Intimate setting, delicious food, and well-priced wine. A great date night spot and sushi favorite.

Been here a few times before the pandemic and this was one of my favorite sushi spots in Richmond - definitely a cute neighborhood restaurant. The sushi was fresh, delicious, and inexpensive. I was kinda sad that they got rid of the special combination menu due to COVID. My cousin and I ended up getting the Party Tray, which included a rainbow roll and 6 chef-selected rolls. It was definitely enough food for the two of us, but we kinda felt cheated with the cucumber roll and avocado roll. As Akida is small business, I understand their decision to remove the special combo, but I hope one day in the future they'll bring it back because that was one of the reasons why I kept coming back. We also ordered the fried dumplings - tasty, but I wish it was pan-fried more. Our food also came with miso soup! We came here for dinner on Monday around 6:30 PM. Besides us, there was only 1-2 other tables occupied. Service was great, since the waiter was very friendly and checked on us multiple times. Plenty of street parking available!

Great sushi and friendly staff. Not big, so only a few tables. Very attentive. Food was fresh and delicious ? They could easily accommodate leaving out an ingredient due to allergy. Recommend!

M.K. I am sorry if you feel misled, but something has happened to the quality of the sushi at Akida. My husband and have been weekly visitors of Akida for 3+ years because the sushi was that good. The service has always been amazing as well and they were above and beyond during covid. We worry that management has changed post-covid, now that the restaurant is fully open again. The last few weeks our miso soup was missing tofu/seaweed, the caviar has looked slimy, the tempura shrimp was rubbery and last week my tuna looked like beef instead of tuna. Initially, we chalked it off as it being a transition period but decided after last week to try another place. Fighting Fish has premium sushi by the way. It makes us very sad, because the women we usually see at Akida are another reason that we've been so loyal. They feel like family--my husband proposed to me there! It makes me very sad, but we can't risk getting ill over bad sushi. If the management that we like come back, then we'll be there in a heartbeat.

The restaurant is very small but has a very nice vibe to it. The alcoholic drink menu is very small, about 5 beers and some sake only, however I did not ask if they do mixed drinks. The sushi menu is fairly big, a lot of specialty options to choose from! The sushi is fresh and very good. Would highly recommend.

Service and atmosphere were excellent! The server with the purple hair was super nice and hospitable and so was the rest of the staff. However, not sure how they received top ratings for sushi. I've had better sushi from a grocery store.

Is the sushi so bad in Richmond that this place ranks up high? The menu was bad. The service was bad. The fish was awful. Steered very wrong by Yelp! on this one.

Updated: stomach feeling sick after an hour. Went to bathroom with bad diarrhea right away. Two of us both feeling stomach discomfort, probably fish is not fresh. Came for lunch on a Monday, it was quiet only two tables, the space is small only couple tables for sit down dining. There's lunch special combo at very decent price. The food tho is not as expected. Two of us shared the combo 9 with comes with 22pieces or sashimi served with rice. Not any premium fish, instead there are tuna, salmon, squid, octopus, mackerel, shrimp, red clam and crab stick. Not anything special for this price. The double spicy roll and Robinson roll are decent. If you are sushi lover, I do not recommend this place, if you want a quick bite at a cheap price to take advantage of their lunch special, then this place is just fine

Wonderful (semi-) hidden Museum District gem - delicious, inexpensive sushi; fast, polite service, and cozy atmosphere. I'm never disappointed when I take friends and family here.

The shumai were delicate and delicious. The sashimi was delicious as well. I recommend!

The best restaurant in Richmond hands down. I am always happy with my meal. The employees are kind, attentive and they are always smiling when they see me and my dog outside when we pick up. Pick up some amazing sushi and enjoy it on the hill at the vmfa!

Great, intimate neighborhood spot for high quality sushi. This place is tiny, but the sushi is really delicious and has always been authentic, high-quality and consistent. The seaweed salad is always a go-to for me, and then we typically get some nigiri with a few rolls. Nothing has ever been bad and I feel lucky to have this place in the neighborhood. Fair prices for the quality.
