We have been going to Virginia Cheese Company since Ashtyn opened it... right in the middle of the pandemic which took real courage and commitment. We have an annual wine and cheese party and prior to VA Cheese, we ordered in cheeses from Murray's, Zingermans, Rogue River, etc. Ashtyn now sources any and all of those cheeses but keeps the cooler stocked with all sorts of cheeses we otherwise never heard about. The sandwiches are made fresh and are delicious if you want to sit down and eat in the friendly, Parisian like setting in Freemason, or you can take it to go to the Pagoda and sit outside. We who live in Norfolk are lucky to have a cheese monger on par with Neal's Yard or Murray's (pre-Kroger takeover) right here in the middle of our little city.

One Saturday afternoon, my husband and I decided to visit the Virginia Cheese Co. Initially, from the outside, the shop seemed closed, but upon entering, we were pleasantly surprised. The quaint and cute interior, along with the friendly staff, immediately won us over. Despite the chairs being flipped for cleaning, we felt welcomed. We found ourselves torn between the various decadent sandwich options on the menu, but a helpful worker guided us through the selection process, offering recommendations and modifications. I opted for the Provolone Amore on La Brioche baguette, while my husband went for The French Quarter. We couldn't resist pairing our sandwiches with some eye-catching and mouth-watering chip flavors - Iberian ham for me, honey sriracha for him. As we waited for our sandwiches, we explored the shop, discovering a variety of local ingredients and foods. When our meals arrived, they were beautifully presented, and the flavors didn't disappoint. Each bite left us eager to return for more culinary adventures. Overall, the Virginia Cheese Co. offers a calm, inviting atmosphere and delicious food. We're already looking forward to our next visit and highly recommend it to everyone looking for a comforting and delightful dining experience.

I have been walking past this charming place almost everyday since I moved into the area over a year ago. It’s on the Elizabeth River Trail and at a great location. I finally stopped in and tried their pepperoni bread, which I didn’t care for, but have since tried their sandwiches which are very tasty. Their selection of cheeses is unmatched and they also have many specialty foods. It’s a great place to hang out and eat inside or out on the sidewalk seating overlooking the historic cobblestone streets of the Freemason district. I definitely will make this a regular stop from now on.

GET READY FOR A HONKER SAMMY. Fantastic place in downtown Norfolk, by the USS Wisconsin. I had the largest Mufulletta in my life and boy I did not eat the rest of the day. Cheeses galore. The vibe is airy and open and it's such a great place to sit down and ponder. I Focaccia is fantastic here along with getting their myriad selection of cheeses.

I BRIElieve in a better cheese shop. I went in trying to cheese the day and could not have been amore with this great location that was not grate. There is a lack of imagination and the sandwiches taste like they were served at a chain restaurant.

Paid $14 for the Brie-ciutto and received a strip of prosciutto on my sandwich that was about the size of my index finger. I understand it’s an expensive ingredient and I wasn’t expecting much but for the price I was incredibly disappointed.
Just had a wonderful experience here with the food and customer service! My boyfriend and I were unsure of what to order and the person at the counter (blond male, early 20s) was happy to help :) made fantastic, honest recommendations. The food was fresh and perfect! We will definitely be coming back!

I gave them a one star, here's why. I ordered a muffaletta. The sandwich was made quickly as I was the only order waiting. I got the sandwich to go, big mistake. When I got to the office , I realized they had served the sandwich cold. For $15.75, I think the sandwich should have been at minimum served on oven warned bread. It was like holding a cold brick because they loaded it up with cheese. This turned up to be the worse muffaletta I have ever eaten. Don't order this sandwich unless you inform them to heat up the bread at least, which is not what a muffaletta is traditionally served on. Horrible sandwich if served cold plus the bread was crumbling apart. I feel like I got ripped off. Bad deal and I'll never eat there again.Nope, it was $15.75. I have the receipt on my phone. Apparently, you folks charged me extra for being served cold. If you offer the sandwich hot, why didn't you inform me rather than serving it cold? Just so you know, no one serves this sandwich cold. I'm pretty sure no one will be pleased to pay $15.75 for a cold sandwich. Just to set the record straight, I did ask to see the bread because I've never heard of a muffaletta served on it. But that didn't mean I wanted it cold. No body served a muffaletta cold. Maybe that's why the neighboring sandwich shop was packed and yours is emptied. I got ripped off!

Cool location, solid selection of cheeses, and fresh food. Only reason this isn’t a 5 star is the sandwich didn’t have a good portion size of the turkey and cheese in relation to the large baguette it came on and they do not accept cash.
