Lulu Island Winery 16880 Westminster Hwy, Richmond Wineries • $$

“This Winery is a cut above any Winery that I've been to in Canada, including Niagara region. A good selection of vintages, and the tasting room allows you to taste a selection of different wines. Everything is sourced locally for the charcuterie board and even the fruit wines!! My favourite was the raspberry wine, and I normally don't like fruit wines as they tend to be very sweet. Other favourites were 2019 Meritage and 2017 Muscat. This was a sitted tasting and the portions were very generous. 5* plus plus plus!!”

Missing Chopsticks 13880 Wireless Way #130, Richmond French • $$$$

“Missing Chopsticks is definitely a hidden gem, especially since it’s located in a business park. Inside is an intimate space with a large open kitchen. Watching the chefs cook the food with evident care was a fun touch. There’s only a couple tables on the ground floor, so you can really focus on the food and the people you’re with. The decor is modern - lots of black with white marble and gold notes. The lights look like chopsticks, which is a charming touch. The food was incredible. The kanpachi tartlet was one of the highlights for me. I’ve never had kanpachi but it paired beautifully with the shiso and pearl-shaped cucumber. The scallops were light and bright. The pate was the best I’ve had, and I like pate so I’ve tried a lot of it. The pasta with the sea cucumber is unique and well balanced with the tomato paste. The Char Siu steak and truffle potatoes are gorgeous. It’s been a while since I’ve had real truffles and I love how simply they were served. Pairing Char Siu flavours with beef is inspired. The chocolate mousse and tangerine was the perfect “not too sweet” dessert.Service is very attentive without being overbearing. The owner is also very friendly and clearly genuinely cares about patrons having a great meal. One thing to note is that the portions aren’t tasting sized. The first two courses were, the rest are appetizer sized except for the main, which is entree sized. Next time, I’ll book the 5:30 time slot and skip lunch so I can thoroughly enjoy each course without worrying about being too full.I’m also excited to try the late night menu at some point.”

“It was a pleasant surprise finding this cafe in Richmond. Small cafe consisting 2 tables, but looked nicely decorated inside.I stopped by to get Brown sugar latte in 12oz ($6.25). Latte art was super adorable. My drink wasn’t too sweet, but fresh and frothy like ones from other coffee chains. I’ll give minus 1 star as drink wasn’t filled to the rim. The Chef's Playground Eatery 12420 No 1 Rd #170, Richmond Comfort Food • $$

“All I can say is, WOW! This place didn’t disappoint. From the outside, it doesn’t look like anything special, but they did a great job with the space inside. With the size of the space, and the quality of the food, I feel like we won the lottery by getting a table. The food, let’s talk about the food. I had the Chicken and Waffles Benedict, the flavors, the presentation, everything was spot on! My son had the Brisket Bennie, it’s now one of his favorite dishes ever. My wife had the mushroom avocado Bennie. We’ve been to many restaurants, some that are much more upscale, but there aren’t many that can match the quality of food and service of The Chef’s Playground. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and give it a try!”

Everything is so good that makes me feel home. But there is one particular thing they make there that tastes even better than any of its kind I ever tried even in Brazil: the brigadeiro! They make them soft, light and not overpoweringly sweet, just the perfect recipe that you won't find anywhere else. “Starbucks at Richlea Square Shopping Centre in Richmond, BC, is my go-to caffeine pitstop when I'm in hustle mode. This spot is my secret weapon for beating the crowds while on the move. The real MVP here is the speed of service. The baristas hustle to get your order pronto, making it the perfect place for those days when time is of the essence. Whether I'm grabbing a classic brew or diving into one of their specialty concoctions, the efficiency at this Starbucks is next level. What elevates the experience even more is the super nice crew. The employees here are not just quick; they're friendly and welcoming. Their positive vibes add a little extra boost to my day, turning a quick coffee run into a genuinely pleasant experience. The location is strategic too. Tucked into Richlea Square Shopping Centre, it's a convenient pitstop for a quick fix without detouring from your busy day. The setup is cozy enough to catch a breather, but the real magic is in the swift service and the warm smiles that get you in and out without sacrificing the quality of your brew. Sure, it might lack the indie coffee shop charm, but when you're in need of a reliable and rapid caffeine hit, Starbucks at Richlea Square is the move. It's become my trusty sidekick for those "on the go" days when beating the crowd is the name of the game, all while enjoying the friendly vibes from the awesome staff.”

“I have been going to the White Spot since the 70's and consider myself a good customer, but the prices fir for a meal are just too expensive. The Nat Bailey breakfast with coffee and a tip is $25. I can buy a dozen premium free range eggs at the supermarket for $6. The Double Double Triple O burger is $21.50. Add a drink and a tip you are over $30 for a hamburger. The prices are not fairly priced in my opinion. Way too high.”

Fine Dining

“In the intimate confines of Chef Ray and his wife Christine's culinary haven, there exists a sanctuary of unparalleled mastery—a realm where every morsel bears the weight of cherished tradition and whispers of the passing seasons. Nestled within their cozy kitchen, with only two tables—one a sushi bar, the other a cozy dining spot—awaits a transcendent journey, a bastion of gastronomic enlightenment amidst the clamor of the outside world. As I stepped into this welcoming space, I was greeted not only by the tantalizing aromas wafting from the kitchen but also by the warm embrace of Chef Ray and Christine. Their genuine hospitality, steeped in humility and passion, set the stage for an unforgettable culinary experience. Each dish that graced the table was not just a culinary creation but a labor of love—a testament to Chef Ray and Christine's unwavering dedication to their craft. From the delicate slices of sashimi, shimmering like jewels on the sushi bar, to the simmering broth infused with the essence of the forest, every bite transported me to a realm of pure bliss—a testament to the soulful essence of Japanese cuisine.Yet it was not only the exquisite taste and presentation that captivated me; it was the underlying philosophy imbued into each dish. In the meticulous selection of ingredients and the artful arrangement on the plate, I glimpsed the ancient wisdom of balance and harmony—a reflection of Chef Ray and Christine's deep respect for nature and tradition. Through the symphony of flavors and textures, I felt a profound connection to the fleeting beauty of life—a reminder to savor each moment with gratitude and mindfulness. As I savored the final course—a sublime fusion of seasonal fruits and delicate pastries—I felt a sense of gratitude welling up within me. Gratitude for Chef Ray and Christine, whose culinary prowess had elevated simple ingredients into works of art. Gratitude for the cozy ambiance and heartfelt hospitality that made me feel like a cherished guest in their home. And above all, gratitude for the opportunity to partake in this intimate culinary journey—a testament to the transformative power of food to nourish not only the body but the spirit as well.In the tranquil aftermath of the meal, as I bid farewell to Chef Ray and Christine and stepped back into the bustling streets outside, I carried with me a sense of profound contentment. For in that fleeting moment of culinary communion, I had not only tasted the flavors of Japan; I had experienced the essence of life itself—a reminder that true fulfillment lies in the simple joys of shared moments, lovingly crafted with care and passion.Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly too!”

“The sushi at Tsukiji, while decent, did not quite live up to the standards set by other Japanese sushi houses I've visited. The flavors were somewhat lacking in depth, and the freshness of the ingredients was not as pronounced as I had hoped. The selection was adequate, but it didn't offer the wow factor that I was looking for in a sushi dining experience. The service at Tsukiji was average, neither exceptionally good nor bad. The staff were polite and attentive, but there wasn't a sense of warmth or personalized attention that can elevate a dining experience from ordinary to special. The efficiency of the service was commendable, but it lacked the personal touch that can make a restaurant stand out.Overall, I would rate my experience at Tsukiji Japanese Restaurant as a 5 out of 10. While it provides a satisfactory dining experience, it doesn't quite hit the mark in terms of the exceptional food quality and service that I seek in a Japanese sushi restaurant. It's a decent option for a casual meal, but it may not satisfy those looking for an authentic and outstanding sushi experience.”

Kitcho Izakaya 8788 McKim Way #1180, Richmond Japanese • $$$$

“Up close and personal??Been to the old location a couple of times a lifetime ago but first time to this new location. It is located on the ground floor on the corner of Garden City and McKim Way. There is a parkade at the back and paid street parking along the street (if you are somewhat lazy like me after a long day, it’s $3/hr right out front lol). The inside is greeted with a fish tank of koi fishes, bar and sushi bar along with the kitchen to the right and tables to the left as you walk in. A small but comfortably spaced out dining atmosphere.Upon arrival and told over an hour wait but sushi bar is available. Opted out at first but my friend didn’t mind the UP CLOSE and personal experience so sushi bar it was. Here were the food I ordered;1. Unagi tamago. Decently okay, nice little appetizer to begin the meal with. Usually if just tamago, I prefer it at the end as almost like a dessert.2. Tako wasabi. Nice texture but lack the wasabi taste (actually I can barely taste the wasabi).3. Soft shell crab. Very nicely done and the crab was of good size plus came with a nice fresh salad!4. Oyster motoyaki. Nicely cooked and tasty. Finally a place understands how to cook a straight to the point good motoyaki.5. Foie gras toast. The foie gras was seared nicely but the toast was over toasted, the sauce was too much and overpowered the beautiful buttery taste of the foie gras.6. Kimchi mentaiko yaki udon. Added the kimchi sauce while pan frying it, good! Didn’t add the masago too early good! Ingredients were generous and didn’t over cooked, good! BUT cooked the kimchi cabbage together, resulting in nothing but warm sour cabbage, not good!7. Deluxe sashimi added Hokkaido uni for $58 extra. Everything was fresh and tasty. Bite size as I preferred them (some of you who preferred over sizes then you will be disappointed lol). But I am bit disappointed with the selection for $65. The uni was fresh but $58 for 9pcs whereas the each of the uni nigiri has 3pcs in them for $16. The uni nigiris are perhaps a better deal than the uni sashimi?!?8. Engawa nigiris. Lightly torched and a nice light sauce, very tasty.9. O-toro, kinmedai, shima aji, chopped scallop nigiris. Everything was fresh and tasty but wish the O-toro nigiris were just a tad bit more generous in portion especially for the price. This is a nice little place with a warm and cozy vibe. They do have a selection of creative dishes that most likely you don’t find at other places, but the price tag is a bit higher here than your average Japanese restaurant. I assume the goal is quality over quantity. The food was fresh and of good quality, no doubt about that. All the sushis were bite size just the way I liked them but like I said earlier on if you are those who prefer bigger portions, this may not be for you. I would put this place on an option to repeat if I am in the neighbourhood but for the same price, there are similar or better options throughout the lower mainland.Overall the service was friendly and attentive, but I did wish I got a table instead of the sushi bar because there was an empty table throughout the duration of my time there. Nevertheless, up close and personal once awhile is okay at long as good food and good company.”

“Best Izakaya type restaurant hands down in Richmond.Must visit when in Richmond!Parking and LocationVery easy to find on No.3 Road. The parking is plentiful with the parking lot directly in front and back of the mall.AtmosphereExtremely great decor that is of a typical Izakaya eatery in Japan. Reminds me of Tokyo and some other in Japan. There is also a big screen TV for those who wants to watch sports. There are a few rooms for more private spaces but floor space is plenty.FoodThe food is excellent! From the uni sushi to sashimi, to the robata of beef tongue and chicken knee, everything taste excellent. There is a wide variety of choice in sake, both hot and cold. The beer is great, especially the Okinawan draft beer, which has a clean taste and goes down quite easy.ServiceThe best if all is the service. The owners, Glenda and Spencer, may also join you for a quick drink! Their hospitality is the best of the overall experience. It reminds I me of Izakaya places in Japan where the owner joins you in chatter and drink. “Updated review from previous 1 star from poor customer experience as I wasn't able to order.Murat from the Richmond location was very helpful, apologized for the inconvenience of the website issues and nobody answering the phone. He offered me 2 free mediums of my choice, which is what I was originally trying to order. Thank you very much for offering this so I could try your pizza.I was happy with my pizzas which were garlic chicken and veggie. Their pizza isn't like others I've tried and it's much different from a "traditional" kind of pizza like Richmond No5 or Roundtable. The crust was very different, but good. Oh and it was good cold leftover the next morning too.It was really good pizza, but if you're expecting something like Richmond No5 or Roundtable you'll probably be disappointed because it's just not really the same style of pizza.I'd say it's somewhere in between pizza hut and Richmond No5 in terms of quality and tastiness.I've tried most of the pizza places in Richmond and I would probably rate them like Richmond No5/Roundtable, Uncle Fatih, Dominos, Pizza Hut, Fresh Slice, Yummy Slice, Pizza Pizza, Fusion Feast in that order. They all offer quite different crust experience though. It's good pizza though and I will likely order here again. Thanks Murat for the excellent customer service experience!”

The waitress wanted us to order our meals before sitting down. Above the cashier is a screen filled with sets. There were chicken, beef and unagi sets. Sets included a bowl of rice, soup and side dishes. I chose the chicken and my wife chose the unagi. We didn't have to pay for our order but was directed to an empty table. It was a pretty busy place. With less than 10 tables, this place was buzzing until closing time. When our sets came, we were impressed with the tray. Everything neatly organized and appetizing. We couldn't wait to dig in. The taste was just right. My chicken teriyaki was delicious, along with miso soup, salad with peanut dressing, a piece of Daikon and agadeshi tofu. Only improvement I see is that the waitress can refrain from speaking mandarin to customers who think this place is Japanese. They also have a frequent eaters' club for you to collect stamps.”

LEVEL V BAKERY 39 Kingsway, Vancouver Bakery • $

“Level V is partnered with and shares a cafe space with Whisk Matcha, and from the perspective of a customer visiting the cafe, they basically function as one business since you order everything from the same counter. I have left a detailed review of the whole cafe on the location entry for Whisk, so here I'll just go over what the bakery offers. I am working my way through their offerings and think I've tried a pretty representative sample of what they serve, but there's always a wide selection available at the cafe and they're always whipping up new things, so I think I'd have to be eating their stuff every day if I really wanted to be able to try everything!I think that the objective best thing you can get here are either cookies OR come after they open and try a bun. Any bun. They are always fresh in the morning, and the slightly sweet yeast dough is so soft and tender. They rotate through various sweet and savoury fillings. The ube mochi bun that I think is fixed in the rotation is very good; one of my favourite seasonal offerings was the salted "yolk" bun, where the vegan salted yolk filling was actually made from squash. I like that they have some veganized versions of common Asian pastries that usually contain meat so that I can try these flavours. Most of the meat substitutes are not processed imitation products but creative culinary replacements. Even if you eat meat, if you have an open mind, I would still recommend these savoury buns if you want to try something different. The cookies are similarly very soft, not too sweet. These hold up their freshness better throughout the day so you don't have to come right at opening to enjoy them at their peak (the buns are also great at any time of day, but I do notice a difference between when they're just a few hours out of the oven vs later in the afternoon). They have staple flavours and rotating seasonals which are all interesting flavours (the staple matcha mochi cookie is heavenly). They have a few twice-baked croissants: matcha and almond. If you like really buttery, gooey croissants, these might not be for you, because they're a little crunchier than typical croissants and don't have that buttery sheen. I personally don't miss the butteriness and prefer this version, which doesn't leave me feeling like my face is oily after eating it. They're almost closer to a bread dough than pastry. The matcha version has a powerful dusting of matcha and a delicious matcha custard inside. They sell whole cakes, which can be preordered from their website or grabbed as a walk-in (they have a few available for walk-ins every day), and usually there will be something available by the slice. I tried a slice of pistachio cake and really enjoyed the moist crumb and smooth "buttercream" frosting. The cake was a little dense but I didn't mind it at all. I definitely want to try more of their cake after trying this one. They have various other desserts that come and go: lots of cupcakes in fun flavours, macarons, sometimes vegan cheesecake, sometimes bars, sometimes tiramisu. I haven't been disappointed with anything so far. Some are gluten-free. The desserts don't always taste exactly like their non-vegan or non-GF counterparts, but are always delicious in their own way.”

“Run don't walk to this rice roll shop because it is the best rice rolls I have ever had hands down!! This stand is located inside the Richmond Public Market amongst other also great food stalls. I buy their rice rolls almost every weekend and yet every single time, I am amazed on how they make their rice rolls so thin and silky. You can choose to get your rice rolls scraped style (toppings mostly on top) or wrap style (toppings wrapped inside). The sauce and the chili oil (must!!) complements the rice rolls so well by sticking to every single crevice. The rice rolls are so good that I am even gonna ignore the fact that their congee was not my favorite. It is too watery for my taste and lacks flavor. They also offer varieties of soy milk based drinks that are yummy! Tip: They do get quite busy after 11 am in the weekends so I recommend calling in before you are planning to come so it will be ready by the time you get there and buy food from all the other vendors.”

“Whenever we have a potluck in our warehouse this is the place I go to to get our food. For $54 you get 4 large orders which is good for 5 to 8 persons which is the best value for your money. Take note they are a cash only and they do not accept debit or credit cards. Servings are really bigger compared to other stalls in the food court. The drive going here took us almost 30 minutes but it is worth it because of the food you are gettng which is also very good tasting and very affordable. This is a must visit whenever you are in Richmond public market. I highly recommend them for you to come try them out. I love this place.”

Tip added to bill do to size of party but they made sure we were all aware so no problem with that.

“Favorite traditional sushi place in Richmond and value for dollar showcases it sheds the fancy nameplate for a very subdued and quality driven experience. The assorted sushi set at $38 (2024) showcases local and Japanese imported fish, fresh and well portioned for each piece to be eaten in one bite, non lock-jawing bite. The saba battera is a little different than other restaurants since it showcases much more redness and has a lot more fish flavor. Some may be a little overwhelmed so try if you truly like Saba :), but dive in if you love it.Other standouts are the ankimo and tako wasabi and their uni tasted really good too (not sandy nor bitter).I really enjoy the intimacy in which it feels to dine here. “Our South Arm United Church men’s group meets and eats at the Richmond Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant because it’s excellent service, value and quality. Also we usually have our extended family meals there because of the atmosphere, child friendly, plenty of free parking and all inclusive meals. ??Parking: Excellent parking available free and beside entrance.Kid-friendliness: Our family including my 1 1/2 year old granddaughter enjoy very much our Richmond Old Spaghetti Factory. The service, food and atmosphere are very family friendly especially the price.”

“Amazing location with a great view of the wharf. Outdoor patio was very big and clean. Service staff were very good. The Nepresso Martini was awesome and fresh oysters were good.
