I'm so pleased we another black own restaurant in the metro Richmond area. this restaurant has a great ambiance and the serv is amazing. This food is great as well. You definitely have to try this new restaurant. The menu is diff which makes it stand out as well. I love the diverse atmosphere they display. The owner and staff ia so welcoming from entry. The staff has a smile on their face while providing top notch service. I will show my face more often. Looking forward wine down Wednesday, Happy hour and first Friday events. Congratulations. Keep up the good work!

Decided to try The Hive out for brunch this past Sunday. There was myself and another guest sitting at the bar. No one else in the restaurant.I was told I could not order the shrimp and grits(what I was craving), so I went with the salmon crab cakes. Judging by the prices on the menu one would expect well played food with amazing flavors. The plate that was placed in front of me an HOUR LATER was the worst food presentation I have ever seen in my life. Not only was the presentation poor, but the eggs were cold, potatoes non existent, and the salmon crab cakes were disgusting. On top of all of this, there was an AUTOMATIC 20% GRATUITY added to my bill. I could not tip accordingly. Needless to say I WILL NOT be returning.Do yourself a favor and DO NOT waste your hard earned money on over priced food. There are much better restaurants in Richmond who will charge you half the price and make far superior food, and give you the service you deserve.Very disappointed with The Hive Bar and Grill

Per my mom: The excitement we had in visiting The Hive came to a complete stop when we entered the building. Birthday plans were made to celebrate a 50th birthday. The birthday girl decided a month in advance that we would have dinner at The Hive. We shared the IG page, reviewed the pictures and menu, based on that alone we couldn't wait to visit. Unfortunately, looks were deceiving! It took hours for our food to arrive and we all ordered at the same time and each dish came out individually with huge gaps of time passing in between. We couldn't eat together because each one of our dishes was getting cold waiting on the others. The drinks were watered down, the shrimp and grits were not authentic shrimp and grits but had their own spin on the them. The shrimp were undercooked and whiter than the grits with no seasoning. I ordered the Cajun Chicken Pasta and added shrimp. My entree was served under room temperature (but it was made fresh per owner) the pasta did not have the chicken in it, the shrimp were just like shrimp cocktail. I asked if the chicken was included in the Cajun Chicken Pasta the waiter confirmed with the cook that it was, but yet, there was NO chicken. Later, a bowl of chicken was brought to me to add to my pasta. Unfortunately, the chicken was grilled on the outside but not cooked all the way. The shrimp that was an extra charge to add to my pasta but it was served cold, unseasoned on top of my Cajun Non-Chicken Pasta. The next entree was the marinated ribeye. The cut of steak was questionable. Was it a ribeye and was it marinated? This took over an hour and it was not marinated as it could not be cut with the steak knife and it was not cooked as ordered (medium) it was more rare. Fries were served with the unidentified steak as they were out of baked potatoes. The steak caused sickness that evening that included vomiting and upset stomach. When my friend tasted the steak she immediately knew something was wrong. The other guest ordered the same pasta I ordered and her dish was very presentable. The pasta included grilled chicken and shrimp, totally different from mine but yet we ordered the exact same meal at the exact same time and her meal came out an hour later (it was served cold). I showed the 2 dishes to the owner to ask "how could the same meals be cooked so differently, no response" Others still waiting for their meal, the birthday girl had to get her meal to go and the others canceled their orders. The owner came over and I tried to explain the issues. She immediately said she would take it off my check along with one of my drinks. Well, that was not the my goal, my goal was to explain in hopes of her listening in order to improve the process in the future. She blocked everything we said. As a business owner it is a good practice to listen to your customers, not just the praise but the constructive feedback as well. She would have rather taken the entree off of my ticket only to avoid listening to valuable feedback. Even as a family business it would be also a good practice to not allow children to run around in the restaurant during business hours, and do not ignore your customers while sitting next to them as the owner could hear us discussing the menu with questions. Yes, the owner sat next to us as we all discussed the menu. She looked over at us and listened to us but never acknowledged us or asked if she could answer our questions. I will end my comments here but myself and my friends and I will never visit again or make a good recommendation. Just a an additional note: Dinner was at 6pm, and we were not advised of the items that were not available until we attempted to order them. Sometimes I give a second chance to businesses as things happen beyond our control but the attitude of the owner/manager alone is a no for all of us. Best of luck to the server because he was great considering the poor conditions he was working in. Did I mention he was also the bartender?

Came here for my birthday. Based on the videos posted on Instagram, the establishment looked much bigger than it is. Which is why I thought my party of 10 could be seated comfortably. We were sitting shoulder to shoulder. The waiter was nice enough but he was working as the waiter as well as the bartender on a Saturday evening. We were rushed to place our entree orders, but our orders came out 1 at a time, 10-15 minutes apart. Needless to say, we did not eat together and the last person to get his meal, asked to cancel his order because everyone was finished eating. The owner never came over to address the issue or even ask if we were ok. She was present in the restaurant because she made a point of coming to our table to ask if we had any questions about the menu when she overheard us discussing that the menu seems to change from time to time.Needless to say, I will never return to this establishment.

It took 2 hours to receive our food. I finally received my entree only to be told my sides were no longer available. We ultimately got our food to go. I had to wait another 20 mins for another side. The restaurant has the potential of being great, but they have to do better.1 positive-the waitress was really nice

We went for the first time during black restaurant week. The service was outstanding, the owner was very attentive and checked on us often. We ordered the hot honey wings and they were perfectly crispy while still being saucy. The Peruvian chicken was 10/10– very juicy and flavorful. Mac and cheese was delicious also. Our only complaint is that the chefs catch was catfish that day and the price on the menu was marked varies and the varied price was $42 for Catfish! That was the most expensive catfish I’ve ever seen and while I typically respect prices that was significantly overpriced. We asked about this after we had already paid and looked at the bill a little late and they said no matter what the catch is the price for it was $42. This was shocking and not accurate on the menu.. the owner seemed receptive to our feedback. We plan to return

We went to The Hive for the first time tonight. The atmosphere was fun and cozy. Marvin, our server, was friendly, funny, and energetic. I’d go back just to see Marvin again! My partner and I had tequila pineapple cocktails, as well as a burger and a chicken sandwich. The drinks were dangerously delicious, and the food was so tasty. I finished my burger, and still had to sneak bites of my partner’s chicken sandwich. We will definitely be coming back!

We went here for the first time today after hearing about it through Richmond Black Restaurant week. What a great experience! The vibes are super chill (great music and movies playing) and Marvin was so kind and welcoming! The food itself was delicious. I got the fried chicken sandwich and it was HUGE, hot, and crispy -- just what you want! Definitely recommend and we will for sure be back. They have only been open a month so check them out and support a great local business!

Fantastic!!!! I had the pasta dish. I also have enough for a second meal. Sauce was made from scratch and pasta was perfectly cooked with right amount of sauce and meat. The staff is friendly, music is playing but not so loud that you can't have a conversation. I'll be back for certain even if it's for carry out. Very good!
