I finally stopped in here for a sandwich and instantly knew it would be good (I recently moved here from north jersey where they know a thing or 2 about good delis). There was a long line but it moved very quickly. (In my opinion a long line is a sign the place is good). The smell of a real authentic Italian style deli caught my attention right away after walking through the door. I got a large ham, salami and provolone which was INCREDIBLE. The bread, the meat, the toppings were all fresh. I walked out with a great sandwich, a bag of chips and a soda for about $15. Will definitely be back soon.

Gills has always been a must go too, been going there since I was a young child so over 40 years. It's changed , and not for the better, over stuffed with meat so much it gags you. Cabbage sliced so thin u would think it's lettuce. Bread soggy just after a 45 min drive. It's sad... it's so disappointing, why would they change something so great! It's horrible. I miss my old gills!!

This is not the Gills I grew up with....Sad..... I understand there are new owners now? Won't be long if they keep serving these Jerseys Mikes reject grinders. Everything is off, cabbage is not sweet anymore, the mystery meat that was supposed to be turkey was piled high, which is great cuz my dogs were hungry. Cheese is not the same, bread looks the same, but don't be deceived, it taste bland and was somehow soggy even with the grinder being dry..... This is an impressive feat and I'm sure will be on an episode of how it's made in the near future. I use to be willing to go on 2 hour one way drives to grab one of these grinders, no more.

old school sub shop, lots of counter people, thick, heavy subs, hot and cold, not expensive. They bake their rolls and make pizza to go. worth finding.

Decided to give it another go as this was my first love of a sandwich. The staff were absolutely phenomenal, they were friendly with warm smiles across the counter from start to finish and as usual in the middle of a chaotic entryway, the staff was diligent, efficient and polite while greeting everyone at the door. I can't tell why but it might because it was the old hats? The interior has changed since the first time I entered the deli and true to a hometown feel it should never change. From the paint on the walls bright yellow to the floor the interior is something you'd find in a kitchen from the early 90's with its wainscoting and checkered floor. Hopefully they will stay true to their roots! On to the sandwich: The Hot Italian The bread: obviously fresh which is a requirement, but what makes it so great is the light fluffy texture it gives when you first bite into it without weighing you down by some gaudy huge bite of nothing but dough, it's thin and baked to what a deli roll should be. The veggies: don't mess around, get everything! Everything from the banana peppers to the shredded cabbage have a nice cold textured bite to make your mouth sing you only get from cold veggies. The meat: each bite was perfectly folded with each slice of meat deliciously stacked to perfection as to not overpower one meat over the other. Truly a master of its craft when it comes down to EVERY. SINGLE. Sandwich will be the exact same way. The attention to detail these ladies have when it comes to stacking each monstrous sandwich perfectly without it falling over itself is impressive to say the least. Still the best cold cut sandwich you're going to get in Rutland. Period.

Been coming here for many many years, quality is always exceptional and never misses a beat. Food has always been priced fair and accordingly. Best Grinders/Subs in Vermont by far!!!

I was 2 when I had my first Gill’s grinder, I am now 55. My family and I have been coming to Gill’s for over 50 years, and our kids love it too. When I lived in California, I’d crave Gill’s so much I had to have a grinder multiple days in a row while I was on vacation, back visiting family.

The hot meats , hands down is the best! I have been away from town for a while, I heard that Gills had sold.... Thankfully I am here to say the food and service is still amazing!
