of 10 experience.We got the lemon pepper and sticky wings, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, collards and cabbage, and catfish sandwich.Everything was cooked to perfection. The wings and catfish were fried hard and in separate grease. The macaroni and cheese was as good as mama’s!

Johnny Rays restaurant was delicious. Me and my 2 children went to enjoy Easter lunch after service today and we were the first customers of the day. The food was fresh, tasty, and fulfilling. My daughter had their Salmon which was grilled to perfection (you know I had to taste it as well). My son had the fried whiting which was um um good! I had the ribs which was amazing! We also had the sweet potatoes, mac n cheese, collard greens, French fries, & fried okra which were good also. Oh and how can I forget about the BOMB banana pudding! To top it off the customer services was exceptional! The main cook was our server and he was very polite and catered to our needs. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to you if you are looking for good southern eating and hospitality. I will definitely be back and let others know as well. You have a lifetime guest! This place is the truth!! Food was delicious, cooked well, and hot. Service was awesome. The food is cooked to order and so there may be a wait, but worth it. I had the whiting fish and lemon pepper chicken wings. Would definitely visit again.
